Ryan: Hey everybody. Ryan here at etrailer.com. Today, on our 2020 Ford Ranger, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Curt T connector vehicle wiring harness with the seven way connector. The seven way is not only going to provide our trailer with the basic and necessary lighting functions, but it's also going to give it a couple more, one of them being the auxiliary 12 volt power output, and that's going to charge your batteries that you might have on your trailers as you're going down the road and it's also going to put out an electric brake signal. That way if you have a brake controller, you can apply the trailer brakes and bring you to a safe and predictable stop. And if you are getting this to be able to use a brake controller, the one that I really like is called the Curt Echo. It's going to be completely wireless. You'd simply just plug it in and it's going to allow you to control everything using an app on your phone. This is going to supply our trailer with plenty of power to not only aluminate those traditional style incandescent bulbs, but also newer LEDs.So ultimately, this isn't going to just keep you legal.
It's also going to put your mind at ease knowing that all your lights are working and other motorists know your intentions as you're pulling your trailer down the road. The cab is going to be spring loaded to help keep out any moisture or debris whenever you're not using it. It's also going to have a little catch here which will really help hold your plug in place, preventing it from getting accidentally pulled out. I do recommend from time to time, even though this is spring loaded, to put some dielectric grease on the terminals inside just to help keep them in good shape. Now, the kit does not come included with any brackets, but if you're looking to mount it up like this or even in a different way, there's plenty of different types available here at each trailer. Now, as far as the installation goes, it more or less just plugs in and you'll have one screw that you need to use to secure a ground wire. It shouldn't take you hardly anytime at all. I have no problem doing it at home.
Speaking of which, let's go ahead and do that together now.To begin our installation, we're going to be here at the back of the truck and we're going to be working on the driver's side frame rail. So right here is the factory plug that our new trailer wiring's going to tap into. So we'll need to get it disconnected, to give you a little more room to work. If you want, you can always kind of just grab the plug and kind of pull it outward, separate it from the frame. Now, to get it completely disconnected, you pushed down on this tab, you're able to pull the connectors apart. So now we can grab our new T connector wiring and before we plug it in, what I like to do, is just take some dielectric grease and just coat the terminals.
That'll just help keep them protected from any corrosion or anything like that. So once we get a layer of this grease on the terminals and we can move up and get it plugged in.So each end is going to match up, line them up and get them plugged in together. Now with that connected, you can find a spot to attach this ground wire to the body of our vehicle. The spot that I chose to ground our white wire here, it's going to be right here in this opening, a solid piece of metal. We know it's going to give us a good ground. So I'll take my drill and the included self-tapping tech screw and get that secured. And we can grab the other end of our wiring and get it ran over to where we want to mount up our seven way plug.
I want to point out that this wiring doesn't come included with any brackets, but you can find many different types and styles available here at etrailer.Right here is where I'm going to mount it, just underneath our factory four pole. That way they're together and really easy to get to. So we'll take the end of our wire, just feed it through the opening. Again, I'll take some dielectric grease, put it on the terminals, then we can grab our seven way plug and get the two connected together. Once, you get them connected, push it back into the bracket and then we can get it secured. So I went ahead and just secured our extra wiring and this is what it looks like. I kind of just wrapped it up with some zip ties and tied it up out of the way. Now, it is always a good idea to test your wiring to make sure it's functioning properly. So we'll go ahead and do that now. We'll use our left turn, our right turn, our breaks, our running lights, and

Yes, this will be a plug and play. We have not experienced any issues with it needing to be reprogrammed. www.etrailer.com/Custom-Fit-Vehicle-Wiring/Curt/C56431.html
