Hello, neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer, and today we're taking a look and installing the CURT Trailer Hitch Receiver on a 2023 Chevy Traverse. Now you may be wondering, "Where is the hitch located I don't see anything." And that's the great part about the Traverse is from the factory, there's an access panel that's gonna cover up the hitch until you're ready to use it. You'll just simply twist those knobs. We'll get this to pop out, and now we have full access to our hitch. And that's kind of the great part about this one is it does, it is extremely hidden the entire time until you need to use it. Now that does require pulling the fascia off to get this installed, but overall, you're gonna get one of the cleanest looks out there with a nice OEM look when not using it.
Now this is a two inch by two inch receiver tube opening, so it's gonna be a great option when choosing accessories, whether you're getting a ball mount, bike rack, or cargo carrier, there's tons of options in that two inch configuration. Now all of those are gonna stay in place with a five eighths pin and clip. This is not included with the hitch. A lot of times your accessories will come with one. If you plan on leaving your accessory on the back of your vehicle, you might wanna look into a locking pin and clip.
That way you can lock it in place, leave your accessories on there and know that no one's gonna walk away with them. If you plan on towing a trailer, you do have a loop style safety chain loop. It's gonna make it nice and easy to get your standard S hooks on here. Even a larger clevis style is gonna go on with ease. Now speaking of towing, you're gonna wanna adhere to the weight capacities of this hitch.
As far as gross trailer weight rating, it's pretty decent at 5,000 pounds, which is gonna be the weight of the trailer, plus the accessories loaded onto it. Now your tongue weight rating's really solid with 750 pounds, and that's the downward pressure that's put on the inside of the receiver tube opening. And that's really gonna come down to your suspended accessories, like cargo carriers and bike racks. With 750 pounds, you can definitely load up a four bike bike rack or a cargo carrier and I don't think you're really gonna go over that weight capacity. Now you can use a weight distribution hitch on this, but it is gonna stay the same with those same numbers at 5,000 for the gross trailer weight rating, and seven 50 with the tongue weight rating.
Now it is important before just hooking up to the trailer and hitting the road, check the vehicle's owner's manual to see what it's capable of towing and then compare that with the hitch, as well as all of the components that you'll be using to tow. Now measuring from the center of our hitch pin to the furthest point of our fascia, it's coming in right at about two inches. So as far as choosing a ball mount or accessories that might have a folding position when they're stowed, I really don't worry too much that they're gonna make contact with the rear fascia. Just kind of keep in mind though, that when you have those suspended accessories, they are gonna extend out. So as you go up an incline those can bottom out. But as far as stowing them, I don't think you're gonna have issues. Now with the bike rack or cargo carrier folded up, you're probably not gonna be able to open up the rear hatch, but you can just simply drop those down and then gain full access. As far as ground clearance goes, this one's pretty solid at 20 inches and that's really gonna be important for making sure that you get the proper rise or drop necessary for your trailer. In this case, more than likely you're gonna need a drop, but you can measure the coupler of your trailer, compare it with the height measurements of our hitch, and then you can determine that proper rise and drop to get your trailer nice and level. Now as far as the installation goes, you do have to remove the rear fascia on this vehicle, which isn't terribly hard to do. And then as you start to remove some of the hardware from the bumper beam, which will not stay on here, it's also gonna drop down the exhaust and you'll then just fish wire some hardware in. So overall, this is actually a pretty easy one. There's no trimming required, and we'll walk you through all the steps to make sure you get yours installed. So let's take a look. To get our hitch installed we are gonna be removing our rear fascia, and the first step to getting our fascia taken off is heading to these plugs. We're gonna open up the hatc

Thanks for the information. It all worked as you illustrated. One thing is I needed to tighten the flange mount upper nuts to get enough of the carriage bolt to add the washer and nut. I also used a 1x1 18"long stick to insert into the access hole and had my wife keep pressure on it to keep the bolt from lifting back up. Also, as you instructed at the end of your video, do the electrical now whether you need it or not. Great vid. GB

Hey, my man. I finished the install today, and it was a breeze. Once I got past the T-15, and other panel screws, the rest was 1-2-3! On a side note, I had to also remove the mud guards I installed last year. The fit of the hitch I ordered was a flush fit, and the carriage bolts went through the frame and threaded right into the hitch. Not having to fish the bolts through saved a good amount of time. All in all, it was a fun install. Thanks again, for the DIY video! 😎👍
