Hello neighbors. It's Brad here at etrailer and today we're taking a look and installing the Demco Diode Wiring on a 2021 Ford Ranger. Now when it comes to flat towing a vehicle, you need to make sure that you have your lights on the towed vehicle to let the people behind you know and many times you'll see magnetic lights or ones that you just kind of stick on. Well, the great part about diode wiring is, once you have it installed in your factory wires here, you're still gonna retain all your normal light functions but it's actually gonna mimic it based off the RV and that's done via the umbilical. So once the diodes are installed all you have to do is hook up the included umbilical here from our seven to six pole and that's gonna transmit all of our turning, running lights as well as our brake lights to keep you safe and legal. Now there's gonna be five main components when you are flat towing a vehicle and the first one we'll start on the vehicle side is gonna be the base plate.
And that's what actually attaches to the frame or the bumper support to give you a sturdy mount to have your arms, to attach to your tow bar and that's gonna be your second component. Your tow bar is gonna be the connection point between the towed vehicle and the RV's hitch. Now going along with the base plate, this one actually has an integrated safety cable hoop here and most of them will. So that way you can hook up your safety cables which is your third component. And that's just gonna allow, if the vehicle was to disconnect, it's gonna hold that together and it's not gonna separate.
Now you also have supplemental braking. So when you put the brakes or stop in your RV, it's gonna apply that appropriately on the vehicle and also you have a breakaway cable here, that way if it does fully become disconnected, it'll pull this cable, putting the brakes on the vehicle and bringing it to a stop. Your final component is gonna be your diode wiring and that's the umbilical here which is gonna send our stop, running light and turn signals from the RV to the towed vehicle to let the people behind you know what you're doing and keep you safe and legal. To begin our install, we routed from the front to the back of the vehicle and now we'll pick up from there. So our brown and yellow, I've pulled these up kind of got the major part of the slack out, cut those down and stripped them.
So now we're gonna take our brown and white jumper wire here and I'm gonna be using the blue spade terminal. It does seem like it's a slightly larger gauge. So that's gonna allow us to kind of get this on there and then we'll go ahead and crimp this down. Then I'm gonna just throw a purple on our yellow. So now we're gonna want to actually get our diode and you're gonna see it's labeled out and then in, in.
So your out is gonna be facing towards the plug. So we'll just go ahead and make that connection here on our black and white and our solid red. And then it really doesn't matter which one you use on each end as far as making the connection here but you do want let's take our solid red and match it in that way that connection is still complete on our factory wiring. And we'll do the same here with the black and white. And so now, we have our stop and turn signal. Now this is gonna go with our red. So the yellow is specific to the left side. Now we have that connection made and then our tail light or running light, this is gonna be that jumper. So we have our brown running to it and that white's gonna go over to our passenger so we'll just plug that in here. And then at this point, what I like to do is actually kind of zip tie this or tape it all together and that way it's not moving all around. It kind of keeps it cohesive, keeps a little bit of that stress off the wiring as well. So I'm gonna go here and throw a zip tie around just to kind of keep it secure. So now that we have our connections made here, again, I've kind of just used electrical tape just to kind of keep those electrical connections secure. We'll go ahead, plug this back in, lock it in place and get our taillight back in. Now you're also gonna wanna pull some of this extra slack out and zip tie anything else that might be bundled up. So, there's this nice pocket in here, I'm gonna run our wires in there and then we'll get our taillight in place. So now we're gonna just repeat the same process on the other side by getting our taillight out and peeling back that wire loom and tape that's on the wiring and then we'll make the connections over there. Now you'll be happy to know, on the passenger side, the wires are actually gon
