Speaker 1: Today, we'll be replacing the hinge seal for Extang Encore Tonneau covers. Part number EX-32620464. Is your Extang Tonneau cover leaking from the hinges Don't replace your tonneau cover. Replace the seals. These are an exact replacement for the seals on your Extang Encore Tonneau cover. Here you can see our old ones.
They're dry rotted, and they're beginning to leak.In order to replace the seals, we'll need to open our first panel, and we'll be taking off this whole end cap here. We can do that with a Phillips head screwdriver. We'll take the screw out here, and there. Once I've got them loosened up, they should just come right on out. We'll need to take out the plate, as well.
Now the whole cap just pops right on off.Here you can see our seals. Now we can slide the whole panel off. It's a good idea to get an extra set of hands. With the panel disconnected, it's going to make it that much easier to remove our seal. To install the new one, we'll need to make sure that we've got the channel side facing up here.
It's actually going to slide on to the channel here. You'll need to start underneath the rubber seal, and just push it on. Just like that.You want to do it slow. That way, it stays on track the whole way. Once we get all the way down to the other end, we'll need to trim the excess.
I'm going to mark it like that, and pull it out slightly. Then cut the rest off. Slip it back in place, just like that. To replace our second one, we're going to pull out the hinge panel. This one, since we can easily see it, we can pull it out from here. No reason to take it off. If it helps, we can use some needlenose pliers.Once you got a hold of it, we can easily pull it out. Then we can slide our new one into place, in the same way we did the other. Now we can slide our hinge panel back in place. Now with an extra set of hands, we'll go ahead and replace the front panel. Then we could replace our end cap, and our screws. Get one started, and then we'll start the next one. That's going to complete your replacement of the hinge seal for Extang Encore Tonneau covers. For anyone attempting this do NOT try and slide the hinge seals back in. You will get MAYBE 1/4 of the way down before it locks up. You simply cannot do it this way and I don’t know in what world they thought a new demo truck and tonneau was comparable to even just a 5 year old one with straw, dust and such. Instead, line up the seal with the “C” side facing the channel. Gradually press down onto it along the way as if you were pinch sealing a ziplock bag. Once down to the other side you can just look and cut the excess off. Don’t be afraid to put a little pressure as you make your individual presses along the way to ensure that the “C” is properly hooked onto the channel. This was not hard once I abandoned the method used here and did it the way I described above.

Lubricate the inside (round channel) of the hinges and the panel flanges (where you mount the seals) before installation. Any dust or grit makes it difficult to slide them back into place. Contrary to the video here, it is MUCH easier to align the seals with the section flanges and pop them onto the flanges, rather than trying to feed the seals across the full width of the panels. The rear section seals are done exactly the same way as the front ones. You can align the hinges and panels by tapping with a hammer and wood block on reassembly. Use a small screwdriver to pop out the top of each end cap trim on reassembly.

Thank you for sharing this with us! We would recommend using soapy water instead of a spray lubricant to get the replacement seals in place if you are having trouble. i forgot to secure my cover and it flapped closed and slightly put the rear hinge out of place . now it will not fold down correctly, what would be a repair solution ?

Need seal for my 2016 tacoma 5feet bed r they the same size or need to get the parts number?

There is only going to be one size replacement seal and you will need to cut it to length. It will be 64 1/2" long so it should be plenty long for your cover on your 2016 Tacoma. www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/Extang/ex32620464.html
