Hello, neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer, and today we're taking a look at installing the Dee Zee NXt running boards on a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic. Now, this is gonna be available in two different color configurations. You have your all black, and then there's also black with the chrome overlay here. So you can kind of customize that look to the liking of your truck. Now, this kit comes with a custom mounting bracket kit that's going to fit specifically to your truck. So here we have a crew cab, but if you have a quad cab, it's gonna match up perfectly to that.
You're just gonna wanna make sure to use the vehicle fit guide on etrailer to make sure that you're getting the proper length for your truck. Now, adding running boards to your truck is kind of becoming a little bit more of a popular trend as trucks overall have gotten a little bit taller and a little bit more ground clearance. And also we're seeing that there's a lot more quad cab and crew cab trucks, and it becomes the family hauler. So having two little ones myself, having a truck means that they're gonna have to really jump up to get in, and with the running boards, it makes it a little bit easier for them to be able to get that step sure-footedly and get in the truck. Now, along the running board, it's gonna be six inches wide, and you have rubber grommets throughout the whole thing to give you a no-slip feel when you step onto it.
So even if it's snowy or wet, you're gonna have that traction necessary to be able to hop into your truck without slipping off of it. And it is aluminum, so it's pretty lightweight, but also that means that this can live, you know, on the outside of your truck for its lifespan and not have rust happening, and part of that happens to be because of the black powder coat finish, which is gonna protect it. Now, on both ends, it has a nice tapered finish here, so it gives it a really good look, and it's not sticking down too much, so you don't have to worry that much about ground clearance. And it sits, I think, in a really good spot against the truck to where you still have enough grip to be able to step on there, but also it's not gonna stick out too much, looking kind of odd on the vehicle. Now, the installation is really easy because you get custom brackets, and this one in particular uses a Nutsert that you're gonna put in, but it comes with the tools required to be able to do that, and that means there's no drilling required, which just makes installation pretty quick, and I bet you could probably do this in about 40 minutes to an hour, give or take.
And the great part, too, is once it's on there, it's going to hold up, again, to those elements, but it's also rated for 350 pounds, so even if you have someone that's a little bit larger, they can step on this. It's not gonna flex. It has a nice sturdy feel because it's using some factory mounts that are underneath the body, so you're not having to worry too much that it's gonna hold up to that. Now, speaking of that installation, let's take a look at that now so you can get your running boards installed. The first thing you're gonna wanna do is lay out your brackets.
They are gonna be specific to each location, and it's really just two designs of the bracket, but make sure you have them laid out accordingly. And on the front, depending, some of your, depending on the model, you're gonna have a bracket here that may or may not have weld nuts already there, ours does. The other locations, you'll be putting Nutserts in, but since you have weld nuts here, we can go ahead and utilize those. Now, being that this is the Midwest, we do have some rust buildup that was in here, and you're gonna wanna make sure that your hardware is able to pass in. So what I did is I took some penetrating oil and a tube brush, and I cleaned this out, just to kind of get any of that debris and kind of buildup in there. Now, you may need to run this in and out a few times. You wanna make sure it's not gonna damage the threads, so make sure that that's cleared out before attempting to put your hardware in. Now, our bracket here on our front passenger is gonna just align with those holes, and we'll be taking these bolts, and just throughout the process, we're pretty much just gonna kind of get it snug. We don't want to tighten it down all the way because when we put the running board on, we want that adjustability to kind of be able to get everything properly aligned. So just kind of get these started here, and you can kind of leave it just kind of hang in there for now. And I'm just gonna, aga
