Hey guys, it's Jake here with etrailer. Today we have a 2019 Ford F-450 and we're gonna be taking a look at, I'm gonna show you how to install the Firestone Dual Air Command Air Compressor. This is an onboard air compressor that's designed to be paired with a set of airbags that you put on the back axle to help you to add and subtract air from the bags when you're hauling different loads down the road. I'd say the biggest thing that separates this compressor from a lot of other compressors on the market is gonna be that it has a dual path design, so you can air up each airbag individually. So if you have a rigging truck or if you have an uneven load in the bed of the truck you can air up one side more than the other. Another thing that this is gonna help with is sway control.
If you're having a lot of problems with sway it's probably because the sway is starting in the bed of your truck, the truck is rocking from side to side when you're going down the road, wind is tipping the truck so then the truck is adjusting the trailer. This can help you to put different air in the bags so that you can control it a little bit better. This is what the system's gonna look like when it's mounted up, you'll have your compressor right here and your ECU right here, which is essentially just the module that controls where the air goes and what will connect to your phone via Bluetooth. This bracket kit does not come with the compressor kit, but I highly recommend getting it because this made it so much easier to mount it up. If you don't get this, you either have to make your own bracket or you're gonna have to put some self tappers through your frame rails.
The only way I would not use this bracket kit is if I was putting this like inside a toolbox or somewhere in the bed of the truck, then you wouldn't necessarily need this. But this bracket is designed to mount a compressor and the module up onto the frame rail, comes with the U-bolts and everything, it bolts right up. Another big difference between this kit and a lot of others that I really like, because you're adding the compressor to the vehicle anyway, some of the other kits online you'll see that they'll have an auxiliary tank, which that's not a bad idea to have, but this one is going to have an auxiliary schrader valve on the outside, and what you can do, you take the included hose, you simply clip it on here lock it into place, and now you can go into your app turn on the auxiliary compressor set the PSI to the desired ending goal and you can air up whatever you want. So if you have a bike tire, some sporting equipment if you have a golf cart with you at the campsite, you can set that PSI rating to whatever you want, turn on the compressor, hold this onto your tire, or whatever you're trying to air up and the compressor will stop when it reaches that desired PSI. This compressor's gonna be rated for up to 150 PSI which when paired with the Firestone Red Label bags, they're also gonna be rated for up to 150 PSI.
Something to keep in mind is that these compressors are very small so you have to give them time. They will have a work cycle duty, or a work duty cycle, you want to give them a little bit of a break. If you're going up to 80 PSI in your bags, which is very common, the trailer we're hauling with this truck it's 15,000 pounds, it's a toy hauler, 15,000 pounds, empty. When it's fully loaded down it can get all the way up to 20,000 pounds. So this is gonna require quite a bit of air in these airbags.
So if you're airing up to say 10 PSI to haul a small lawn trailer or something like that, that's not gonna take any time at all, maybe a couple seconds. Any PSI, from my experience, any PSI over 50 PSI is going to take quite a bit. So I recommend bumping it up to 50, and if you're trying to get to say 90 PSI in your airbags, bump it to 60, let it reach 60 and then bump it 10 at a time and just give the compressor a little bit of a break because after all, it is a small compressor and if you overwork it, you could end up burning it out. Now with that, if you choose to go with this option because of the auxiliary port, which it's a very handy tool, just keep in mind that if you're going to use it to air up larger tires, like these big tires on our F-450, they're gonna have 110 PSI rating, same with our campe
