Rob: How's it going, everybody It's Rob here at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Timbren rear suspension enhancement on our 2019 Ford F-350 Super Duty. I know everybody is interested in how they're going to work, what they look like, and how the driving experience is going to be. We'll go ahead and cover that first. But if you stick around to the end of the video, we're going to show you how to get them installed. Our Timbrens are going to provide us support for our truck whenever we have a load in the back, or wherever we're pulling a trailer. Because whenever you do, we put a lot of weight on the back end of our truck.
By the time that happens, the back end ends up sagging down and puts a lot of strain and stress on our rear suspension. There's a few other things that happen other than the back end just going down. We'd like to get a few baseline measurements. Right now we have our truck completely unloaded, so I'm going to take a measurement from the ground to about the middle of the arch of the wheel well. Now, back here, we're getting a measurement of 43 inches. Let's go ahead and move to the front.
Now, up here, you're getting a measurement of right about 41 inches. We're going to put a load in the back and see how it affects those measurements, see how far back the back end goes down, and how far the front end rises up.Now that we have the load in the back of our truck, we've got a water tank back here to simulate a heavy load in the back of your bed. Maybe you have a bed full of mulch or rock. Or if you're towing a trailer, this will simulate the tongue load. If we take that same measurement, the bottom of the wheel was coming in right about 40.5 inches.
We actually dropped right about 2.5 inches back here. We move up to the front, we can see how much the front end raised up.Now, up here, we're almost at 42 inches. It went up about three quarters of an inch. That's because the back end went down, which is causing the front end to tilt up. Now, that ends up meaning we're not having as much contact on our front tires, so the steering and braking is going to be diminished.
Not to mention our headlights are actually slightly pointing up now. Even though it doesn't seem that big of a deal as we're driving down the road, we're going to be potentially blinding people and not being able to see as well.Having a little bit of squat in the back is actually a good thing. Our suspension is designed to have a little bit of flex to it when we have a load in the back. But when we don't, it's there to give us a nice, soft, comfortable ride. We have to find a balance in between. Now, when you do have a load in the back, you want about an inch of drop, but no more than two. Once the suspension realizes that it is coming down, there's a breaking valve that's in the truck. It actually sends more braking power to the rear brakes while you're towing a heavy load.Once you have about an inch of drop, that way your truffle tow nice and level, and the braking power will be in the back where you need it when you're pulling. But with our load in the back of our truck, we're going to take our truck on the test scores. See how it handles without the Timbrens in place. As we come up to our bumps course, this is going to let us know how much the back end is sagging down, and how much it's actually going to affect our driving and our experience. To be honest, it's really not that bad, because it is a rather large truck and it is meant to carry this big load. But after we get over the bump, it is kind of a jarring feeling. The initial bump isn't too bad. It's more of the rebound afterwards and the harsh drop that happens. Once we get to these alternating speed bumps, you can really feel the back end kind of pushing you around . kind of like if you we're to hit a pothole or curve on one side, the back end kind of wants to twist around on us.It's not horrible. But again, once we get over the bump is really where it starts to resonate through the seat, and you could definitely feel that harsh bump. As we go through our slalom 00:04:03 course here, we're going about 10 miles an hour so I can get a pretty good idea of baseline for once we have our Timbrens in place. But I can already tell you just going in and out of the turns, you can definitely feel that weight shifting. It's not that bad, but you can feel kind of this mushy, soft feeling as you're going to turn. It's almost like the truck wants to lean really hard before we actually get into the turn itself. Now that we have our bas

Do they lift the rear at all? Or does it stay stock height? With no load.

The # TFR350SDJ Timbren springs won't change the vehicle's ride height when the vehicle isn't under load. www.etrailer.com/Vehicle-Suspension/Timbren/TFR350SDJ.html

Are Timbren’s good for a truck camper?

Timbren's would be a good option for a truck with an in-bed camper because it will provide the constant pressure and support you need under the weight that a truck needs. We would recommend a set of air bags if you find that you are getting a lot of body roll from the weight of the camper. www.etrailer.com/Vehicle-Suspension/Timbren/TFR350SDJ.html
