Hi everyone! I'm sharing my experience and tips on how I used Etsy to build the brand that allowed me to jump to full time illustrator! hope it helps :)
Hi Asia, I have a couple of questions I work on commission based only and I don't know to fix it is set physical so at the moment i have to sent a shipping mail but the only have to download isn't that weird and how do you calculate btw or tax ? Do you use your full listing price for let's say 150 euro and calculate the, in my case 21 procent over that and hand that to taxasation or does etsy that for you?
I plan on starting off on Etsy until I build a good reputation as an artist, and this video has helped me realize how limiting Etsy can be. Thanks. I’m just worried without the help of Etsy, sinc si don’t have a following my art wouldn’t sell.
I forgot to tell you that your illustrations are wonderful! Loved the colors! Also, after your video and some thinking, I guess I lost interest in trying Etsy. The commissions are a burden especially those on shipping costs.
This is interesting. I had been considering Etsy or an outside platform like InPrint to link to my website. I’ve heard of Shopify and other plug ins, but as someone starting out I can’t justify the cost of that. I use Wordpress, go daddy, and pay for a separate hosting service. I also get though how Etsy can help you build a reputation, but I’ve heard numerous concerns from artists the past few years about their fees and other charges.
I totally understand, for me Etsy when you are staring out it’s just right, cost wise is good, and has a lot of integrations like Printful which is great 🤗
Great information. I'm thinking to sell my fashion sketches on etsy. If I upload a pictures of sketches, are my sketches safe ? Please give me a information that would be helpful for further steps

Thank you for the informative video! I have some questions if you have time to answer! How do you promote your separate shop is it purely from social media? the reviews seem to say Shopify ranks better than Squarespace, do you have any opinion on that? does Shopify run ads for you as Etsy does? or is advertising purely down to you, in which case do you do something like Facebook ads or google ads? Thankyou again for the useful content!
Hi Sam, I only share my work on social media, and to be honest I don’t look at google rank in search as that traffic is less than 1% for me, also I’m using Squarespace so if you run any ads would have to be via google or FB/insta, same for Shopify. Depending on what you do a campaign can be really effective if you have a well defined audience, in my case I rather not to invest in adds :) hope it helps 🤗
@@AsiaOrlando thankyou for the informative reply! I am currently growing a youtube channel with insta and also recently started etsy with insta, do you have any advice for using it to promote? I mostly try to post good stuff every day that isnt just spamming the channel on the youtube one and its grown to about 530 followers in 2 months... would you say that's ok growth or am I not doing something right? My etsy is only 2 days old but I got 30 on there so far ^_^ do you buy adverts on Instagram or do you literally just let it grow naturally from posting? I was going to be doing all this anyway over the week and learning some insta keywords but would be great to get a professional opinion from yourself, you should be very proud of what you have done! :)
@@Sam-yr8ls To be completely honest Sam, I'm not the right person to give advise on running adds, I used them in the past but I'm pretty sure I did something wrong. Anyway, I always prefer to be discovered organically and that my audience really like my work and what I do. :)
Buen trabajo.
Hi Laura, to be honest, as you already have Squarespace, and merely from a marketing perspective, I wouldn't open an Etsy (also Etsy is more expensive now). Squarespace is easy to use and set up, not as easy as Etsy, but still. In your case I would just have my storefront also on my website, even if you are just starting out. My reasoning is that if if you go to Etsy now, at some point you will be back on your site, so why to bother. I recommend Etsy if you are really starting out. For example all your products, shares and saves will be linked otherwise to an Etsy, that you might or not use for long. In short, I would build up my own shop on Squarespace with their commerce basic plan :)
@@AsiaOrlando thank you, my lovely, for replying! That is encouraging advice. I don't mind spending a little time figuring out the Squarespace store, and it makes sense like you say, to stay on the platform :) I was concerned that, with not having a massive following already on social media, it would not make sense at first, cost-wise. But I shall look into it! Thank you again for taking the time to respond
Does the printful service have a fee cost? .. I'm thinking of selling my illustrations for prints but ofcourse I'm a beginner and do not have the equipment to produce my own prints for buyers.
Hi 👋 yes they charge your for the products, like any other print house, but they manage all including distribution. They have really cool short videos on their site explaining how it works :)
If I decided to utilize Printful to connect my Etsy shop with, would they be able to send my prints back to me so that I would be able to customize all of my orders/packaging, or would they immediately send to my customers? And if they are able to send my prints back to me is it a super long wait time for customers? Thanks xoxo
Hi 👋 if you automate it goes directly to your customers, you will have to manually place every order if you want it shipped to you, it’s not only increasing the time for your customers, but the price as well for you, as there’s double shipping costs .. that’s why I print at home
So informarive and I like how transparent you are about everything. I agree, etsy is good for new artists but it's important to open your own website once you have established your brand. I know some artists who have been on etsy for very long and get alot of sales on etsy. Some have their own websites and some don't. There's one illustrator who sells well on etsy and has over 10,000 sales and started her shop last year during covid. She still has her own website since you can never trust etsy plus they're always changing their rules and policies. There's another illustrator who has a large following on instagram but has mentioned about how much she struggled to get sales on etsy. I guess it depends from artist-to-artist. btw, have you thought about licensing your adt witg iamfy? You do have to be approved but I think it's better than society6 and redbubble. Once you're approved, an art buyer reaches out to you and you send them your art. I can see your art doing well on that website, especially your jungle prints😊
