I've only heard about this ballet and seen pictures of it in books. It's really beautiful, and I love the music. Thank you for posting this on RU-vid, and I wish more companies had this in their rep.
such an effervescent feeling this ballet gives, like champagne brimming over. there's no other ballet like it. music my Carl Czerny, choreography by Harald Lander, i just love it! thank you.
Man this is a ballet that brings a company level really high ( more so than Thems and variations). They do an excellent job at it. It must be so much fun doing it even though i am sure you can't really move anymore afterwords and during it you don't wanna stop for breathing cause you'll just fall flat on the floor. :-) But really great to see. Cogratulations
I first saw this in the 1960's when danced by the then London Festival Ballet (Now the English National Ballet) I had forgotten how spectacular it was. However it is only at its best when all the Corp and Solo work is neat and kept in line. Otherwise it looks v ery messy. In other words "Keep together and in line folk" !!
Remember that this ballet, in one act orchester music, 46 minutes, has been composed by Knudåge Riisager, inspired by Czernys pianoetudes, in the late 1940es. Choreographer: Harald Lander (Czerny was not an orchestercomposer - and - i should think, dead at the time)
Watching this great performance makes me even more disappointed that I didn't get to see Michele Wiles dance the female lead in this ballet during the Met season as well on tour. I would loved to have seen how her superior techniques matched the technical demand of this ballet. Then, of course, there's Angel Corella, Marcelo Gomes and David Hallberg for the male leads. Thanks for posting this!
They principals have no attack, no magic no excitement...go look at the old film of the Royal Danish that was made for tv if you want to see this ballet danced brilliantly..or ABT's excerpts from tv years ago. Typical of today, everybody is lazy and have none of the dynamite of the old dances.
I remember seeing ABT perform this many years ago with Bujones and Tcherkassky in the leads and they were much more inspiring. Crisp attack and flawless technique from principals, soloists and the corps.
