For Surguja, just get Orissa to support your independence and declare as soon as truce is up. If Jharkhand gets any serious allies, it's probably a restart. But Orissa vassal swarm + your army & mercs should be ok against Bengal (some competence from AI required, which might be annoying).

@@TheRedHawk So I persevered and with a lot of RNG finally broke free in 1497 with alliances to Bengal and Juanpur. I didn't bother continuing because it should be straightforward at that point. I secured that support because my overlord allied Bahmanis. The only strat I can see working is to pray to RNGesus.

It's tough indeed and unless you're very lucky will require a few restarts, but I don't think it's THAT hard. It all hinges on the one big independence war of you+Orissa vs Jharkand+Bengal, but if you win that you can take not just the Jharkand provinces but also a good amount of land from Bengal, catapulting you to a decent starting size. Lacking feudalism isn't really a problem as you'll get it instantly after winning the independence war. Patna was still unconquered and had no big allies at that point in 90% of my test runs, so you can easily conquer them next and get a very cheap-to-develop province to move your capital to and develop the renaissance. From there on it's just ordinary gameplay as a mid-size Indian nation with a few different routes of expansion, and it's not too difficult to get some larger allies. Definitely not an *easy* start, but I don't think it's on the same level as, say, Otomi or Perm where you have to spend 50 years carefully managing coalitions and barely staving off bankruptcy, or the vassal-of-a-vassal releasables where you have to win a double-independence war on your own.

I just tried it now, got lucky and got it first try. Allied Orissa and declared for independence as soon as truce is up. It's basically me + Orissa vs Bengal, which is a hard war but not impossible thanks to the Orissa vassal swarm. Orissa even blocked me from fully annexing Jharkhand which was super annoying. But once you get independence there's plenty of small fish to eat and it's somewhat easy to find some bigger allies at that point. Jharkhand getting strong allies is probably the difficult part. In my run they allied some useless OPM to the west which ended up not mattering at all.

The coalition would have to fight his allies France and Ottoman, I'd run that risk.

? How is this a losing situation? Good income, manpower, army, and navy. The coalition will not declare on him with ottomans and france as allies. This is a strong position.
