In this video titledEU4 Releasables - This HIDDEN Nation Is SECRETLY OVERPOWERED I do a playthrough as Leon after releasing it from Castile and I try to become a great power in Europa Universalis 4 1.34 Lions of The North. This is the series titled Releasables where I attempt to play every releasable nation in EU4 or Europa Universalis 4. In this video I play as the nation of Leon in EU4. If you have an opportunity to jump into the Maghreb you should, crusader Sicily Mediterranean giant, and the plus side is the Maghreb is easy to expand into when you can.

Aragon would be your overlord, but it would be a shame for you to let there be two different Sicilies on the map. As a special goal you should form the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies even though it is technically against the rules.

I always feel super guilty for betraying the AI, it’s ridiculous how crippling it is. I don’t like attacking friendly nations….so stupid. It’s really annoying because sometimes I’ll be generous with them and they’ll have zero qualms turning on me. I wanna get those Low Countries just once without save scumming.

i relate to this so much, all those times playing small nations and buddying up with a loyal big boy to take out another big boy, only to finally have a stable power base and be force to backstab the very nation which helped you when you needed it most…. but in the grand scheme of this game, EXPANSION IS NECESSARY!

I mean getting them is half the trouble. I saw France getting them many times, only to be slaughtered by Austria and their boys in a punitive war. And vice-versa. Big Austria is way less scary than big France though, due to shitty troop quality and the AI not merging their and their PU’s armies well

Because the nation you release eats up one of the overlord's relations slots, these always lead to interesting diplomatic situations where they can't ally all the people they normally would. Or at least the AI won't see themselves as able. Someone gets left out and then it snowballs from there.

Since you’re playing as Sicily, you should forego land conquest and instead focus on becoming a Mediterranean Thalassocracy where you dominate the islands/coast line and then move on to create a naval empire by conquering all the islands of the world.

If your Capital is a center of trade I recommend upgrading it to level 2 at 10 development and then to level 3 at 25 to give yourself cheaper dev costs.

I noticed when you were deving for Renaissance in your capital, which is a center of trade, you had nearly 400 ducats and the trade center was level 1 at 29 dev. Could have saved so much monarch points.

Also at 15 and 30 dev, you can expand infrastructure in a province for another whopping -25% dev cost reduction along with a long list of other bonuses for the low low price of 50 base admin points and a 10% gov cap increase cost for that province and a local +15 gov cap cost increase

I imagine in cases of dealing with colonizers, what you could do to make sure you don't go on wild goose chases after them around the world is simply vassalizing them at the first opportunity and integrate them later, I don't know if this is valid within the rules but it would guarantee you erradicate them out of the map

So, there's three main reasons why Aragon almost never picks explo ideas: -Subject nations are hardcoded to never take explo (they will fill them out if picked BEFORE becoming a subject) -Aragon has a hardcoded x0.5 (i.e. halved chance) to take explo -Countries that only border the Mediterranean, Baltic or Red seas have a x0.5 (halved) chance of taking explo ideas If you want to maximize the chances that that Aragon takes explo: -Give them a non-Mediterranean coastal province (e.g. Vizcaya) -Make them embrace the Renaissance -Make sure they have at least 20 coastal provinces

when you began the independence war, you could have asked for mil access from england or france and stationed your troops in their land so as to not get stack-wiped. since they are your allies when the war begins, your troops also won't get blackflagged
