In this video,
I breakdown the differences between the EUFY Homebase 2 and Eufy Homebase 3. I also share my experience about the Eufy Homebase 2 that I currently own and use with most of my Eufy Security Cameras.
If you are looking for some direction on which EUFY Homebase to get for your Eufy security camera, hopefully this video sheds some light and clarity on which one you should get.

The thing I like the most about Homebase 3 is that they're going back and adding compatibility for even legacy devices, as far back as the original line of Eufy cams and floodlight cams. Picking up some 1st or 2nd gen stuff for super cheap on ebay and hooking it to a modern HB3 is super handy if you just want a decent system quickly, which you can upgrade later on. HB3 is the future lol.

so true! I saw there was one specific camera that was not going to be compatible but I would have to go back to the compatibility list to remember which one it was but otherwise its backwards compatibility is phenomenal

Would have been nice if you would have talked more about a differences, the new features instead of just showing spreadsheet on screen. Don’t really mention any real difference. Just food for thought for your next video.

I bought the Home Base 3 and wired indoor camera S350. I downloaded app. I installed the camera and updated firmware. Installed Homebase 3 and updated firmware. Tried to connect the camera to Home Base 3. The app says I need to install a Home Base 3!? So frustrating trying to connect them together!

The Heart breaking difference for me was losing HomeKit compatibility (for now, they claim) when I upgraded to Homebase 3. It wasn’t a dealbreaker…in the end…but it almost was, lol. Overall I’m satisfied with the upgrades. I threw in an external drive (1Tb). I ain’t gonna lie. I miss the HomeKit access. 😢

That’s a great call out. I didn’t realize that the HomeKit compatibility was removed for the Homebase 3 😭😤 seems pretty backwards.

there have been talks that they have really pulled back on their homekit focus but it may be temporary as theyve been hyper focused on the Vision pro and the now canceled apple car hahaha @@dotnetdevni

I was all about the HomeKit compatibility but it seems when you use HomeKit it disables a lot of camera features. I think I might just buy the home base and forget about HomeKit

@@bill9275 agreed. I have the homebase with extra storage. It is nice to see the cameras on the Apple TV, though. I miss that feature, but you are so correct about losing functionality. Same with my Philips Hue. I use their native app, mostly.

does the Homebase 3 has a battery so it keeps working even if the electricity stops working?

Unfortunately, there is no internal battery so it would not. But, from my understanding, if you have the solar powered or the battery operated EUFY cameras, they have their own internal memory and will still capture moments. The cameras can operate on a local network or directly through their storage without needing an internet connection for the basic function of recording. However, features like remote viewing, receiving notifications, or cloud storage will not be available without internet. If the internet goes down, you won't be able to access live feeds or recorded videos remotely until the connection is restored. But, once the internet is back, if the camera is set to sync or if you manually upload, you can access those recordings. Hope this helps

Homebase 3 covers all fronts with backwards compatibility and expandable memory and ai tech built into it ohh and it’s faster. Does everything HB2 except 2 things (currently and this may change with updates) and those HomeKit isn’t fully there in HB3 yet and Offline backups aren’t available yet 😢 But overall HB3 is more “premium” excluding those 2 specific features that will apparently be added in the hopefully near future.

The faster wired connection (10/100 vs 10/100/1000Mbps) is huge for me. I have the Homebase 2 and thinking about updating as I see a lot of buffering when someone's at the door.

Am I correct in assuming: You can connect a Eufycam 2 camera to the 3Base, You cannot connect a Eufycam 3 camera to the 2Base.

That sounds right! The Base 3 is backwards compatible while the Base 2 is not compatible with many of the Newer units.

Honestly it varies but apparently some people have seen 2-3 watts when idle and around 5 watts with active transfers. Hope that helps

Is this Homebase 3 equipment remotely accessible? sample: you are on vacation and can you easy see it from distance?

Anywhere you have service or wifi connection, you should be able to access the eufy app and connect to your eufy devices. For the homebase, it holds and stores the footage so your devices dont take up their internal memory. to view the footage that is stored on the homebase you can click on the desired device connected to the homebase and view the stored footage. Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the Homebase 2 have a backup capability to where even if the internet/wifi is down, it will still record from the cameras, where as the Homebase 3 does not have that?

Both have that feature but the 3 gets a bonus with option for an expandable hardrive

@@ohanareviews Thanks for the reply, as I was told by someone from Eufy the HB2 has the backup feature, but the HB3 did not. I was going to upgrade because the HB3 interfaces with more cameras than the HB2, but I wanted that feature when the Wifi isn't working.

Geezzz. I just looked into this more and they are saying that you can access VIA USB if Wifi goes out 🤦🏾‍♂️ Seriously EUFY.... huge fail. Also great Call out!

Section 01:07-01:10 has the 2 chime volume is very much adjustable between Alarm and Prompt options

Yea you can hear it from about 2 rooms away but you can get a chime extension to move the sound without moving the homebase

I have in my terrace 2 EufyCam 2C, of course every time I go out there, I receive notification. Unfortunately the homebase 2 doesn’t recognise the house family members, is the homebase 3 better at this? Thanks!

Hb3 does have improved ai family member detection and from what I’ve seen it is much better at it because of their improved bionic mind system in the 3

Honestly. It really depends on a bunch of different settings. I have seen it do much better when the cameras are closer to the subject but then I have seen it mess up when there is something like a cat and say that its a family member. I dont want to give the excuse for EUFY that they kind of suck in this area (as well as timely notifications) because you dont have to pay a subscription fee but BOTH the HB2 and HB3 still struggle with having reliable AI to differentiate between family members and other people and creatures. HB3 is better again, but from what I have seen the settings and setup of the cameras make all of the difference in the world. I am not the only experiencing this with the HB3 either. Beyond the increased expandable memory and unit compatibility options, the HB3 still kind of struggles unless you really have solid cameras, great setup spots, and the right settings. Its more of a step in the right direction but its overall AI needs a ton of work to improve things like family member detection. Hope this helps

The feature should be available with compatible devices out the box with the base memory but would need an additional hard drive once that base memory is maxed out or would need to be formatted

I haven't run into that issue just yet but I'd imagine EUFY would send out a software update to try and fix that issue. Are you having this issue on a specific homebase model? 1, 2, 3?

@@ohanareviews Eufy doesn’t do anything since I start to corresponding with them a year ago. Homebase 2. Almost every time I’m away from my home Wifi there is a problem to connect to any of my cameras. Online no fix and eufy just tells me to restart the homebase and blablabla. Nothing worked.

Because it’s expandable up to 16TB you would need an external hard drive that you install into the HB 3 🤙🏾

Also is it safe to say that a main advantage of getting a Homebase is that if someone steals or smashes your doorbell you lose the footage of who did it but if it's stored on the Homebase it's safe?

You would think so but unless eufy has fixed the major flaw with manually formatting a device that also deletes all data of that device on the Homebase as well then nope it’s not 100% safe. The only real major benefit of getting the homemade is expanding the overall memory of your device, so that it’s not all just saved on the security camera itself, but also in a secondary server

Amazon Alexa devices can show live view of Eufy devices (echo show, fire TV.) it's glitchy, and you sometimes have to ask Alexa 3-4 times, but it works (sort of.)

yes, from the last I checked on the compatibility list on EUFY, the homebase 3 is compatible with all older units excluding a specific sensor

Great question, from my experience so far, on Apple Homekit you will only see the cameras that are connected to the homebase 3 and not the homebase 3 itself though there is a way to set up smart settings on homekit with the homebase 3. Its way more than what I have done so far though hehe
