***UPDATE*** 12/20/23 Eufy reached out to me and to try this (this is counterintuitive but it works) Go to your camera settings of the cameras that are recording in 1080P -> video settings -> recording quality -> change it to 1080P then exit the app. Open up the app again and go back to the camera settings and to the recording quality and now change it to the highest resolution and that's it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3sJCrHZl_24.html
Just tested it and it fixed it for my floodlight cam 2k pro (the fps was also being downgraded from 25 to 15). It did not fix it for my floodlight 2k (non pro version) E220. Still downgrades resolution from 2k to 1080p.
Is there going to be a fix for the reset button so the cam doesn't give itself a lobotomy when an intruder rushes the cam and hits reset before the device wakes up?
I have the Eufy Security Floodlight Cam S330, and all of my recordings are 1080p. Despite trying this, the Eufy Security Floodlight Cam S330 is connected/paired to my Homebase 3 and has a solid wifi connection and states 2k on the spec. Do you have any idea why this may be? My Doorbell Pro 2k, records in 1600x2300, still not 2k :S
Lifehackster, you don’t have to dismount the cameras to get them synced with the home base 3. Just plug the home base 3 into an extension cord and move the home base near the light, sync it and then you can move the home base 3 back to where you want to.
Your videos, my humble opinion, are the de facto standard of home camera setup. I was just getting ready to dump my Arlo setup, due to now having to pay subscriptions costs. Now it seems, I’m still in a holding pattern of listening to your new review & reading other users comments. Please let your viewer know if the Homebase & Eufy camera setup is the way to go, or just another mistake that is costly & aggravating to home users. Thanks for all your efforts & honest reviews!
After looking at many of your Eufy Videos i finally settled and ordered myself the S340 and Homebase 3 along with a 2C Pro and have them all setup to record to the Homebase 3. I have just ordered two (2) S220 SoloCams to add to the Homebase when they arrive. Very impressed with everything so far and really haven't noticed any problems but will keep an eye out for an update from Eufy/You regarding this issue.
Like you, I have two pro 2k cams and a homebase s380 but I have the impression that my videos are not recording on the homebase, I ordered a hard disk to see if that's the problem
Thanks for making this video I'm very disappointed with Eufy's software as the glitches have caused me to miss events that were very important. Making matters worse if you don't have internet for an extended period the cams I had were functionally useless paperweights because they stopped recording and missed some shoplifting and a fight that happened at our bar. I've called them out on this multiple times only to receive lame automated responses that didn't actually make a difference.
Please keep us (your subscribers) updated re what you hear from eufy. I too have invested a lot in their products and just recently purchased a home base 3. Thanks
As someone with HB3 & nearly 2 dozen of eufys newest cameras & devices, I can not emphasize enough my disappointment and regret with my investment in their products. Constant bugs, issues and failures of the app. Constant problems from non-stop "updates" and adding devices to HB3 generating more & more failures. It's honestly just an unreliable system from a security aspect at this point. For example on Halloween, my porch/front of home covered by multiple different cameras only managed to pick up 5 events in my front yard/driveway/porch & door area out of the dozens of trick or treaters that evening. I honestly feel like eufy is a crypto style "rug pull" or "pump & dump" company at this point and fed up with it. They're just pumping & dumping equipment. Works great at first....
Sorry to hear your experience. Mine has been working good. I have the eufy cam 3 in my front yard for more than a year now. I’ll be doing a long term review on their floodlight cam and the solocam S340 and see how it performs long term.
@@MuscledRMH First thing I did. I've done it all down to checking angles & heights of installation, adjusting activity zones you name it. Contacting customer support... which is a laugh & story all in its self. At one point I was even in slack groups with developers participating in test groups ... 5 mins reading app reviews on the play store will show I'm no where near the only upset customer having all the same issues. Theres absolutely no interest in maintaining a functional system by eufy, their sole interest is pumping out & selling new products. Someones year old cameras are having problems after all the updates & new device compatibilities crammed into the system... too bad jack buy our new "insert blank here". End of the day.. unless someone wants to buy new gear once or twice every year... avoid eufy.
@@LifeHackster I've got a HB3 and about a dozen cams/devices myself (S330's, Vid smart lock S330, S230's, S120's, a couple of Indoor cams, but not all on the HB3), and mine have all been working good too; most devices for roughly a year, I believe.
Lol they have been doing this for almost a year. I noticed this when I hooked up the FLC2 pro to the HB3 and it was 1080p. I got rid of all eufy stuff and moved over to reolink. The quicker everyone does this the better
I have all eufy stuff have suggested to it many who have bought, big proponent of them -just bought eufy as Xmas gift for parents but have just been constantly let down with them in the past 2 years. Lots of issues. Even had a car break in 2 cameras missed entirely aside from recording just as they left the yard picking up nothing. Might have to move on from them. They are slipping.
For anyone that says HB3 recording is just a "bonus" and to not expect much from it... I tried using different microSD cards in the E340 floodlight & S350 indoor cam, both are really laggy when trying to seek/review the 24/7 recorded footage. It's totally useless half the time, as seeking around will cause the camera to be non responsive, having to back out & retry again. HB3 24/7 footage review has barely any lag and is much less frustrating to use which makes sense as it has an SSD instead of microSD & a dedicated processor. I wouldn't consider HB3 recordings as a "bonus" feature but more like a fix to the totally broken on camera footage viewing experience. What's the point of having 24/7 recordings in the camera when you have to pull your hair out just to view it?
This is most likely your WiFi connection. Remember when you have micro SD card recordings, the app has to load it from the camera itself while with the homebase, it is inside and you also probably have plugged it in to your network and that is why it has a smoother playback.
@@LifeHackster I thought that could be a reason too but my S350 indoor cam is in the same room as my router, less than 15ft distance and it was still laggy when reviewing 24/7 footage.
Wow, first they don’t communicate to customers on how their data is being used/protected, then now they again aren’t communicating with the customer that advertised features aren’t functional. Glad I only have a Eufy doorbell, and I’ll be looking to replace it sooner rather than later.
I hadn’t noticed the resolution issue but I’m hoping they fix this. I have 2 x E330s and 2 x E340 flood lights connected to my HB3 along with other 2K battery cameras. One of the E340 cameras is always offline as it appears the Homebase can’t handle it. Eufy is looking into it and will hopefully sort it out.
Thank you LifeHackster for your very honest and informative videos/product reviews. I have yet to jump into any home security devices but am getting pressured by my better half to get on the bandwagon and install a video doorbell and/or outdoor camera(s) around the outside of our house. I liked Eufy products but after reading all the negative comments, I'm back to square one trying to decide what brand to go with. So confusing! I really don't want to incur a monthly fee so onboard storage would be the way to go. Anyways, I'll keep researching. Happy Holidays to you!
Thanks for flagging this. Really appreciate it. I only have one Eufy camera and the rest are Ring. Was thinking of getting the HB3, so worth knowing everything that existing users are saying.
I am invested in Eufy products including the HB3. I have 2 Solocam S40s, a SoloCam E40, a 2C, 2 Wall Light Cams, Doorbell t8210, and 3 2k IndoorCams. (2 look out windows and one monitors my garage. They all connected to the HB380 which has a 500GB SSD. Right now the HB3 has 84% available. It does bother me that the resolution is being limited when I have so much storage that it unused. Overall, I am pretty happy with the quality of the recordings, mostly am wondering why.
I almost bought into the promise of the Eufycam 3 but the narrow field of view gave me pause and I’m glad I didn’t. My only experience with Eufy has been the S40 and the person detection constantly thinks my German Shephard is a person, making the notifications useless. Never got an update so I’m not surprised that there are so many outstanding problems with the Homebase. Eufy lies and with no monthly income from you gives them no incentive to improve, they already got your money.
Thanks for the video. I was not aware of that. Honestly, I'm bit disappointed with overall Eufy experience. My Ring doorbell is sending me notification much faster than Eufy camera that is installed earlier on the way. My conclusion is that their notification infrastructure is inferior to Ring infrastructure. The problem with Ring is they are stuck in 1080p and going nowhere.
I have used and will continue to use multiple eufy products. That being said, there is no substitute for POE cameras. Eufy has a lot of niche functionality but their core is weak.
Kuya LH, I have the HB3 and have tested it with a few E330's, S350, S340 Solo & E340 flood and can confirm that they are all set the highest res recordings but are only recording @ 1080P.
I have a S340 connected to my HB3 and its recording in full resolution. I checked all my other cameras and they are full resolution as well. Maybe it is with certain HB3s that this occurs?
Just received my E340 and two S340s from Eufy. Their support is horrible. But I do own their video doorbell and seems to work fine. Ordered the HB3 with a 2TB SSD from Amazon yesterday. Would you recommend using MicroSD Cards in the 3 cameras or using the HM3? Realistically, im not to worried about it not showing up in 3k because i am not going to constantly watch it like a movie. I just need it to record and monitor my house for security reasons and that is it. Thanks.
I purchased the S340 with HB3 and agree the performance was disappointing on two aspects. One being inconsistent recordings where events missed or blurry images while the camera followed a subject. The other drawback being not enough power retention in geographies where natural sunlight is a challenge.
I don't have this issue in Germany. There are two options 1) they've already fixed it 2) they deploy different software packages depending on your region
Thank you for your video, this, unfortunately, is bad news as I just received my E340 floodlight no more than 20 minutes ago from Amazon. I have been having trouble with Eufy automations as when camera, one detect motion, camera two does not always triggered to record as programmed and vice versa. Currently the Eufy E 340 floodlight cam is on sale for one 169.99 on Amazon. Which I purchased yesterday and just received today. Here’s hoping we end the year with a new Eufy video with good news.
I just noticed this when I connected a new indoor cam the other day. I hope they fix this because I have otherwise been enjoying an all-Eufy security setup, but what is the point in buying a 2k/4k camera if you're going to be limited to 1080p. I assumed it has to do with the fact that it can only use 2.4ghz and that there was maybe not enough bandwidth to go around for the full resolution recording with multiple cams. Thanks for bringing attention to this. Edit: My Solocam S340 is recording at 3k, but when I originally connected it, I had the Homebase wired and then unplugged it to get better wifi range. Maybe this only happens if your Homebase is wireless when you set up the new cams.
I'm looking at boxes of e220s, hb3, e340 doorbell, s340s, s100s... And I'm peeved. I read reviews, watched videos, including yours and I don't recall the SD card vs hb3 resolution difference mentioned. Nor has Eufy laid it out, even after their privacy fiasco. I bought in large part because of my previous Anker experience, their reputation and I waited for Black Friday/Cyber Monday pricing. I bought directly from Eufy because they get a few more $$$ by avoiding Amazon's commission. And now it's 12/20 and I have to pay for return shipping and find something else, quick. Or do I bet on Eufy to fix this after their privacy fiasco and now this lack of disclosure? Perhaps not...
I have eufy homebase 2, and one of the eufy 2c camera is always offline, I think that is one of the issues since a lot of people's cameras worked well for 1 or 2 years, and after that, the camera is always offline. Does anyone else have a similar issue?
I just checked my cameras due to your PSA on this. If I download the video from my HB3 that was recorded on a S330 camera, the resolution is at 4k (3840x2160).
Thank you for your informative videos as always. I wonder, you mention it briefly, but did I understand correctly that the recording to the homebase is only on detection of motion and not continuous?
That’s for eufys floodlight cam 2 pro. All their cams that can record 24/7 when setup as standalone recording to their SD card will also able to record 24/7 on the HB3.
This is strange. I have 8 or so cameras including 3 indoor cameras one is the s350. I've gone back and checked my 4k single view and duel view samples. Single view is 3840 / 2160 duel mode is 2304/ 2592. I have them set to continuous recording. Indoor mini and indoor camera only appear to be recording at 1920/ 1080 recording events only.
I wonderif I was doing something wrong:/ i recently just got the Hb3, e220 and e 340, and they are recording in 1080 like you said. I also can't get the motion detection to behave correctly and to STOP tracking cars passing in front of my house. I have correctly set activity zones. And turned down the motion sensitivity. Overall, I am not impressed with this system and pausing my planned expansion until they sort this out. As of right now, Im pretty much labeling it FALSE ADVERTISING.
My newly purchase S340 has a great live picture... but any video recored on the Homebase 3 is no where near the same quality.. Had an instance just last night where the Mail Boxes were robbed on our street and the camera captured the van leaving the scene (early morning light B&W video) but quality so low its hard to make out details of the van it looked like the low quality video of years past!... I thought I had a higher quality system than I did have with the very old Nest Outdoor Cam ?? I'm very disappointed!! Though I do love the live picture... Just incase Eufy support looks at these I wish they would update their app to be quicker at seeing the live picture and place buttons on Camera live screen to make it faster to get to preset positions... instead of having to jump to preferences/presets.... lot of extra steps when in a hurry to see something...
Can I start and stop the e340 recoring on my own. I want to record things outside my door at any given time. They might not always be moving to set off the motion detector
Where do you find the “properties” so I can See what my HB3 is recording. Also a little advice, my s330 is situated about 7’ off the ground, however I am on a hill it Durant pick up cars entering my cul de sac, my hits is about 25’ from the curve. Any ideas? Also the s330 how far does it pick up movement and could i possibly get license plate numbers? I have 7 cameras using the HB3. Thanks for your information
You have to download the footage to your phone and you can click info from your phone's album. I download the footage to my PC and right click properties is what you will see in the snapshots that I do in my videos. The S330 are the battery powered Eufy Cam 3's right..if that's the case, it will usually detect a person at 25-30 feet probably a bit farther with cars. As to plates, there are a lot of factors involve like angle, time of day and distance that it is not guaranteed to read plates.
Mmm... Interesting, but not a deal breaker. With 4 cameras saving to the hub I hadn't noticed. Yes a bit disappointed. But for me the product's are working well and helping keep my property and family safer. For catching the coming and goings of people and pets they're doing a good job. How many people really noticed? Now thats it's been highlighted I'm sure it will be sorted in time and still no one will really notice for a while... Maybe when I make the movie about my family's life it and need such important footage as carrying in the shopping will be come an issue. Like me most people view on the phone or tablet for which the footage is good enough. But thanks for the info LH. Seasons Greetings to you and yours.
My base station seems to have stopped listing the events. I still get alerts on my phone though. I am not sure, but I did trigger a camera theft alert a few days ago as I was repositioning a camera mount. Any ideas or solutions?
Why do they just make white units when they get so dirty after so many years in with outside pollution and I can’t understand why today’s world the technology has been progressed to where you can actually use full resolution doesn’t make sense. I like the part that the doorbell has the lights on and that’s really cool.
I was thinking of purchasing the Eufycam 2CPro 2K camera kit. Would what you’re talking about have the same issue with the accompanying base? Will it only record to the base 1080p when in fact the cams take 2K video? Thanks for the heads up.
Eufy does not seem very responsible about their claims. There is a big disconnect between their website and reality even when it comes to ordering. After talking with customer service -- on their top banner and their member page it states "FREE SAME DAY SHIPPING". He wasn't aware of these website changes and he said Eufy wasn't communicating well from up top to them as well. He said they used Amazon for logistics so I should expect how long it takes to ship from Amazon. I was told on Monday it would ship the same day if it was ordered by 1PM. So I did that. Both orders shipped Tuesday. I sent them an email showing screenshots of their claim on their website. They emailed me back without addressing anything. Once I contacted support again (this time just chat and not video chat), they said shipping takes 3-7 days and basically told me to deal with it. The second support person Marion was unhelpful. I ordered from Eufy direct thinking it would ship right away based on my conversation with Mikey. Who didn't say it explicitly but it seems the company doesn't communicate with their employees very well. The order process is souring me and considering canceling the whole order.
I don't appear to be having this problem with the s340 and HB3. The video resolution is showing as 2304x2592 in any saved video files that I have downloaded to my phone. Maybe I am missing something? I am recording in dual format if that matters.
I have the Smartdrop delivery box and can not get it connected to the home base 3. It says I need to place it near the home base 3 to connect. It is 10 feet away and bolted down so isn't going to happen. I noticed you said the camera also needs to be close to home base which would be easier, but why?
would you agree that a safe camera system should record on the cloud? if somebody breaks in and breaks, destroys, or removes the security camera with a local SD card, there will be no footage at all....am i thinking about this correctly?
Honestly isn't this something that was worth delaying the reviews of Eufys latest offerings for, so that you could cover this in the reviews - and the recent Reolink comparison? I mean this makes your reviews look like Eufy infomercials given that you knew about the issue but went ahead and pushed out a "review" anyway. People have made their purchases based on those reviews, only to see you going deeper now. Loss of integrity and trust there. Also no hope for a quick fix from Eufy - their track record for software fixes is poor at best. Perhaps take down your original reviews and re-shoot them with this information? Save people wasting their money. I say this as an owner of 2 Eufy Solocams, and was about to order the Homebase 3, as well as the E340 Solocam
Please note that homebase recordings are just an added feature and the cameras are still recording their advertised resolutions either via the SD card or their built in storage. The Reolink trackmix battery always record to their SD card and not even to their NVR. The comparison video I made is still valid. I’m comparing cameras performance anyways and not their extra features.
Not sure I agree because the HB3 is a completely separate product and the camera stands on its own as an independent product and solution. That being said, disclosure is always best, and if there are known incompatibilities (or known compatibilities) that was tested, it would be nice to hear that in the review of the camera. I won't go so far as saying that LifeHacker comes off as a shill, but disclosure is paramount in independent reviews. We (as viewers) should also know that sponsored content should always be approached with caution. Lifehackster makes it abundantly clear when the content is sponsored or not - and its the viewer's role to judge content integrity based on those disclosures. Its a crappy world all the way around, but sponsored content is what allows independent reviewers and creators hands on the actual product for impressions - without it we'd be stuck with reading marketing material or waiting for someone to be brave or rich enough to buy all the products themselves to review.
I have a different issue . I put an expanded HD in HB3 and every time it reaches 88% available memory I get the message to format my hd and when I look at the app it says format hd error . I formatted more than 20 times and it still does it . I just took the expanded HD out . Could it be the kind I’m using ? I got a Toshiba 2.5 inch sata data ??
Might consider a whole different brand. Starting to wish I did. My first system was great was so thrilled then upgraded to new cameras who FJ meant I had to get home base 3, which was a bummer. It’s been rough going since and feel like eufy lost their way a bit.
This isn't an 'issue', it's just blatant false advertising. Standard practice for Eufy, nothing but absolute regret investing in their trash eco-system.
For the price these cameras have too many problems. Looks they are trying to figure it out as they go. I will wait until they know what they are doing before I buy these cameras. I have been looking to upgrade my current system but at this price point and the amount of problems I will be sticking with my old EZVIZ wired system.
I have just got this camera...and I'm recording to the sd card.. but still it won't let me select 3k recording. it's totally greyed out. it's got great wifi signal and the sd card is the top spec too. what's going on
