Eunji (APINK) vs Taeyeon (SNSD) - Vocal Battle (with commentary) 

I totally agree! when taeyeon is at her best, shes an absolute beast and arguably outperforms eunji. However, Eunji's real strength lies in her consistency. You can ALWAYS rely on Eunji to perform excellent and solid live vocals, and because of that I think she is a slightly better vocalist than taeyeon. Taeyeon's belting/mxing technique is really full and chest-heavy, but bc of this, it causes inconsistentcies and an unsustainable heaviness in the upper register. However, Eunji's method of singing allows her to belt with MUCH more ease and efficiency. Its a lot healthier on her voice and although she loses some power or fullness with her lighter/headier approach, i think she more than makes up for it with those suuuuper rich and smooth lows (i mean its hard to come by such a strong and warm lower register in a female kpop vocalist - especially considering she's a soprano, but is often able to comfortably sing in the lower range of a mezzo).

sometimes when i hear singers really pushing their voices to sing lower it makes me (for lack of a better word) uncomfortable as a listener so hearing eunji’s ease in the lower register is j so refreshing and soothing even.

Eunji might be slightly better and more consistent, Taeyeon is just iconic. When two singers have almost equal skills, I usually go to however singer has the better discography and music.

I always love Eunji technique her ease and comfort make her one of the best vocalists of her generation, Taeyeon is good but I have never liked the pushy technique that SM teaches their idols

I think there are a few Korean female singers that have more technical skill but what gravitates me toward Taeyeon as my favoite singer in kpop and in general is her agility, timbre, and skill set allows her that freedom to be ambitious and explore different genres in the discography and do it well. Eunji though is terribly underrated I don’t think she’s released a bad song yet and doesn’t get enough credited for it.

I love Taeyeon's vowel shaping, vocal closure, and her mid-belt where she takes the spotlight.

I'm just a little biased for Eunji so she's always the winner for me, but I will say that Taeyeon has solid vocals. Her belts are strong and those higher notes were so beautiful and light. Honestly, for vocal agility, I would say that they are both relatively equal (of what I've heard from Taeyeon) but to Eunji's disadvantage, Apink's songs are usually filled more with straight tones and notes rather than runs or anything super crazy so you won't catch her full ability there. It's more so in her covers, and I think her cover of Beyonce's 'Listen' showcases some of her vocal agility. She killed that song 😌

Eunjis vocal technique is so ingrained its effortless. Taeyeon learned more proper singing at a later age so there is a bit more effort in some of the higher notes but as you said she is more familiar with doing runs while Eunjis runs are a bit sloppy. They have different singing styles but Eunji can get more immersed in the song since there is less going on in her head on making sure to utilize the voice properly. If only they could sing low notes like Ailee does.

Chest resonance will always be superior-taeyeon is so underrated for those belts! Just magic 😍

I think Eunji is more stable but I prefer and enjoy Taeyeon's vocal tone more. When Taeyeon sings I feel as if her voice is hugging me .

And my thoughts about Lily's vocal in her cover is that she showcased more sustained G5s that are supported with her A5s at peak that are also supported even tho I have a feeling that she kinda bit pushed but yeah it's her usual. I disagree on Taeyeon's E5. I'm pretty sure she had at least 2 during her Signal concert that sounded as good or even better if I remember correctly. It's crazy to me that Taeyeon can sound better than others who are leaps above her when she's belting in her midrange and is in her 'beast mode'. I think there she has some of the roundest vowels, brightness and forward placement. The sound doesn't tend to get muffled which happens with even superior vocalists like Ailee. That being said her lower register could be improved as well as her headvoice. Her mixing in her upper belts have gotten a lot better because chesty Taeyeon in her early days would not be able to sing a song like Vanilla or do the bridge of Voice. She would be struggling with all of the weight she used to bring up. She still needs to take up less weight the higher she goes though.
