Euro NCAP Crash & Safety Tests of Dacia Spring 2021 

Those kids have grown quite a bit since I last saw them…

I gotta say 1 star in 2021 looks quite good. A couple years back this is how a 5-star test crashes looked like.

The colision avoidance works. The passangers are not squized inside, aribags work. Seem to be a good car !

Well, comparing with the cars we happily drove 20 years ago, this does not look too bad actually.

I drove this car several times for a day at my local Renault dealer and its really fun to drive. Speeds up from zero pretty fast, goes up to 125 Km/h, so engough for comfy Autobahn commute, has good heating and AC, back up camera, power windows, mirrors and locking and has an range of about 180 Km, depends on how you drive it. Obviously when you turn on the heating all the time, its not that much. The build quality is what you expect from a chinese made car, but it does its work. I would definitely buy it for 12000 Euro as a secondary car for city driving. Enough space for 4 adults and a some luggage.

Now compare that with what the crash of the chinese version had, seems like the company did a great job at making it safer despite being a very small budget car....

1 star insinuates that this is a dangerous car. I appreciate standards are changing but maybe the grading system needs reviewing too. After watching this video, as a potential buyer, I do not think the Dacia Spring is an unsafe car.

I don't understand the 1 star rating. Even that pole/tree to the side test looked fine. It even has AEB which worked beatifully. I really don't know why it's rated so low.

From tests, it looks like a 3 star car but there will be always room for improvments (the only weakness are the basic things that are very cheap or the lack of basic stuff)

Vreau sa va impartasesc experienta mea cu Dacia Spring. Am primit-o in decembrie ! Am fost rugat de dealer sa o platesc integral in noiembrie ca aveau "targhet". M-am bucurat ca un copil... 200 km, fatidici, cand am fost lovit de o masina germana. Am crezut ca sunt pe lumea cealalta cand o "domna" a inceput sa vorbeasca cu mine, dupa socul loviturii. Masina, a sunat singura la 112 !!! EXTRAORDINAR !!! Eu, victima. Masina nemteasca, agresorul. Masina nemteasca daune 0, Dacia Spring, am estimat eu, dauna totala. Daca ar fi fost facuta din carton, s-ar fi prezentat mai bine la interactiunea cu VW. Dar totul e bine cand nimeni nu moare asa cum se intampla prin alte colturi ale lumii. Viata si-a urmat cursul, masina a ajuns in reprezentanta Dacia cu promisiunea ca va fi reparata. Asta inainte de sarbatoare nasterii domnului de anul trecut (nu am relatii stranse cu domnul, dar am folosit pretextul pentru a localiza actiunea in timp). A trecut covidul, a venit razboiul iar masina mea tot in REPREZENTANTA DACIA fara sa dea nici un semn de viata pe aplicatie. Dupa 3 luni de asteptare ascetica am considerat ca este momentul sa intervin fulgerator. M-am prezentat usor ciufulit la REPREZENTANTA DACIA revendicandu-mi masina. Rasete. Asta este tot ce am putut obtine. Piesele de schimb necesare nici macar nu au CODURI pentru a putea fi comandate. Am plecat trist caci masina mea de 18.000!!! euro nu poate fi cu mine. Poate intr-o viata viitoare, dupa ce va fi topita, cand va renaste intr-un VW vom fi din nou impreuna. Nu stii ce-ti poate oferi karma

Safer than the ZOE. I wasn't expecting that spring will have only 1 Star as Its the most unsafe EV Crossover. Hence why it's the cheapest EV in europe but the thing is it keeps getting popular across Europe 😢

This would have been 4 or 5 stars 10 years ago. Structurally it's solid, it's just that the airbag tuning and seat belt tuning aren't the best so forces are quite high and sudden. These new star systems are overly dramatic.

I think this car would sell well if it came to Britain. Unfortunately it’s not for sale in Britain, but for sale in mainland Europe.

The car actually looks very sturdy and safe! For city/commuting, even a small trip, this looks really good 👍

The Fiat Panda III had 4 stars in 2011. (82% for adults) And this same Fiat Panda III already had only 0 star (45% for adults) in 2018! The Spring manages to make 1 star ( 49% for adults) with a much more severe crash test than in 2018. This is a good result for a low-cost minicar that will be used mostly in the city. 😜

If this one star and ZOE zero stars then I have no idea what is 5* today. Ejector seat with a parachute? This seems like a very solid car with a lot of airbags.

There’s so much you can do to spruce up an India-developed vehicle. Even the structural reinforcements of the Brazilian variant weren’t enough (I suggest you go check on the LatinNCAP test of the Renault Kwid)

If you usually drive a motorbike this car is the safest thing ever made.

I still don’t understand why it received just 32% in Assist Systems, since it worked perfectly well. And I don’t even understand the one star, since the crumple zone worked, airbags deployed, there was no severe A-pillar damadge, nor steering wheel or pedals hitting the driver.

Renault Kwid as we know it in the South, has come a long way, from not having an airbag, not bad

The Renault Zoe and this Dacia Spring apparently were the worst of the most recent tests for 2021... the AEP was nice though...

I don't understand why they give it 1 star. Frontal deformation is ok, interior is intact, occupant kinematic is good, airbag absortion seems ok, side curtain airbag looks good, displacement ok, AEB looks good to....

Were they expecting the car to fly or why such a low score? Seems pretty robust to me.

I mean just like 10 years ago a one start car would mean that the roof would cave in and the A-pillar completely collapse. So this really doesn't look that bad at all.

Only one star, but that’s not surprising because Dacias are cheap, and adding safety kit is gonna add to the cost of the car.

This just shows you how bad NCAP ratings have become at presenting safety. How can this get 1 star? The methodology is clearly broken.

Funny how this car cost £6046.75 OTR in India (RHD) as Tata Nexon, and in China (LHD) as Renault K-ZE, they bring to Europe and sell it for £22,500 claiming it is "Additional" Euro Ncap safety which adds to the cost. Where have they spent the £16,453.24? May as well import three Tata Nexons, you would have change and same chance of survival.

Not bad. The passenger compartment remains intact in the frontal crash, and brake assist work well. That's the most important.

Surely the majority of accidents are vehicle to vehicle. Why are all the tests done hitting or being hit by solid objects? The thing hitting the car should have deformation zones as well.

Yup, i already predicted that...

So it is a very safe car then. Certainly looks as safe as it can be. Not much you can do about side impacts but head on the passenger Shell stayed in one piece so doors could open and passengers get or be taken out which in my mind is good. Just as good as the first 5 star NCAP car in 2001 the Renault Laguna or any cars after it. I would have no problem being a passenger or a driver in this Dacia.

I think you are putting too much value in active safety system. I believe that 20% at most should be the active safety systems, the rest is up to the chasis, driver and various passive safety systems, which this car has and I don't see any huge problem with how it performs.

Seeing 1 start I was expecting to see the car completely wrecked! But there is certainly a reason for not having more stars... i just wonder how Renault, being the owner of Dacia and having much safer cars, allowed the Spring to go out to the market with only 1 star! Many people won't buy it because of that! If it had 3 stars I would buy it but 1 star... hell no!

Wouldn’t bother me in the slightest. We seem obsessed with reducing risks to zero. What happens if you’re hit from behind at speed? None of the these cars are tested for that. 🤷‍♂️

Not the same for the Renault Kwid, the brazilian version of this car, here we do not have airbags on the sides, only for the driver and the passenger

I really appreciate all the work NCAP does but que stars issue MUST be addressed. This car has okay safety. Much better than some cars of old that if we check the archives have very good ratings. And yet, if I'm in the market for a car and I compare this car's rating versus an old car's one the old one will look much better. THIS IS A PROBLEM!! I don't care that this has one 2021 stars and the other has 4 2007 stars. Like what does that even mean? Create a point system. Do something about it. Because the way you are presenting your results is misleading at best. The constant introduction of new technology is only going to make the scoring issue even worse, with old results being less and less significant. So it's about time it gets fixed. Regards

Why don't you try crash speed above 60 km/h? Cause that's how people drive in Romania, way above the speed limit.

90% of the comments: COMPARED TO A CAR FROM 1885 this car should not get such bad rating. (Probably commented using a Smartphone not older than 5 years)

It looses points because the new regulations count electronic aids, witch the dacia is last of his kind to not have all the electric assistance. So without that new regulations it would have been better
