Euro NCAP has tested the Aixam Crossover GTR in front and side impact at 50km/h to get a picture of the safety level of this heavy quadricycle. The vehicle performed very poorly and showed serious risks of life threatening injuries.
To all the people dissing this. These microcars or "quadricycles" aren't designed to pass ncap (no requirement). They don't have airbags as they are built to a weight limit of 400kg to fit into the category of microcar. These are city cars, not track day monsters or motorway mile-munchers.
I'm not surprised. These are cars that in many EU countries can be driven from the age of 15 without a driving license, but there are restrictions, such as speed, engine size and weight. The weight limit and engine size poses a number of problems. 1 In order for the car to weigh as little as possible, you have to use expensive materials such as aluminum and fiberglass, this means that the price goes up, which means that they are saving on other things such as safety. 2 to build in safefty, means that the car will weigh more. 3 as the engine power is limited, extra weight will mean a large loss for the car's performance. In other words, it would be much better to only have speed limits and not focus so much on the car's weight and engine size. This would make it much easier to manufacture a safer car, but also make the car much cheaper, probably even benefit the environment as more environmentally friendly materials could have been chosen and that electricity operation would have been easier to apply.
rayman1113 moped cars are actually great you can drive one in traffic in finland when u turn 15. you have to take a test and 4 lessons 2 hours each. most of the finnish teenagers drive mopeds but this is safer and warmer in the finnish winter conditions, if you have the right tires it is a lot safer because of the slippery, ice-covered roads in finland. they apparently arent made for crashing tho😂 and they're just plastic.
rayman1113 im fifteen by the way and i had one of these but a couple of days my best friend accidentaly flattened it with a tractors forestvans arm that weights 5 tons when the whole van felt over. i am still fucking pissed 😂

you people should stop complaining about this car. in my country you can drive this car as soon as you pass 15 years mark. at the same age you can drive a low-powered motorcycle (50cm3) So, i think that this car is MUCH safer than a regular motorcycle. you have 4 wheels, and even a seatbelt, compared to what? motorcycle is equal to 0 stars rating. its just my opinion and ofc sorry for mistakes, just learning english
estXcrew But it's a MOPED car. It's safer than a moped. But it's not as safe as a normal car. It's a moped with the features of a car. It has a plastic hull. It's much safer now than the first versions and ideas of moped cars. There were mopeds with "tents" around. now you have heating, windows, radio and a trunk. I mean... come on, that's really nice.

Yes because this type of vehicles can be driven from 16 years old, and airbags have to adjust them to the weight of the driver, but they can’t adjust themselves if the driver is too light, such as some 16 years old people

In all the european countries the light quadricycles are limited to 45 kph, ans the heavy quadricycles limited to 90 kph. Where do you live? If you are french we may talk in this language that will be easier
There isn’y airbag because this car is built to be driven with the B1 license, so for 16 years old. An airbag could make bigger damages than airbag free.
What's safer, a 15yo in this or on a 50cc scooter or trail bike. If it was my kid and he didn't give me the choice, I'd prefer this as I know what I did on a trail bike at 15yo and I don't think he'd survive. They're every where in France, and sound like they're powered by a Briggs and statton or Honda stationary engine.
M8 just buy a car! Even a second hand car is way better! Way safer to have a 15year old driving a 2014 car rather that pile of junk! This car has all the inconvenience of a car can't go trough traffic, etc, But the safety of a moped! And it cost same price to buy a 5 star car and with 3 times the hp ! Not worth it
@@lcpd26 Sounds great and all, but there is one issue to your solution. A 15 year old is legally not allowed to drive a car. Buy one if you have the money to spend and need a vehicle that you can use all year long, but aren't 18 years old yet or just simply don't have a B-category drivers license. Yes, it's larger than a standard moped with a similar power output but at least you have a roof, a heater and depending on the model you buy, a decently sized luggage compartment.
Just get a UTV it's a safer option. UTW's are usually built with metal and also UTV's Tend to have roll cages. Also you are allowed to drive 60km/h instead of 45km/h
@@tobbe5189 If you pay 20k for one of these you are to blame for that, new ones are around 12 to 14k €, ofc with extra options you can live without the price goes up. Used ones can be cheaper, even of the same generation

If you get in accident is same as your on scooter, airbag don’t mean nothing, is better then scooter because you relax on sit and get warmer in rain 🌧 you don’t get wet, all that is true but not safety☹️
No airbag in the list of options. It's better to buy a Smart, an Aygo other city car with driving licence. There is several nondriving licence car manufacturers in France because the driving test is difficult
because you could drive in early age as well... those slow cars were my dreams when I was a 14 years old willing to drive... when I actually needed... not when I finally got driving at 20

What kind of a fucking idiot would buy this when you could get a slightly used Fiesta with airbags and also better in every other way for the same money. No front airbag is unforgivable, may as well ride a motorcycle.

The purpose of this car, is to provide an alternative to using a moped or motorcycle. for it to qualify as a quadracycle in it's intended market it needs to be light.
