Update January 2023: Euro NCAP awarded the 2022 Best in Class Small Off-Road to Tesla Model Y.
Learn more about the Best in Class cars: www.euroncap.com/en/ratings-r...
Euro NCAP January 2023 Press release www.euroncap.com/en/press-med...
Euro NCAP performs a series of crash and safety tests on car models:
- a frontal impact test, 50% of the width of the car is striking an oncoming deformable barrier, also travelling at 50 km/h
- a frontal impact test, the car impacts a rigid full width barrier
- a side impact test, a mobile deformable barrier impacts the driver's door and the robustness of the centre airbag is evaluated
- a pole test, the tested car is propelled sideways into a rigid pole.
A series of pedestrian tests are conducted with different impactors, adult and child head form, lower and upper leg form and whiplash tests are performed on a sled as well as AEB pedestrian and cyclist tests.
Active safety is tested based on the car’s equipment: autonomous emergency braking car-to-car scenarios, occupant status monitoring (including seatbelt reminders), lane support and speed assistance technologies.

This is the highest percentage for adult occupant protection since Euro NCAP changed its test for 2020 onwards. Before that, there was only ever 2 Mazdas, 2 Volvos, an Alfa (!) and the Model X that received more than 97% (in easier test setups) from Euro NCAP.

@@djtaylorutube oooh, very nice! We didn't actually consider one at all outside a model 3 standard range we test drove late last year. About 4 weeks ago I got the chance to take delivery of standard range RWD model Y if I wanted one in a few weeks. My partner was unhappy with his 2022 XC60. So we thought "why not?". It arrived 12:30pm Monday just passed. We'd been driving it for everything since then then. We'd parked up our 2018 VW Arteon for those three days until last night. We got in and everything felt dated. My partner mentioned how much he thought it felt like he was stepping back into a car from the early 2000s in comparison. Ha! We charged it at a charger and cost us $7.51. The following 2 nights I charged it at home and it was $4.00 and then $4.14. All up we've done about 600ish Kilometers for $16! It would have cost $97 to do the same in our Arteon. I don't really care for the planet saving aspect of things, since there's a lot to compare. But when savings like that are presented it's hard to pass up!
@djtaylorutube
@djtaylorutube Год назад
@@asum307 Yes it's interesting, I'm no Tesla fanboy, in fact we tried a Kia EV6 (love the styling but banged my head on the low rear roofline getting in the back and the headrest kept bumping the back of my head.) Delivery was also LONG. Tried the Hyundai ioniq 5, it just didn't inspire and we said we should at least try a Tesla 3. Didn't get on with that at all, our need is for hatchback, grandchildren etc. I couldn't get my feet under the front seats when sitting in the back and it was just a saloon car, didn't solve any problems. We waited and then one day thought we'd take a look at the Model Y and although it's just a taller Model 3, the problems that previously blocked is weren't there. My other reasons for going Tesla though was that I factored in Tesla development level Vs others who are still catching up, they roll out OTA update whereas Kia EV6, you got what you got unless the garage does any updates and finally, I give charging infrastructure to Tesla and we'd previously had a Nissan Leaf and gave up with the idea of public charging. Always spare capacity at Tesla superchargers when we see them. Looking forward to it, it has been quite a wait for this one too. Glad you're enjoying yours 😊

In the case that a driver doesn't see a pedestrian coming, this is useful though

If the driver can see out of the windshield, so will the car. Tesla's have automatic preconditioning, so you'll never get into an iced up car. I'm just wondering how rear pedestrian or cross traffic collision prevention works when that rear camera on the trunk lid is dirty.

Probably better than my Jeep that warns me that the safety systems are offline because the side radar for cross traffic is obscured. It would be the same or worse with LIDAR. it's a shame it doesn't apply to Tesla Model Y RWD (or SR)
@lukewdk2482
@lukewdk2482 Год назад
Why does it only apply to the performance and long range? Everything safety-wise should be identical for the RWD too. Only difference is different battery chemistry and no fog lights on the RWD model Y as far as I know. Could be wrong of course.

@lukewdk2482
@lukewdk2482 Год назад
@@magnuslarsson337 Both battery packs are lithium ion. The LFP pack does weigh more than the long range pack (if both packs were the same kWh) but LFP in the Y is only approx. 60kwh. The long range is about 75kwh, so difference in weight is not much. The long range Y weighs approx. 1997kg and the RWD is approx. 1929kg. The Berlin made Y (as far as I know this can be the P and LR) has front and rear castings but I think the Shanghai made Ys have this now as well. If not, then just the rear casting. I doubt there is a meaningful difference in the safety of the RWD. Euro NCAP states that the test results are for ‘all model Y variants’.
