@@doc7austin I`m sorry. I posted my comment without checking your profile. I though you`re Polish and you used the word intentionally, as a joke. What you saw was indeed a Turbokibel. Now, ”kibel” in Polish is a humorous or pejorative word for a toilet or a slop bucket. So „kibel” is like the crapper, the john, the privy, the loo. Don`t ask me why the Polish railwaymen and train enthusiasts gave this nickname to several series of Polish electric multiple unit trains, consisting of 3 or 4 carriages ("cars" in Am. E.). 😊 There are also other nicknames for these unit trains (for example, "ortopeda", or "Orthopedist", for an old version with very uncomfortable plastic seats). The official names, however, are EN57, EN71 etc. They were produced since early 1960s till early 1980s. A few thousand of these trains were built, many are still in operation on suburban or local lines, after being thoroughly modernised. Those that received the largest upgrades were given the nickname” „turbokibel” („supercrapper”) to differentiate them from the old good "kibel"/„crapper”. :) So yes, your informer was correct, buy I bet he wasn't a PR specialist from the train operator. :)

@@doc7austin As Pawel stated word "Kibel" is a slang for Toilet. And in fact old EN57 are called Kibel and modernized EN57 are called Turbo Kibel. There is a story to how the EN57 acquired his nickname tho. One version says that during the tests of prototype all electrical devices were mounted below the floor but due to bad weather conditions there were malfunction a lot, so the design team decided to eliminate the toilet in the middle compartment and create electric section there. Second story says that due to faulty design of pneumatic system and it close location to toilets the pneumatic lines got contaminated with waste from toilets very often so when the doors were opened (there were pneumatic in the original versions) they would spray all those "wonderful scents" around the whole train...

Very impressive. It's good to see a restaurant car on European trains. Sadly, many have gone, but the extra joy of long-distance/overnight rail travel is to be able to have a proper meal, not just snacks and sandwiches.

Indeed, it makes it a special experience that is more attractive. Travelling by train is relaxing. Not time pressing. Spotting feeling of being underway. Special cosiness on a train. Daytrains as well. Make it with your friends, take top picknick basket, buy stuff in the stations or on the train, good music, enjoy the landscape, the rest...

@@doc7austin Poland currently operates many cross-border trains to/from Ukraine. The main hub is Przemyśl, where platforms with both 1435 and 1520 mm tracks are used. Recently new connections have been introduced, such as a direct cars between Przemyśl and Kharkiv, as well as a new set of supportive coaches for Kiev Express. There is currently undergoing maintenance for restoring railway link between Warsaw and Lviv. The solution for breaking gauge will be similar to the one used in a communication to/from Vilnius (that is: the Polish PKP Intercity coaches to Rawa Ruska on 1435 mm track and there door-to-door simple change to the waiting Ukrainian UZ coaches to Lviv on 1520 mm). We invite you to test new connections! :)

Pierogi ruskie are not "dumplings with potato filling" but "with quark and potato filling". In fact the better quark to potato ratio the better the dumplings. Another important ingredient is fried onion. I say this in case anyone thinks that in Poland we eat dough with only potatoes. 🤣 The video is great. I have never travelled this route, however I can see that there is really comfortable and clean train. :-)

As a child I used to go to Międzywodzie every summer with my grandparents, and this included a travel by night train from Warsaw to Świnoujście (Międzyzdroje are technically closer but we preferred to go to the end for some reasons). It is a shorter route (first part is something like Warszawa-Kutno-Konin-Poznań , and from there probably the same, about 630km altogether) , but I see that the general feeling was similar. I loved the train ride part of the holiday and I was excited about observing all the details of the train, climbing the top bed by ladder, etc.

Thanks for nice video. Brings back childhood memories, as when I was a child, I travelled with my family in sleeping cars for vacation at the sea (but on a slightly different route, from Kraków to Kołobrzeg, not to Świnoujście). Since then I wasn't in a sleeping car anymore. Fun fact: at those times (I don't know exactly when it did change, but I see from your video that it did) sleeping cars were - for safety reasons - shut off from the rest of the train; the doors between the sleeping car and the other cars were locked, and you couldn't walk eg. to restaurant car (of course also the passengers from other cars couldn't walk into the sleeping car - that was the main reason why the doors were locked). If you wanted food from the restaurant car, you had to ask the sleeping car conductor, and he would bring it to you. He also had a small kitchen in his compartment, so if you wanted eg. tea or coffee, he was preparing it right away, didn't have to go to restaurant car for it. Another fun fact: at the beginning of the video, at 3:22, you can see the famous monument of Dżok the dog. It's related to events from 1991. Dżok's owner was walking his dog at a nearby big roundabout, on the other side of the river, when he suddenly had a heart attack. An ambulance took the man to a hospital, but they couldn't rescue him and he died. And Dżok stayed at the place waiting for his owner for multiple weeks, thus becoming famous in Kraków and even in whole Poland as the story was in the news. After few weeks he finally gave up and allowed some old lady to take him home. But Dżok's life ended tragically, as his new owner lived close to train tracks and one day Dżok was run over by a train.

Before the war (up to February 2022) there were a couple of railcars that started even earlier than Przemyśl - in Ukraine (in the old Polish city called Lwów - ukr. Львів). They were also sleeping cars. Even though the Ukrainian railway track are of wider spread than the ones in the western part of Europe (including Poland) there is a "normal" (European) railway to Lwów. There is also a single wide railway track (Russian type) from Lwów to Przemyśl. This wide track is/was the only way for Ukrainian refuges to cross the Polish-Ukrainian border via train in the time of the current war. Since there is no flights to and from Ukraine their railway company is the primary way to travel across the country (and beyond) and they are doing a great job. There are several open ways to cross the border as pedestrians and/or using a car. The main one being the Medyka/Szechynie (ukr. Шегині) border crossing.

I wish we had a trans EU train, from the baltics, through Poland, Germany, Belgium, France, Spain until Lisbon in Portugal. How cool would that be?

Hi just to make it straight. "Koleje malopolskie" does not commutes to trzebinia yet. All theese "malopolska" trains seen in Trzebinia are owed by malopolska but all lent to polregio. Cheers

I think you missed the best part, Świnoujście to Świnoujście Port, which are (via Wikipedia) 570m apart, so basiclly you can be quicker walking than train.

which end station will this train serve at Świnoujście? as Świnoujście Central is on the "German" side and only served by DB trains, this must be on the east side of Świnoujście?
