"The Rescue of Jessica Buchanan" (uploaded 10 years ago by CBS News) is a 15 minute segment of the "60 Minutes" news series. It may be the most compelling version of this story because Jessica recounts her ordeal in her own words. Definitely worth a look.

I really recommend this one as well. What you watched is the more military view of what happened. The CBS version I have seen other react to as well does a great job of portraying her viewpoint.

Yes! That perspective, being able to hear her description is a different feeling. It's well worth the watch even if you don't do a reaction to it. I do recommend a reaction to it though. I agree, this was a different description of what happened than Jessica herself recalled on the 60 minutes version. Jessica said the pirates were dead before they knew what happened. Gotta watch the 60 mins one Andrea, even if it's on your own.

As a former retired US Marine who served 21 years as an infantry officer with 3 years in combat, I spent 15 years aa an independent consultant supporting Military technology programs for the doctorate level developers who knew nothing about military command and control, tactics, operations or their technology needs. My job was to provide them with insights that would allow them to develop useful technologies. I was also tasked to train military units on the new technologies and to support them on military exercises around the world. In the process, i worked with the Army Special Forces, Navy (blue water SEALs), Army Rangers, Delta Force, Task Force 160, and SEAL Team 6. I can tell you they are all the best in the world although some countries special forces come close or are virtually equal to our Tier One forces. The kinds of scenarios that Delta Force and SEAL Team 6 train for would blow your mind. They are some of the most complex scenarios you could possibly imagine. I know because I supported some of them on their exercises. And I have had friends retired from Delta Force and SEAL Team tell me about now unclassified missions that would make you think they were so unbelievable that you would think that they were fictional stories. It doesn't surprise me that SEAL Team 6 rescue of Jessica would take extraordinary risks to save her. Delta Force and SEAL Team 6 do that on almost every mission. But I've also seen documentaries of other nations special forces and I can tell you that they are very very good. I just want to emphasize what "Paul" the Danish relief worker who was capture with Jessica said after he was rescued. He said something like "the luckiest day in my life was that I was captured with an American." That says it all about how the US will try to rescue its hostages. There is no doubt in my mind that the US elite forces are in Israel today trying to rescue the Hamas hostages. If they find where the hostages are, Hamas is in big trouble because US elite special forces will sacrifice their lives to rescue the hostages. You can bank on that.

Jessica said that she never saw any of their faces and never heard any of their names. Once she was safely in the air and it was confirmed she was safe, the guys left, and she never saw them again until a couple of them retired and were allowed to meet her.

Yeah a thing that bother me about this video is how right they said that soon the pirates would find out what that means to kidnap an American… they immediately follow it up with “3 months later and Jessica was still being help captive. Good news, they were alive… Bad news, negotiations were slow and her captures even refused an offer of 1.5 million dollars.” which sorta implies it seem like the U.S. government was actually entertaining negotiations, let alone offering them 1.5 million USD. Which isn’t the case at all… it was either her family or a private company for were negotiating with them/offered them 1.5 million USD. The government had no involvement with any of that, they were working behind the scenes to find her location but the pirates were continuously on the move, which I’m sure is why it took 3 moths before they were able to go and rescue her. (Which the video not going into why it took 3 months, in addition to them making it seem like the US were involved in the negotiations… makes it seem as if that’s all they were doing for an entire 3 months… which would’ve technically meant they’d have already rescued her if the pirates agreed on the 1.5 million offer… aka they had the capabilities to go get her but just weren’t doing it for whatever reason.)

No... Humans are a sentient and intelligent species, any members or groups that choose to be stupid are inherently anti-human. The intentionally r-tarded "people" of this world are no better than hairless monkeys that are ready and willing to attack anyone/everyone on nothing more than animal instinct. Any homosapien that refuses to act human is by all accounts a wild animal, and is a constant threat to humanity.(and before you cry racism, this has nothing to do with color and everything to do with intelligence or lack thereof)

DEVGRU is amazing (Development Group). Literally the best of the best SEALs. But to be honest, Every US Special Force is AMAZING in their own right....They all perform different missions. You want an airport, send in the Rangers. You want an oil platform, send in the SEALs, you want to overthrow a county with it's own people, Green Berets, not to mention the Air Forces contributions which are invaluable, but lets not forget the unknown elephant in the room......DELTA...... Very specialized and trained to ridiculous levels.

It is difficult to say what the US Special Forces Unit is best. Some say it is the SEALS. Some say it is the Army Special Forces (Green Berets). Some say it is Delta Force. Delta Force is composed of the best taken from the SEALS, Green Berets. MARSOC (Marines Special Forces). They all have slightly different functions. So, it really depends on mission requirements. They all have roughly the same skill sets.

Marine Special Forces is called Force Recon. In the Marine Corps, my first MOS was in SIGINT, and one of my Devil Dog buddies at my first school was a prior Force Recon Marine. We had SEALs attending the school as well, though I never personally knew any of them. But he sure got the message across to me that they were all brothers like no other. Mad respect 🙏
@theoverman7690
@theoverman7690 9 месяцев назад
Incorrect, Force Recon is Special Operations Capable but NOT special forces. Marines were always hesitant to have a true "Special Forces" unit because once designated as such they no longer answer to Marine command but answer directly to SOCOM. However, after the gulf war the USMC decided they didn't like being sidelined when Special Forces units were called/needed. That is why the Marines created MARSOC in 2006 and it is the USMC's only offering to the Special Forces roster. It is the only USMC unit that answers to directly to SOCOM. Many Force Recon Marines at that time were recruited in to MARSOC. Semper Fi @@Etereys

Actually, the “best” special forces unit is the one that none of us are privy to even just what it is called. This I actually know for a fact…the missions they have done you won’t see on the news….or you will, but none of the facts would be correct, you’d never know anyone was behind what happened…it would be attributed to something else, for example, it might be reported as some natural disaster, or some type of accident.

The Navy has SEAL Team 6 (Development Group) for Hostage Rescue. The Army has the 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment - Delta, or more popularly referred to Delta Force, Deadly D, CAG (Combat Applications Group) etc. for Hostage Rescue. They're both the cream of the crop for their respective branch (Army, Navy). The difference is, Delta Force is trained in infantry tactics to begin with when the first join the Army. The SEAL's are not. No Delta operator has ever gone to join the SEAL's. But there have been SEAL's that switched branches to try out for Delta. That should tell you something right there. And I believe it's an unwritten rule that any U.S. citizen held hostage by anyone or in a dangerous area of the world that needs to be rescued, the U.S. Military will come for them. That's currently being displayed with American citizens being held hostage by Hamas.
@theoverman7690

Your reaction tore me up. It reminded me of how every American used to feel. Sadly, our country no longer stands for these principles. Our military members are heroes who have to take orders from corrupt and inept politicians. Today, Jessica would have been left to die just like the people in Afghanistan. We have to thank personal American donations and outreach groups who chartered private planes and hired retired military members to rescue several hundred people in Afghanistan after our government deserted them and refused to send rescue. Our soldiers deserve so much more than what they earn. These heroes enlist for the love of the country. I just wish the politicians had the same heart.

You asked in the video if SEAL Team 6 (Development Group a.k.a DevGru) are 'the best' unit in the U.S. Military. Well, DevGru is what is called a Tier 1 unit, and the U.S. Military has several Tier 1 units in the different branches of the Military. They are put into a command structure called JSOC. (Joint Special Operations Command). The Army's Tier 1 unit, 'Delta Force' (1st Special Forces Operational Detachment Delta a.k.a CAG (Combat Applications Group) a.k.a ACE (Army Compartmentalized Element) was the unit that killed the leader of ISIS.

Seals earn 41K to 76K a year. For the US military that actually is pretty good pay even on the lower end. There's another video on here where Jessica tells the story herself. There are other elite groups like the Army Green Berets spread out over the branches that pretty much equal the Seals. But notice they sent the Navy Seals to the African desert and after Osama. They seem to be the main one to go in these days at least as far as the public is told.

Are the Navy Seals the best in the world? Yes and No, They are the best at what they do. There were two other special forces present also in this story. The story mentions the PJs ( ParaRescue) with the motto "That others may live" They are the best at what they do which is rescue. Trained to operate in any part of the world in any climate also trained in any rescue scenario, including going into harms way with the Navy Seals. And probably even though they weren't mention The Knight Stalkers 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment gave them a ride home and they are the best helicopter pilots in the world. they have to be, if you hear of some crazy amazing operation the Seals, Delta or Rangers have pulled off, Knight Stalkers probably gave them a ride. This Special mission required multiple Special forces groups because each group is the best at what they do, not the best but the best at what they do.

Highly recommend learning how the US Navy was formed, a recent RU-vid reaction channel reacted to it, specifically from Fat Electrician’s video, and it lays the foundation of “We don’t negotiate with ____.” In this video and current times, we’d fill in the blank with terrorists, but back in the early 1800’s the newly formed US was responsible for breaking down pirates specifically in the Mediterranean Sea.

America has numerous "Special Forces", with 'Navy Seals' at the Top. Since 2014 the US Special Operations Command (SOCOM) has grown from 38,000 personnel to 73,000, with their budget skyrocketing to $13.7 billion: which is lots of highly trained Warriors. So the USA has 'Navy Seals', & 'Army Rangers', plus 'Special Asymmetric Warfare Groups', 'Special Ops Weather Technicians', 'Combat-Craft Specialist Warfare Navy-Crewmen', 'Anti-Terrorism Security Teams', 'Security Force Regiments of the Marine Corps', 'American Diplomatic Missions & Embassy Personnel', 'Security & Counter Surveillance Corps', 'Marine Raiders', 'Army-Ranger Combat-Regiments', 'Green Berets', 'Marine Corps Force Recon', & 'US Military Elite Special Forces', etc.

Specifically for hostage rescue there is Delta and they have always specialized in high risk hostage. DEVGRU and Delta are both amazingly skilled trained and equipped units, however DEVGRUs origins are as a direct combat unit, with high speed training in a variety of things. Hostage rescue was not part of their initial mission set. Delta was created exclusively to deal with these situations and with extremely covert deniable operations. Both units are fully capable of this type of hostsge rescue. In a much more high risk evolution I would probably say Delta is the better option. But against bandits in a politically irrelavant AO DEVGRU is an equally valid choice.

Just so you know whenever there is time to do it the training involves creating a scene exactly like the one the rest ue will be in and planning it to the tee. Since there were civilians this would have been important because the Seals couldn't take the chance of killing and American. So it would have been all planned as much as possible. They of course had to find where they were in the middle of nowhere and what it looked like. Also, we have different teams for different things even among the Seals one group in for Winter, one for Jungle etc etc so all the Special Forces across militaries are trained for specific scenarios. So none is better but Seal Team 6 is the culmination of the most experienced and proven SEALS.

As others have said, her interview was a better video to react to. It's a better video to react to. And you see what she really looks like normally which gives a stark contrast to how she looks in hostage videos shown here. There was no offer to pay a ransom, our government doesn't negotiate with terrorists and doesn't pay ransoms.

None of the military pay well but that's not why our men are there. They are there because they love this country and want to protect it and their families for all of our futures! Not enough good can be said. My son joined the Marines and then the Army but he didn't do any of it for the money!

US Service members are paid according to their rank. They get additional danger pay and pay for parachuting. You won’t get rich, but they are paid better and any military in the world.

Seal team six/ DEVGRU is definitely not any better than the Army’s delta force/ combat applications group. It’s just seal team six have gotten more notoriety from luckily getting the more high profile missions such as this one and the bin laden mission. Also more seals have written books and have come forward to openly talk about these missions. The guy who supposedly killed bin laden has come out publicly. There’s seal team six and there’s regular seal teams. Regular tier 2 seal teams would never receive this kind of mission. Delta force and seal team six are the tier 1 units and then you have tier 2 special operations units- Those from those units can go on to try to make the tier 1 units.

YES SEAL team 6 is the very best that there is, in order to be selected to attempt to train for Seal team 6. you must first be a competant operator on one of the other seal teams, so only the very best SEAL's are chosen to put them through another year of even harsher and more grueling training before they can become a member of SEAL team 6, so yes I think that it is fair to say that they are the best of the best of the best, it is SEAL team 6 that is called on for the most dangerous missions, and the missions that CAN NOT FAIL. so the short answer to your question is yes, they are the very best there is for the work that they do.

Incredibly, the pirates were demanding 45 million dollars to ransom Jessica. Like many people in some poorer countries, these pirates assumed that America was so rich that paying 45 million dollars would be easy to do. The thing is, that is setting a dangerous precedent. No one should EVER be rewarded for kidnapping an American citizen. The reward these guys got was not what they expected because there were nine kidnappers holding Jessica hostage and when the Seals got Jessica and headed home, they left behind them nine pirates lying lifeless in the desert sand. That also is setting a precedent. It is telling would-be kidnappers that they will not be given any money for ransom but instead will probably lose their lives. That MIGHT make them a bit more reluctant to try this again any time soon. Jessica said that while she was being held hostage she was sure she would die and she said that it bothered her because she was so young and because she hadn't even had a child yet. Since her rescue, Jessica and her husband have left Africa and are living back in the US and they are now the proud parents of a baby boy. To see another incredible story about the Navy Seals you should check out the story of the Maersk Alabama, a ship that was captured by Somalia Pirates. In a video entitled "Captain Phillips: True Hijack Documentary" the story is told of how the Maersk Alabama was boarded by pirates and the ship's captain, Captain Phillips, was taken hostage. The Navy sent Seal Snipers in to rescue the captain and to end the standoff. That is a longer video but it shows the skill of the Navy Seals and I think you will find it very interesting.
