This was a really good and comprehensive overview on a very underrated type of module. I use my Doepfer sequential switch a lot and the WMD looks even smarter, wow! Please keep these types of videos coming, guys
Man, I wish I could play you the jam this just inspired! Thank you for sparking some tremendous ideas and introducing some great concepts. I'm in month three of my modular journey and this has definitely helped me raise my game. Top vid, cheers and a new sub for thee here.
Hey Nick! I bought a Switchblade from Patchwerks .. hmmm.. I'd say maybe 6 months ago? something like that...(In fact.. I'm pretty sure you were the one that sold me on it!!!) I don't feel like I've utilized it to its full potential yet! I imagine that I should be able to use it in a similar fashion to the way you are using the SL3KT? I've also got DivKid's new "RND STEP" module.. and It strikes me that I could kind of make this switching occur in wonderfully unpredictable ways.. I'm going to play with that!
You should be able to! The Switchblade is cool because you can set the cv input to either toggle (which I believe is default) and be momentary (which is what I used in the video). I think you switch between the two by holding down all three channel buttons, and they will blink. But even in toggle mode, it would be a lot of fun to try this out because it would actually bounced between the two switching patterns (input A on rise, input B on fall, and then input B on rise, input A on fall). Another fun patch would be to run a CV sequence into input A, the RND STEP into B, and then the output of those into a quantizer. Then you essentially can switch between a pre-programmed sequence to a random "fill" pitch sequence!
How are you using your TANH? I only know the DivKid Video, so i know i can use it as a simple compressor, as a distortion and also to keep feedback loops in check... i would really like a comprehensive video from YOU about TANH.
i bought one after watching this video but the click is super loud on mine when it switches from A to B or vice versa. is that normal ? always like that ?
There will be a click when switching over if the two audio sources you are switching between have a big difference between their amplitude at the moment of switching, and especially if the two sources you are using are not related in phase. This is normal; you can file it in the same category of hearing clicks when listening to an LFO through an audio output, or having a fast envelope sounding "clicky". If they did do something to smooth out the click, when we wouldn't be able to switch the sources at audio rate, so there is a trade off. If you were looking to do something similar but don't need that audio switching, I would recommend something like the Make Noise XPan for crossfading and something like the WMD Time Wrap to slew your gate in order to remove that click. Around 6:23 I do address the pop and clicks and using a filter to smooth it out.
@@TheHomestereo i was trying your example with plaits and the 2 outs... but i tried with other 2 osc also and still clicking super loud. thanks for answer i will check it out.
