Watching this again in 2024 after having watched this live as a child over four decades ago. I still love it. What a voice! What a great saxophone player! What a great bunch of backing singers! I'm so glad they won! Love from England UK ❤
To think this ballard came out 42years ago and it is still as fresh today as it was then. Having effectively lost my Wife to Alzheimers this song means so much to me these days.
I looked after my mum for 8 years with Dementia then finally cancer It's so hard to watch them die a little each day My grandchildren tell me I'm an orphan now 💔 😢 😔
How could anyone ever say no to this angel? ♥Such a lovely song, I remember this, I was very very young and life was just starting, what an adventure it's been, but it was so much sweeter then. Can we press rewind?
@@maybeme7171Of course both of his songs could beat Euphoria. Euphoria is too overrated to the point I thought Russia should have won that year even if they were classed as a joke entry.
@Johnny Logan I liked this song too......I do not like this contest anymore......it was a better contest a long time ago......songs were so beautiful....
Blimey. That pure, perfect note at the end. 😢 I was a - trying to be cool - 15 year old in 1980, but I loved this immediately - and the last few bars made me cry. Haven’t heard it for years - can confirm it still does.
'Irish' is a made-up concept 😆😂. The people who live on this island came here from warmer climates to get away from the same twisted bloodline-rulers that oppress the world today. Those that came here were mixed, anyway and many more that came in mid-to-recent times - 'English', 'Scottish', 'Welsh', 'European' have mixed with the 'Irish'. Surely, you realise this based-on different skin-tones. Also, you do realise, more recently - 'Ukrainians' that have gotten citizenship are now considered Irish. The likes of you are totally lost 💙🌿.
This song deserves to win but probably not the best winner ever due to the emotional topic and the way he sung it. He kinda repeated "What's another year" quite a lot.
Had a really nice voice and apparently was the only singer to have won the Eurovision Song Contest twice, in 1980 and 1987. He also composed the winning song in 1992.
My dad absolutely loved this song. He died back in 1980 not long after this song was out. It so reminds me of him whenever I hear it. A truly great song and perfectly sang by Johnny Logan. Amazing voice !
I was 14 years old when i did listen to this very beautiful song and 41 years later i still listen to this song which is so good to remember that Johnny Logan was a great singer
@@AlanHope2013 Love ABBA but if waterloo was in the Eurovision now it would struggle to get out of their semi-final and did you know the UK gave ABBA no points I am an Irish Man and love ABBA still play them at weddings and parties.
JL's voice has such raw emotion and purity, he doesn't sell a song he sells a feeling. He had a gig scheduled in Dublin, but I think it was just after lockdown so was probably cancelled? I was hoping to go over for it.
Beautiful.. also the good days of Eurovision when it was about the song.. no pathetic political votes, rediculous costumes flashing lights or other distractions..
İ ve been waiting Such a long time Looking out for you But you renot here Whats another year İ ve been waiting Such a long time Reachi ng out for you But youarenot here Whats another year İ ve been praying Such a long time İtiş the only way To hide to fear Whats another year Thanks J Logan 1980
Creo wue es la mejor cancion de la historia de Eurovision. No sólo la melodia sino el sentimiento y la pureza que emananan de este hombre.Extrairdinario.
The Irish equivalent in looks to david cassidy.. And.... Could this guy sing... A beautiful song... A powerful performance.. A well deserved win... Well done J. Lo.
Enfim ...
Great song and brilliantly sung by Johnny and a live orchestra. The Eurovision-winning songwriter and former RTÉ broadcaster Shay Healy sadly passed away at the age of 78 on April 9. R.I.P Shay.
I was a child when this was on tv, did not renember that this song was an esc song...saw the live esc 23 on saturday and yesterday this song came into my mind on and on..i forgot the singer...looking now at this and find it really funny to have him on my mind unconsciously maybe because of the esc..which is not my first desire to watch on tv , vut nevertheless interesting to look at the changing times and it is also okay and always some good performers in it.. johnny logan catches me after all this time with a beautiful love song and a really good voice, good vibes , good memories and always will be good :)
The song was written by the late Shay Healy. His mother had died some years before and the song is about his fathers anguish from his loss. Johnny knew the story behind the song and mirrored that emotion into the song
Jonny Logan had a concert in SriLanka Taj Samura Hotel in 1990 !!! I met him!!! Now I am in the land of the rising sun spending my evening of the life Great young man at that time!!!!
The 1st single I ever bought when I'd just left school and my favourite song of all time classic when the eurovision was a singing competition amazing song x
