I used to work at the reception desk of Hotel Saga. Whenever some company had their annual staff party they would invariably at some point play this song in the ball room and sing along really loud and I would pray that the attendees wouldn't crash through the floor 😂. At the same time I really enjoyed it ❤️.
My little brother was a baby boy, when this came out. Everytime when he was cryin, we played this song and he stopped immediatly and began to laugh and smile 😄
What about insieme 1992, rock me baby, hold me now and what's another year I'm a huge Eurovision historical fanatic Estonia in 2001 (winners) were also good= everybody
And, Yeees, We have a Winner....Danmark. Yeees, your so Wright about that. Sounded so good, looking so good ( it was 23 years a go) .There are still " My cup of tea ". Heja Danmark.
I remember this too good....back in the day there was a telephone Hotline where you could hear little bits of every participant's song and when the Olsen Brothers came on my mom and I instantly said THIS would be the winner in a perfect world...where no East European countries shuffle their neighbors all the high points 😢 When they really won I broke down laughing and crying, I was so happy and not only for these 2 wonderful guys but also for me because this marked my first and last time I got the winner right 👍❤️
This song has it all, the lyrics, the melody, the rhythm, the chorus, the latino style, their beautiful voices and two grown men with a guitar, and the song is timeless
I am from Denmark and i was born in 1996. I remember keeping my self awake and my mom yelled to my Dad:'' Keep yourself awake, if you ever want to se Denmark win.'' But for me this song is just great both in English and Danish.
Who is here in february 2020!!! Seriously one of the best winners in all time. You know why? No glitter and glamour, no arrogance, no fake show. These guys including the lovely background ladies have really fun and sincere positive vibes. The lyrics and the music touch your heart and soul. No synthesizer artificial so called music but sheer quality. This song proves that being humble, respectfull and love always win. Also the short speech in which the winners thank the public is exemplary. The arrogance of the human race including the book makers this song had no chance of winning. How do you dare to say "old" has no chance at all!!! By winning they proved that age does not matter. It is about quality! The back ground ladies did not need to show off their body or dancing skills but with simple dance movements and their nice vocals they earn respect!
in a sense as a Latvian I'm a bit sad that seems like it was Latvia that brought the ''show'' aspect to it kinda with Marie N and undressing shtick. After that every winner brought a show there
The young woman with long red hair at 2:02. Her name is Bianca and she were my college when I worked in H&M back then. I was so chocked to watch her on TV and told her at work.
The bookmakers had a hard time predicting anything those years (1998-2003). They didn't have a clue onhow the public would vote and they were still basing most predictions on the juries....
I remember hearing Conchita Wurst for the first time and thinking this will win... bookmakers had it at 66/1... always kick myself I didn't place money on it
It was a similar story in 1994, Ireland had a similar act, two men, no acoustics etc. with their song the Rock and Roll Kids not expected to win and they did. Talk about history repeating itself lol
This song is one of those one's when you hear them you know that's the one, that's the winner. Absolutely simple (no fireworks and other crazy stuff), still absolutely phenomenal! Hats off, Olsen Brothers!
The funny thing is that I actually remember some parts of this and later on same year I heard it on the radio. I was like 3 years old...but this is part of my childhood summer memories. Getting a bit nostalgic. Greetings from your neighboring country Sweden.
You are Great "Olsen Brothers" Thank you from Music lover from Finland. This is one of the best (may be the best) winners of all time In Eurovision Song Contest history.
Right?! Sweden the year before and this one are winners I still remember to this date. I know who won after them but I only listen to them if I want to refresh my memory. This is an instant classic I still remember and know the lyrics.
Tim Klok This is why: www.billedbladet.dk/kendte/danmark/musik/broedrene-olsen-er-skuffede They got rejectet by DR, which is Denmarks Radio who have the rights for Eurovision, they instead got some free tickets for the show !!
I was downright dissapointet, and instead came up with something really lame.... Take that from a Dane... Stupid DR and with their political China thingy
I remember watching this in my teens and as soon as it got tontue chorus I looked at the rest of the family and said....and here we have this year's winners 😂.
Back in 2000 I was in Samarkand train station waiting for a train when a girl started singing the Russian contribution to Eurovision. Little did I know then that a Danish duo won Eurovision that year that I had listened a lot to back in 1973-5. I think the girl sang the song to show me that she knew some English. Solo was in English. I even learned the lyrics to the song back then.
My Nana was from Copenhagen, always felt a little bit Danish. I was 19 when this was the winner. I remember, I had quit university in the first year and I was feeling pretty down, this helped me a lot! Simple pleasures.
This song and the danish version (Smuk som et stjerneskud) became a huge partyhits in Denmark. It was played at almost every party and in every bar I went to in my youth. Great times!
I remember watching this in 2000 among my friends. It was absolutely clear, these are the winners. It was spectacular, i loved it. Best wishes from Hamburg, Germany ❤
Love that moment the director abandons the shot plan at 2:11 to show the audience. There is no way this would have won without the atmosphere in the venue and the feedback from the audience that night. And thanks to the Olsens for simply taking a long bow rather than screaming THANK YOU WE LOVE YOU!!!!
This song feels very ahead of it’s time for Eurovision. It feels like a 2013-14 era winner. The guy is so charming too! Love this song well deserved win.
Definitely one of the great Eurovision winners. To think 10 years later the song would switch genres with XTM feat Annia, and produce a dance classic! Testament to how so so brilliantly the song was written.
I really like this song. It may be one of the biggest surprises in ESC history (they were apparently 150-1- the longest shot ever in ESC), but it's a pleasant one.
@@johnkane2314 their odds were on and off depending on the day, two weeks before the contest they were indeed at 125/1 (probably because of the danish version).
In all the years I've followed Eurovision since 1989 this is the ONLY time my favourite song from the contest went into triumph. Great song. Just knew it was a winner after they'd performed it. I would of loved to of been old enough to enjoy Eurovision in the golden era of the 70s and 80s. Modern Eurovision is lame but that being said I loved ESC 2000, a very strong contest with many decent entries. The last good contest I'd say.
Love the little autotune bit before the end; Cher's 'Believe' had come out less than 2 years before this so perhaps that inspired these guys to use it.
I was just watching this Eurovision for the first time and it's SOOO 00's! 🤣 This song is great, surprising but really great! And they seem to be really loved by the ESC community too! ❤
