Thanks for reaction , Jake;) You say that the Dutch staging is too simple for the great song .This is what they write in the USA today : "A piano, a light source, a dark background and a hypnotic voice. And nothing more," they write in New York. Laurence, according to the American Media, never does too much and therefore precisely enough. "His staging is very austere and therefore a perfect contrast with other participants. Goosebumps". I think they have understood in the USA very well :)) I want to thank you for ALL your reactions !! Fantastic! You deserve a "special award" for it :)) Greetz- JOERI .
Loved the Netherlands! The performance saws that's he is a true musician. I woke up this morning and couldn't get this song of my head. Already in my playlist. Love from Greece
I think losing the piano for the Netherlands would work better as well. I also understand why they chose to have him behinds the piano. He wanted to recreate the feeling that he felt when he wrote the song. Which was behind the piano. I do like the play with light with the ball that represents the hope, and the light that bursts out behind him. That gave me chills. Still love the performance and I really hope it will win!
Yes!!! Azerbaijan was awesome! His vocals were on point, he hit all the notes, he sang the song so well, he elevated the song and it came "alive", the staging was great!
I think, the Netherlands' song is so good, and everyone had such high expectations for it, that whatever they would have done, people would still be disappointed. I love the idea to go with some simple staging, lights, this creates a feeling of connection. Still a certain winner for me.
Sweden has a really great message. John is such a nice person in real life, he desirves to win because he has worked so hard to get were he is today. Good luck Sweden.
Hey Jake, what about the big 5 (The UK, Italy, Spain, France, Germany) and Israel? Their full performances have been uploaded to the official Eurovision channel. Can't wait to hear your thoughts!
I feel the Lithuania 's song. I really do! I have feelings enough for us both! I am still not over that he didn't go to the final. You are a very good predictor, Jake! I like your reviews. You are so gentle and honnest, but polite at the same time. You should teach some of the subscribers out there how to behave! Norway are 7th at the odds according to a comment I saw recently. If we end close to top 5, it will be fantastic! We haven't been top 5 for 6 years now. But then Tom Hugo has to sing the correct lyrics!
I am Happy that my country qualified. The Song is so sweet and the message is good. Its sad that you did not want it to qualify. We will support Leonora tonight. Go Denmark ❤🇩🇰❤ If Denmark doesnt win then Norway or The Netherlands.
Tina Olsen No. No. Walk it back, my friend. I never said I didn’t like the song. I’ve always found it to be such a catchy song. I predicted based on the performance that it would not qualify. These aren’t my favorite songs...they’re the songs I predicted would or would not qualify.
Armenia not qualifying didn’t surprise me so much. I felt she was borderline and maybe she was. I think Srbuk being alone onstage is what hurt her. Her vocals were decent, she just needed more staging. Lithuania was...ok...there were no lions. Jurij did a good job but it wasn’t enough. He had no staging. I didn’t have him going through. Moldova - Anna’s vocals were amazing and from what I’ve heard, the sand artist wasn’t even performing live. So Anna was singing along while the sand stuff was pre-recorded. She was borderline for me. Romania - I really wanted Ester to advance. I think she had a good balance of elements from her stage show at Selectia Nationala (the chair) and from her music video (the mansion and pyro.) I really expected her to go through, but you have to expect the unexpected. Ireland was interesting this year. I like the song, but Sarah’s staging was kinda meh. I don’t think any Eurovision song has parodied a 50s diner scene before so that may have been a first. Her vocals could’ve been better. I didn’t have her qualifying. Next year, Ireland. Croatia - Roko got his wings! His vocals were amazing, hands down. I laughed a little bit when the backing dancers were “flown in” to the stage, it doesn’t get more Eurovision than that. Croatia was borderline for me. Roko had a great performance, and he should be proud of that. Latvia - I love this song. It just didn’t have enough support. I would’ve voted for it. It’s a nice song, just a little too repetitive. It reminded me of Netherlands 2014 where it kind of felt like a slow country ballad. Sadly, I didn’t have them qualifying. Denmark - I didn’t have this song qualifying, but it’s slowly grown on me. I have to give the Danish team some credit. They amped up the staging and didn’t have Leonora stare at the camera for half of the performance. I like that they brought the chair from Dansk Melodi Grand Prix. It was just a fun and sweet performance. Austria - PÆNDA delivered an amazing performance. I had her going through and I hoped she would sneak in and advance. Sadly that wasn’t the case. This is a great song and I just think it was a great performance. Russia delivered like always. Sergey didn’t disappoint. It’s an alright song. An expected qualifier but I think people were expecting something like his 2016 performance. It still shows how versatile of an artist he is. He can do pop (2016) and a ballad (2019) Albania had me on the fence, but I had her going through. Issues aside, she still delivered a great performance and Albania is in the final for the second year in a row. Netherlands was an expected qualifier and Duncan might have even won this semifinal. Maybe this is my bias, but I heard and saw no issues with his performance. To me, it was perfect, and emotional. Malta! Back in the final for the first time since 2016! I had Michela going thorough. Her staging was so different and out there in a good way. Azerbaijan stole the show. I had him going through, but I was worried he wouldn’t qualify We’re watching Chingiz’s heart be repaired by these robots. He amped everything up. He was vocally on point. This staging was really out of this world. Switzerland - I still don’t really care for the song, but I will give Luca credit. Back in the final after sitting 5 years out in the semis. The performance looked like a music video and I think that helped. Luca had a great performance. Welcome back to the final, Switzerland. Norway was great. It’s a perfect mix of pop and traditional with the joiking. I’m beyond happy this advanced. North Macedonia! The commentator form the stream I watched said “New name, new fortune” and he was right! Back in the final for the first time since 2012!!! Tamara delivered and we’re all proud. If done right, she can give her country their best result ever. Sweden was amazing. John and the mommas (what John calls his backing vocalists) gave an amazing performance. It was a copy paste from Melfest and it worked. Definitely one of my favorite Swedish entries ever.
there are a bunch of great songs this year. first of all i think the winner will be the netherlands. he was amazing! i got goosebumps with his performance. besides that i really can't tell for the rest of them cause they are really good. i think maybe switzerland will be second. and then there are a bunch of countries that are really strong. i can't tell how they will place. i think malta will be high. cyprus, greece, italy, iceland, russia, australia, azerbaijan, serbia and norway are really strong. and then there is slovenia who could sneak in the top 10 possibly in a high place.
The Israeli followers of your youtube channel deciced Jake, -'' We do need your education!!!! '' Graet job reviewing the Esc 2019!!! Keep on your good intelligent spirit! love to you and the USA from Tel Aviv , Israel🇮🇱🇺🇸🇮🇱🇺🇸🇮🇱🇺🇸🇮🇱🇺🇸😍🤗😘😀😄😂🤔🙄😌♥️♥️♥️
Malta is going to surprise you all and bypass lots of countries that challenge the trophy. Saw her yesterday live in the rehearsal , she really brings the right energy and attitude needed by Esc winner.
Armenia should’ve gone through for me too, I know she had that one note that she didn’t quite reach but then five seconds later, she absolutely nails an even higher note, which for me completely cancels out the one slightly off note. Either way, the song was and still is in my top five from this year
I'm from Ireland and it didn't go down well here, it's sad because I think people are just fed up with the eurovision and other countries voting for each other.
In 2018 Cyprus had 38 % chance of winning, and Israel won. In 2017 Bulgaria was ranked as the winner by the bookies, but Portugal won. In 2016 Russia was ranked as the winner, but Ukraine won. In 2014 Sweden was ranked as the winner, but Austria won. We never know what will happen.
Happy Eurovision Day!!! 🇪🇺 And I went 9/10! 😀 1. Netherlands 2. Malta 3. Sweden 4. Switzerland 5. Azerbaijan 6. North Macedonia 7. Russia 8. Norway 9. Denmark 10. Croatia (for the cheese factor) 11. Albania (glad she made it through) 12. Romania 13. Austria 14. Lithuania 15. Ireland 16. Armenia 17. Latvia 18. Moldova
Martin Buchtrup I guess because Sweden’s original staging was so powerful and perfect. There’s nothing wrong with Denmark’s at all...it could just use a little energy.
I agree about netherlands, they might be throwing away their victory to azerbaijan or australia. Switzerland was fun- swedes did that entry. You can tell..it has pieces of ingrossos staging and a bit fuego vibes. Sweden had issues with staging, camera angles ( and sound.) Fingers crossed the production team get it right.
Tbh the performance from the Netherlands was very good and if they change the staging people will still complaint about the change. If the stage is energetic it not making it not better. If the stage to relaxed. People will still complain. For a lot of other song they can afford to sing false and for the Netherlands they can't.
I legit thought Croatia had a chance to sneak in just based on the vocals but I guess, it was doomed to NQ all along like it was predicted at the very beginning.
Hi Jake. I thought Switzerland was annoying, Denmark was childish, and Norway a mess of a song. I agree with you about the rest, though. Holland (where I live) are in danger of blowing it by playing too safe. I love Albania's song, but it has no hook to sell it. My forecast - Italy to win, Iceland 2nd, The Netherlands 3rd. Keep up the good work. I enjoy your videos.
i love luca, but there is no way switzerland won semi 2. they absolutely resonated with the audience, but the juries? i cant see it. im sure they were like 2nd/3rd though.
Let me answer your question: That wasn't the best we had to offer.(Ireland). No national final, shaky vocals, cringy staging. Last year was a huge step forward in the right direction of what ireland stand for. We were the first country to accept diversity and to send something so generic worries me. Sarah and the gang tried their best but were truly outclassed
To be honest (and you should have been too) Paenda her vocals on the night were not that good. I like the song and I like Paenda and I would have loved for her to go through to the final BUT based on her vocals on Thursday I didn't think she would and she didn't!
Malta had a poor live performance though. She needs to get much more comfortable on stage. I don’t think Switzerland won semi 2. Hard to connect with Russia’s song so not that high up imo. Azerbaijan was really good as I predicted since rehearsals came out. Really sad for Croatia’s vocals getting dismissed. Latvia was great. She’s insanely present and attractive. Song stuck in my head. Sweden = best performance by far. Only challenged by the Netherlands amazing song. Quite angry that Semi 2 had 18 songs that were better than 14 of the songs from semi 1. That shit’s dumb. 😑 Finally, this semi cemented the top bets in my mind. Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland and Azerbaijan are the top four performances. Italy hasn’t performed live yet but I suspect they could join the top. Wildcards outside of those are Australia, Iceland, Norway and Greece.
It's kinda funny because Ester's vocals was so good haha. How can you say The vocals are bad. I mean i got you oppinion but to say that is kinda like you dont know much about a good vocals?
I thought Ester (Romania) had the best vocals on the night. Her song song is actually quite good and after what she had been through in her NF, I thought she deserved to qualify.

Russia chooe the right performer Sergay Lazrov is a very fine one, saw him live on the First final rehersal, but yet again really personally, I do not connect to his song. I do not think it should win and any result in places 6-10 will be best achievement he can get. His previous entry to Esc was much better
