Matt’s brain shutting down at Australia’s result was hilarious. And then again at Ukraine’s result. Like you can actually see the moment he returns to factory settings 😂😂
Im happy no one got a double zero, that's too harsh. Same Germany finished last, but I hope they can be happy about finishing 20th in the televote! So happy for Serbia and Moldova, amazing results for them!
but honestly anyone should get above Switzerland even Germany. Screw the juries, I hope no-one got to drink every time Switzerland got points from the juries.
@@karinjohansson7262 not sure about frauds but the juries I think do communicate with each other and they did have the privilege/ golden rule on who to bring as the 10th last qualifier on the semis. Azerbaijan received 0 point on the televote in semi 2 and they got the 10th place.
I wouldn’t say Serbia got shafted that badly as they were 11th with the jury which isn’t bad at all but Moldova were 14 points out of all juries that’s madness!
Congratulations on this beautiful balkan song of Moldova. He deserved more. What did the jury not like? They gave 14 points to the song that received the second most televotes of the night. What a pity. It shows that the jury looks at Balkan songs with prejudice and blinders.
I think the biggest surprise to me, aside from the big response for Moldova, was the equally big response for Serbia. I remember when this song was first released, and the ESC commentariat was like "this is interesting, but I'm not sure if people will get it." I guess they got it. I had kind of hoped that the UK would have done a bit better with the televote, but they still came in 2nd overall, which is amazing.
I love the televote result. The European public really have a BIG say on who they liked and those that truly captured our attention during the competition. My heart goes to Moldova whom was unjustifiably slaughtered by the jury - 14 to 239, wow what a crime the jury has made here.
that's why it's great to have both. I mean Australia went from 123 to 5. same thing The jury judges the songs differently, and that's great, cause As fun as Moldova is, it is just a song you'd play at the beerfests in Germany or at Carnaval. So good for them coming 7th! with a song that wasn't even qualifying before rehearsals
@@anastasijaaleksanderp.8841 What a load of shit. The amount of Ukrainians who are refugees in European countries would have no effect on the results. The only exception is Poland, but they would have given them 12 anyway.
Yeees, they deserved so much better result. I think their staging and overall performance was a bit too much, a little messy and didn't translate well to both juries and televote.
@@chessguy99 I liked the song, I even voted for it, but it was certainly just one out of ten male ballads, and pretty much the opposite of uplifting. So please don't bring up the old tired argument "they didn't vote us because they don't like us".
@@pirimpallopirimpalli4932 Personally I am very tired of statement songs - ''I am what I am'', ''Not the same'', ''I am'', ''Toy'', ''Je Me Casse'', etc. I mean we all struggle and have issues.. these songs don't lift me up at all. I need a party on Eurovision night and my ballads need to be from the heart - The Netherlands song I connected to 100% it just felt honest.
It’s kinda interesting how the semi-final results differed from actual performance. The Netherlands were second in Semi 1 and yet finished behind many of the other semi-finalists in 11th.
@@user-gs3yf7dv8r I think it didn’t help that they we sandwiched between Ukraine and Spain. Also many of their jury votes ended up voting for other countries outside of semi 1 meaning they got hurt more. Shame cuz this was one of my favourites this year
UK,,,well done indeed....Sam you were fantastic and the BEST vocal for any UK entry in its history....male or female. and I have been watching since 1966....well done.
This voting segment was shocking! So big discrepancy between juries and televote. Switzerland, Azerbaijan, Australia, Belgium all floped in televote and had good support from juries. Greece was so overhyped this year and it really showed in televote. Lithuania and Estonia had better televote result than Greece. I didn't expect so much jurie support for Spain, she did better than Eleni Fouriera with juries, that was really unexpected! But Im glad she did so well. So sad for France, they deserved better. So happy for Moldova, Serbia, Spain and UK.
@@trojanpony I meant Greece was overhyped before the competition by fans, esc bloggers, websites. She was one of the favourites even for the win by their opinions. And televote results proved them wrong, she got points from only 9 out of 40 countries. Greece is actually one of my favourite countries in Eurovision, and I hope they will go back to their traditional sounds that brought them their bests results in the past.
I think people got sick of that big chunk of ballads in the 2nd half so when Moldova came on it was a breath of fresh air. Gutted for France, by far my favourite. As for the UK - WHAAAAAT? I'd been a bit cynical all the way through and hadn't dared get my hopes up but, my goodness, a star is born! Anyway, well done Ukraine, I ranked it very high even before the war so it won on merit as far as I'm concerned.
France is certainly the biggest shock for a lot of fans of the entry!!! Wow! The band 4 members must be KO today! I wouldn't be at their place when coming back home. I feel empathy for them.
@@Kapok-Bush-TdK Me too! The only thing I can think of is that France and Ukraine's songs were in the same genre so maybe votes that France could have got all went to Ukraine.
@@valwoodhouse353 U're close to the truth. A comment below another video indeed tells about that precisely. A girl explained that some friends of hers were ready to vote for France before and during the Finale BUT when voting came they decided to vote several times for Ukraine because they were afraid of seeing people not to support this country enough. I think that such a transfer of many votes came from various countries to Ukraine. When U think about Australia for instance and some others that received so few votes: it can easily explain why Ukraine has got 400 points at least!!
Yeah, Moldova really benefited from the running order, because they were amongst all the boring ballads. Serbia also benefited from it because they were almost last and they came after all the boring ballads so people were stunned by her weird performance. I think that the Netherlands had suffered from it because they were sandwiched between Spain and Ukraine. And all countries at the beginning including Czech Republic, Romania, Portugal, Finland and Switzerland all suffered because of the running order and their public vote was badly affected. If Romania was in the second half, their result would've been considerably better. I hate how the producers make the running order so that certain countries can benefit from it more than others.
@@gid9913 U're right to remind us of how running order matters so much in the final voting. It's obvious that several countries would have done much better with another place in the running order. Facts show it year after year: being in the first 9 places of the first half strongly keeps U away from the top 5 most of time.
So over the last two years 4 of the Big 5 have had a Top 5 finish. Germany need to take a long look at how they select for Eurovision. A good result is possible with a good song.
Germany's broadcaster said that they are not interested in winning in the next 5 years really. Part of it is that they have recently hostet (one can refuse to host but that would generate a scandal if it's a huge country). Or preselection had a chance to send a winning song this year and decided to not even get this song into the national final. For them its strategy. At the moment UK, France and Spain are actually interested in hosting for they put in effort and perform well, Italy has a renowned longstanding quality music festival so are not completely part of this metric.
As soon as Ukraine got their televotes I knew they would win so I was very calm ( compared to the other times we were 2nd remember it well) so glad we hung onto 2nd. Also loved France and Moldova.
Thank you Matt and EscUnited for bringing us great and positive but honest content once again for another Esc season! See you in 2023 (or December 2022 looking at you Albania)
I had almost the same reaction as you, it was a weird voting, happy that everyone got points at least! Thanks for the videos ESCunited! Was a lot of fun to watch this year's contest again!
As a spanish I am very happy with what we have achieved this year! I hope that the image you had of us at the festival has changed and from now on you will enjoy our performances
I liked Switzerland. It is a sweet endearing song with a beautiful melody. At least this year I am glad juries exist. Not every year. Although my vote somehow didn't count. :( At least he got to the grand final. That's not bad.
* Uk was the best, no doubt * Jury really doesn't like Poland. They could send Adele with "hello" and still don't get tontop 10.. *Moldova was awesome. Cheesy but very entertaining. *Ukraine.. Good song, but not enough to win for me. *Serbia.. One of my biggest grower of this year. *Spain. We know she can dance, but her vocals weren't good. Sorry... Still deserved top 10. *Australia... He was awesome and deserved better.
Malik is a great live performer and singer. His staging was the best. He was so real so simple and great. Last place, not deserved. He deserved much more points
@@scorpiosunrising7964 I don't get it either but it is what it is. I think the sound balance was wrong though, and it came out messy and rushed. On the night, there was nowhere to hide. You were either exceptional or you got the European chop
@@budigunawan5624 juries never like traditional stuff but this was another level of weird. I didn't expect the jury to like them but I expected a large televote. But again the live performance felt rushed and messy
Me too, but it doesn't matter, he is so talented, and he won a new fan here, excited to see what's next in store for him. I hope Poland keeps sending talented singers in the next years so that they can finally win and bring the contest to either Warsaw or Krakow.
I feel bad for Marius. I’m not a fan of having a camera on everyone who receives points, also low points. I’m happy no one ended up on 0 points altogether though. And congratulations Ukraine on the deserved victory!! This televote score will probably never be broken
EBU - At the start of the televote reveal, reset the scoreboard so that only the ultimate top 10 are shown in jury point order. Quietly reveal the countries in places 11-25, without their score. Then go through that top 10, announcing their televotes. That way, no-one can work out the points left, you never have to announce humiliating low or zero public votes, and you would also save time spent reading out the minor televotes. We can digest them at the end of the contest.
This is about what they did in the first years of the new system actually taking out much of the "drama", which didn't really sit too well with viewers. I actually rather like the voting sequence and if you are not a super eurofan you don't have time to calculate what is left over (I remind you on 2021 and 2019). Its just if it's such a stark contrast of one country pulling lots orlf votes when it gets weird.
A little rant: its 3:08 AM here in Moldova and I am still mad like WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT???I've never been more PISSED at the jury votes than this year 😤 and in particular at the juries from my own country: LIKE WHAT WAS THAT??? 12 points to Ukraine when Romania was right there????? Pfttt, cyprus still gave their 12 pts to Greece and moldova couldn't give romania 12? Like I get the solidarity with ukraine but....come on, now :( wrs didn't deserve this :(
Mulțumesc Draga! Ne pare și noi rău ca nici juriul din România nu au dat Moldova nici un punct, dar din păcate au fost descalificat. In sfârșit, nu contează… România și Moldova, 2 țării, împreuna întotdeauna! 💙💛❤️
@@neomimzyneomimzy5095 To Romania, Moldova is much more than a neighbour, we speak the same language, we have the same folk music, we are brothers. So Romanians are the ones who can understand and apreciate the best the song from Moldova, they took the folk music and improved it so much. So yeah , jury from Romania should be able to give Moldova 12 points.
Guys, this is political contest from maaany years. Poland, Potrugal, Netherlands and many more great songs were robbed this year, this is classic Eurovision result - pure politic. I'm glad I got familiar with some of this songs which will end on my playlist. Otherwise it will be complete lost of time.
Eurovision’s always been political, even back in the good old days. Fascist Spain were accused of buying votes even back in 68 and 69. Sweden withdrew from the competition at four different times during the 60’s and 70’s due to political and anti-commercial protests. Azerbaijan has basically hunted and taken citizens in for interrogation if they publicly supported/voted for the Armenian entry. Cyprus and Greece has always awarded top scores to each other, the same goes for the Nordic and francophone countries. The war in Ukraine had an obvious impact in the voting this year, but it’s also a statement from the European people that we stand united and were affected by Ukrainian performance tonight.
hey the bright side is 13th in televote. Right in the middle and better than favorites like The Netherlands and Portugal. More than 10x televote points than Czechia and more than 2x Finland's which were surefire qualifiers in the semi.
The maximum am mount of points you can get from 40 countries in the televote is is 480 points. Ukraine got 449. That means nearly every country gave Ukraine 12 points. That is Europe uniting. Sam put in a world class performance. Spain and Sweden were great. The UK thinks everyone in Europe hates them. Europe proved tonight that is not true. A great song will always get huge votes.
@@escfredi530 Sorry. That is true. I still find Moldova having more televote points than UK, Spain and Sweden as very strange. Sweden and UK had brilliant songs that were critically respected but not that popular with the public.
What is this shit results,17 points is disrespectful. Love you Alvan and Ahez proud of you. We are never going to make this type of song for eurovision it's done and i'm sad. Because if it ain't cliché like you all said for Barbarba (i love her and the song) , it doesn't get points for France ok get it.
I feel you! I don't understand what happened with France either, but you should definitely be proud. And I don't think you should stop making this type of songs or any other that is not cliché because it's wonderful to show your diverisity. And it doesn't matter how many points you got, you showed something different this year. Look at my country Serbia. We really took a risk sending that kind of entry, and it paid of, while everybody is constantly expecting from us to send Balkan ballads or even better Željko Joksimović every freaking year. 😀 France brought diverisity to this year's Eurovision. ❤️
Lithuania's entry this year was classic french entry so France would get 14th this year. But juries robbed France I think. They didn't deserve just 1 point from the juries.
Will they be available to host next year? And if not, will that fact be enough for them to get more pity votes? Will something happen between now and next year's date? Will people invest money knowing what we know now? Is it okay to push Big5 so they bring good performances (not just the money) just to do this? Are jury votes okay? Are public votes too? Will the rules about politics change? Were them fair enough this year? Sorry. I can't enjoy this year's contest. If this victory brings some happiness to ukrainians then I'll be somehow happy. But now there are a lot of questions to be asked.
I found it funny that you pretty much worked out how Ukraine had got 12 off nearly everyone, 12x40=480 but you couldn’t work out the scar simpler sum of how many points (10x40) uk would get if they had got a 10 from nearly everyone. Hint, it would have been enough to win it. 😂 187 is still a fantastic televote result for the UK though, Sam really did the UK proud. That Ukrainian Televote result…. wow! 🤯
I'm so so pleased with the results because it has blown the lie of Eurovision not being political, it's just a song contest and the voting is not political or strategic. Just ask Russia if they think that! You might not like what I'm saying but it's TRUE! But worse, we all know there has been a wave of support in the media and elsewhere to show support for the Ukraine by voting for there song to win. This started as soon as Russians invaded and the Ukrain have won with a massive unprecedented 439 points. Was the Ukraine song, not just the best song of the night but supreme song ever in all of the Eurovision contests history to recieve such a Nnumbers? Personally No! It was good enough to be in the top 10, maybe, but such an unheared of 439 points...No! Can Eurovision and there supporters ever say again or look us in the eye to say "Eurovision is not political", "the voting is not political or stratigic," NO. Never again! That's why I'm happy the lie has been shown for what it is, a lie! The lies we have been told over and over again, "its cultural", "they have similar culture and musical history" thats why they vote for each othere. Well that's buried! . For year this was the supposedly rational argument when Cyprus always votes for Greece, or when the exYugoslavian countries now gave each other points even if it's just 1 point. While at the other end of Europe the same was happening with the exRussian Scandinavian countries of Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Chez republic, Poland etc. Well that argument is dead, Eurovision is political and strategic. Congraduations for being honest at last. 👏👏👏 However there was one sign of hope when some (not all) ex Russian satellite countries spread there votes more widely for the first time this year.
People don’t make their decisions in a vacuum. It’s as simple as that. Kalush Orchestra might have been in the top five, had the situation been otherwise. Art, music never happen in a vacuum, ever.
@@CaroAbebe Thanks! You agree, it's political, stratigic and thereby bias on more than just the song or presentations on the night. As you say it's "not in a vacuum" or isolation, but we are told it's a Song contest...that's it! Nothing more.
A well-deserved win for Ukraine and a well-deserved silver for the UK! I was in the hall and all I could say for a while was "wow" after those 439 points rolled in.
They really have to get rid of the juries. They reward songs that the public clearly dont like. Switzerland, Azerbaijan and Australia are good examples this year.
it has been explained year after year why the juries are necessary. it is to even out block voting and the fact that televoters are incredibly biased. We knew Ukraine was getting massive votes from the televote weeks out from the final and that speaks volumes to why the public cannot be trusted to vote fairly. The juries votes frankly were far more fair compared to what the public did.
@@starskreem8258 did we watch the same programme? Azerbaijan got 12 points from some juries, while some rewarded the UK zero. Thats not fair at all. And songs like Serbia and last years Ukrainian entry gets robbed by the juries. The jury votes should at last reflect some of the public taste.
@@mullally1982 Did you watch the final. 10 countries scored 10 points or less from the televote which is unheard of. Azerbaijan getting some 12 points from the jury isnt that big of a deal since the song was sung well. (Not my personal taste) The juries are there to reward songs based on the whole package. Televoters didnt care at all this year. If they did Ukraine would not have gotten so many 12 points. The song was good but not that good and Moldova did not deserve to be second in the televote.
@@starskreem8258 well, Im not alone in thinking there is a problem with the jury votes. And you base things on your personal opinions. I guess we just have to agree to disagree 🙃.
The running order was made with a point (having Sweden or UK win + Ukraine in "the very middle - neutral - focus point" + trying to "preserve" Italy even if they picked "1st half" in the finals + discreetly burying France and Greece), the point was made and heard. Would it be only for that, I'm glad that Ukraine won: no matter how Rai tried to "trick" this with the running order, it still wasn't enough to dictate a winner. Except that, of course, I really doubt that Ukraine would have won without the war going on (as if winning Eurovision would change anything to an actual most deadly war or in how the Russians or even Putin see that war... but well, Europeans seem to think a song contest was the place to make a political point.) I'm shocked at the level of negativity under Italia's video on RU-vid. I agree that they did A LOT better at the national performance, but does it deserve such hate? They didn't win anyway, so... why burry them under the ground? I'm so disappointed in the score France, Greece and Czech Republic got from the public. In the comments for the France song, someone says France was her favorite but was sure it would win or rank high, so she gave all her points to Serbia so that the singer would have even if a few: one good way to remember that you should always vote for your favorite. Always, no matter what! Also, some people are commenting about the differences in votes and rankings between semi-finals and finals (which, for some countries, are HUGE): in my view, it might show how the people voting in semis are actually different than in finals? And probably less votes for - politics - in the semis? This was a great Eurovision until semis, from the moment the running order for the finals was announced it started smelling really bad (these should be planned for music, not for politics or a specific winner in mind...), and with the way it turned out... Eurovision 2022 will probably remain as one of the Eurovisions I'll hate the most. Even if there were some songs I absolutely loved here: too many fishy stuff around it.
I still wonder what happened to get such a low result for France: U gave me a small part of the reason. France should withdraw from the contest for a while: the country has obviously a strong disagreement with the juries first and the audience secondly. Luxembourg & Italy did it. Italy was missing 13 years & it came back successfully: having been in the top 10 almost each year since its return at ESC in 2011. Something hasn't worked between France & the contest properly most of time since the late 90's. Moreover it would be a way of recovering self-respect for Molière's country: it belongs to the Big 5 that is the group in which the countries paying the most to make Eurovision show be true every year are. This money mainly comes from public taxes (TV licence fees) & could be much better used during this withdrawing. France is only accepted by the EBU that organises Eurovision and the audience ONLY thanks to its huge yearly amount of money. True recurring facts.
@@Kapok-Bush-TdK Well, last year we were 2nd. in 2016 we were 6th, and in between we ended in 10-something: not great but not BAD. And definitely not enough to think we are doing something super wrong here. Especially when some countries keep on voting for their neighbours first and foremost while we never benefitted from or gave such points. So... something was very wrong this year, not just for France, and I absolutely wouldn't say that's because France sent something wrong. As for me, I like none of the first four songs. While last year I could give credit to the first songs without any issue. Voters had weird tastes this year (VERY commercial), that's all, it happens. For example, I'm really not sure Maneskin would have won this year. As for me I learnt the names of a few artists I will probably keep on following within the years, definitely not part of the top rankers, and for my selfish part that's enough, I can absolutely survive with a majority of the voters this year not agreeing with me.
Apsolutely not deserved. They won because of war in their country not because the song was best. And when you put a politic in music show, that show doesn’t have sense anymore.
@@PonchoSaGo The judges gave too many points for rap music, the song has no quality for a winner and is not unforgettable. People voted out of empathy "and that's all"

@@inka1780 i think you miss understood my question. my question is should we send in another dutch song as this is the best we could do with our language. Send in an average English song and you get a average result from the votes or better, we saw that like a million times. Do we send in a dutch song like the best that we ever could do ( to be honest, i don't think we can ever top this ) you still get an average result. 11 place isn't the result we want with a beautifull song like this. Its better too keep it save with a English song where you "have" a chance too win. With a Dutch song, we know now, its impossible.
@@makkie211175 I didn't say that winning wasn't important, but that it is not the only thing. And it is for example the VRT broadcaster in Flanders who selects every 2 years the Belgian candidate. Paid partly by my tax money. And should they win, it will cost more.
