Ok. Here's a viewpoint from the UK. Over the years the contest has drifted, from being about songs to being about performance. The backing dancers, the light shows, the fireworks, dance routines, costumes, moving sets - all designed to outshine the next country. They have forgotten one thing of importance: the songs! the singers have so much dancing to do they can't sing correctly anymore. The music is no longer performed live, it is digitised, I think the backing vocals are also digitised, so why not just go ahead and make it all digitised, have the performers mime to their song and they can then concentrate on performance. Call it what it has become the Eurovision Performance Contest. Thankfully one song does stand head and shoulders above most of the rest - France (thank you France!) a fantastic live singer, just singing! and a fantastic song in a fantastic way. No dancers, no light shows, twirling boxes or pyrotechnics. Sadly I doubt it will win, but it should, if it is a true Song Contest.
