It's a good idea to do and it only takes a few seconds. EVSE and control modules are very expensive and I doubt insurance will cover it, not to mention car dealers won't cover it.
I live in Britain. The IONIQ has been plugged in and charging in several torrential rain storms. As for lightning, I e never really given it much thought but I recall that the manual does mention something about it.
