£50,000 + for short trips? Ur avin a laugh! No point in even considering it unless it can do 400+ miles fully laden with a roof rack and ladders on. Otherwise it’s useless

Delivery drivers just want a van to be ergonomic so it doesn't cause repetitive use type injuries.

As a person who uses a van to move his bikes, paddleboards and kayaks around, I’m pleased you said hold out. I’m waiting for either the ID.Buzz or eTransit to replace my diesel Vito.

Most of this review was about accelaration, max speed and handling round a test track. Hardly very appropriate for the vehicles under review and their intended purpose.

I'm a massive VW van fan but have the Env200 as it's an absolute little pocket rocket and I can choose if I want it limited.... which I never do. I also have a 212hp Subi powered VW T25 but I wont be going back to VW vans untill they sort the sluggishness out

Bigger ones will be epic for camper conversions. Unless you need to drive somewhere. And they are sooo expensive. VW ID3 IS similar to a diesel Golf. Why not these? Batteries are dead cheap now.

The issues are integrating a large style battery will increase the costs of design and reasurch. The big companies spend millions of dollars per day to ensure these vehicles meet specifications they intend. Vehicle design is 5 to 8 years ahead of actual production, and prototyping takes forever, at least 18 months.

That line about the E-Transit at the end shows what people thought back then. Much more range and performance? Try 68kWh in a full sized (much larger) van - hardly a great leap up from these two.

Of course that's not true. 300 kg of cargo will make like 10% difference at most.

As a driver I will not be looking at these two. Range is too limited and speeds too low. It may be that a multi drop route is less than 70 miles but you can be looking at doubling that distance by going to and from the depot and home each day. This is also a warm weather test, it would be interesting to repeat it in winter. They also do not appear to take into account that a commercial vehicle is rarely empty

To be useable a vehicle would need a range of 200 miles, carrying 800kg in cold weather at up to 70 mph. No good saying "range 200 miles", "load 800kg" or any combination. It needs all 4 or its useless

Even at todays prices of 1.80 per litre £20k is about 100,000 miles worth of fuel, I'm all for electric vans but these really don't make any sense. Why exactly do the cost an extra 20k to make, especially with such small battery packs?

You also have to count in maintenance cost, which is much lower for EVs. But anyway I do not think these models are worth it.

Transit is not as high quality as these two vehicles. These two brands are the kings of the commercial vehicle world. Don't come and say that Transit will crush them better.

@@a2tmfk24 You know nothing, the new Transit EV, is faster, and has a longer range. Also the Vito and Transporter aren’t nearly as practical

The transporter is not actually a VW product, it's a product from ABTe, A german electrification specialist. Artisan electrics have one and hate it. Range of 82 miles??? No, try 52!! I'll stick to my Peugeot boxer diesel thanks!!

the vw transporter 2003 to 2022 is te best van its timeless to see and the biggest in the classe it drives the best and the 4 motions are nuts with 200 + hp love it love my van 😁🤪

They have a smaller battery than a Renault Zoe. It’s a van. It has the space. There’s no excuse for rubbish range and a low power motor

I’ll stick to my diesel BiTurbo VW T5. I was hoping for much more. I do about 150 miles average every time I go out while I have a 290 mile run once a week. So this just isn’t nearly good enough.
