You had a genuine and appropriate response to Eva’s rendition of “Over the Rainbow”. I still tear up and I’ve heard her sing it hundreds of times. She had a cold the evening she performed this and almost didn’t sing that night. So glad her sister was there to record her truly amazing talent and gentle soul.
A true original. There will only ever be one Eva Cassidy and her music will stand the test of time and live on forever. Gone much too soon. Thank you for sharing and keeping her music out there for new generations to enjoy.
Personal opinion, version that pulverizes any other, including the original, a voice that pure gold doesn't do justice to, someone up there wanted it to teach singing to the angels. Nice reaction, thanks!!
This perf was recorded very early January 1996. Worst time to perform in a club like Blues Alley, just after new year’s eve, but it was cheaper. This became legendary. In may she was diagnosed with melisma recurrence and by November she was gone. She was only discovered in 2001 when the BBC played this song and it was a tsunami, they released albums with her studio recordings and it topped the charts there. There are so many good covers, she recreated completely classics in her very own way, and she excelled in different genres. I let others give suggestions, there will be a lot of different ones and they all will be right in their picks.
Final word to say that she was a beautiful soul. Last song she performed live a few weeks before her death, knowing it was her last time on stage ? « What a wonderful world » 😢😱😭
It’s heartbreaking that she died so young but the world is blessed that she left behind many recordings. I’ve got all of her CDs and never get tired of listening to her. Loved your reaction!
Eva passed away in November 1996, From melanoma (skin cancer) at the age of 33what a talent she was..my favourite song by Eva is 'Danny boy' you should give it a listen..
Hi, loving your reactions. This artist does so many beautiful songs and great covers as well. People get ready is a really good one if you ever revisit her or Fields of Gold
She was so very talented and arranged this version of "Rainbow". I believe this was recorded in January, she became really ill (out of remission) in June and passed in November. There are two other songs she did you should give a listen to, even if you don't react to them. "Imagine" and "What a Wonderful World". Wonderful World was the very last song she performed a week before she passed. Thank you for keeping her and her gift alive! Enjoyed your reaction! I'll be watching!
Thank God for her gift to the World and the person who camcorder this and other live performances at a Blues Club where she lived in Washington DC. She insisted on covering a variety of genres and because of that she failed to get a recording contract. They wanted her to choose one or the other for recording purposes. Thankfully a couple of these recordings made it to England and became a smash hit there about two years after she passed. Since then she has been reacted to multiple times and deserves all the accolades she receives for them. Please react to more of her covers of songs like "STORMY MONDAY ", "THE BLUES IN THE NIGHT", AUTUMN LEAVES", "WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD" and so many others
Thank you for your wonderful reaction. It was a blessing to me to see you feel all I felt the first time, and every time since, that I heard Eva sing. She was a very special young lady. You do need to see the story of her life and death. It is on RU-vid. I look forward to seeing more of your reactions. God bless.
Huge fan of the late Miss Eva Cassidy glad this was a fan request now more people will hear this amazing beautiful singer....thanks Saeed appreciate you brother❤.
That was such a beautiful rendition of this song. So sad that she is no longer with us. She died at only 33 years of age. I also love the version by Israel Kamakawiwoʻole. Sadly he also died young at 38 years of age. At least we have their music left as a legacy.
Good shout Dagmar. Sir Cliff Richard als did a superb, upbeat version, which peaked in the UK chart at number eleven, albeit any Cliff cover is automatically world class.
I've requested ' Autumn leaves ' from this very live session performance At least twice before of reactors ... highly recommended ... via eva cassidy channel / the 16 million views one ... My favourite version of ANY musician ...
Absolutely beautiful 😢 Now you have to do Bruddah Iz's version. Isreal Ka'ano'i Kamakawiwo'ole. There is a very good reason why Iz's version has 1.3 Billion views 🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻Sadly put together after his passing 😢
