In the House of Representatives, they are only allowed to talk for a certain amount of time on a particular issue. The Chess clock is so that they are timed I assume and is a very asian thing to do (I'm asian and I loved chess). At the end he strikes out Alice's comment which is exactly what sometimes happens in Congress, comments are sometimes struck/removed from the Congressional record.
This show *can* frickin' hilarious. But they need to smarten up the dialogue and "stupid" people (Mitch), and remove humor that is about stupidity/lack of intelligence. That isn't funny. It's stupid and cringe-worthy. The most successful shows hardly have characters like Mitch - think Frasier. *The smarter the humor is - the more viewers it will attract.*
for every frasier you have more seinfeld(george) and friends(joey) shows. The stupid character is one of the oldest sitcom tropes. Also part of Frasier's humor is Niles stupidity when it comes it lower class social conventions which is a different type of stupid humor.

Probably the worst thing in this show is the acting. Or maybe the editing makes the acting look bad? There are such unnatural pauses, there is such an unnatural rhythm, it makes it so unfunny. The concept should have produced a good show, but it's just bad.
