Even if one thinks 50 Cent deserved to win, he needed a check like this on his entitlement and inflated ego. Women in music have always had their achievements discredited and called into question. I am glad that Amy at least got recognized for her unique sound and talent.
It's literally nothing about her being a woman, 50cent launched his first debut album and it literally shook the world like crazy, look at now a days, 50 is far more relevant, 50 had a more successful album and he still didn't win. Crazy.

Those decades (90s and 00s) I think they'd changed the rules for BNA. Lauryn Hill and Shelby Lynne won BNA even if they're already an established artists.
I guess I'm the only one who likes both Evanescence and 50 cent. 50 shouldn't feel left out cause he went on to become a major rap star anyways and Amy Lee has an amazing voice even to this day.
No I'm same here.. I listen to rap and rock equally much (the good actual meaningful rap and not trap and mumble shits) and both are great.. But fifty went on to become more pop from 2007..

I think the reason why evanescence won this is because they created a sound that was unique. Whether you liked it or not if you listen to their album it was unlike anything else out there. 50 cent had a great album, but he wasn’t that much different from the other rappers.
@@WoockerSocket2 Evanescence was the only band to combine classical music with hard rock though. If you listen to all their songs they weren’t really nu metal by definition. But even if they are put in that category they still were different than other popular nu metal bands at the time like Korn, likin park, and limp biz kit

But when Evanescense mixed orchestra/metal/girlissh/clasic it had not been seen before that(i dunno recall a band like of that spectrum). So I think, in that particular yar, best NEW artist was well earned buy Evanescense HOWEVER if there would have been a award for BEST ARTIST 50 should've won. There is a slight difference between NEW and BEST. I think when grammy says BEST NEW is like when a band presents something NEW, and in fact, like i said it, I dont remember a metal band in that spectrum of Eva. But hey, 50 should've won as BEST ARTIST OF THE YEAR but I dont know if there is such an award for that or if 50 did not win in that category either.

The Music Industry decides what’s popular. Even 50 Cent talked about it, the reason why certain artist are everywhere is cause of the Money in the Marketing behind that artist.
I think 50 cent wanted that because of his ego. You know like 'I'm way popular..' but damn Evanescence was a very dynamic, creative, original, talented band. They really got it well deserved.

Amy Lee is one of most respected women in rock and metal music. She took a vocal range of being operatic to the test. And from what I know, opera is most professional manner of singing. She took a breakthrough to many female fronted bands and not only that, Evanescence is the first hard rock/gothic metal band to being home a grammy.

I think that they both made “Evanescence”, their split - the magic wasn’t there anymore. It’s like Ying and Yang. After their split Ben went on to made an album but it failed tindhart and failed to hit with rock Fans.

Everyone here thinking 50 cent had some sort of crazy impact, while in reality I only heard people talk sht about the guy while I was growing up. How his lyrics were sexist stuff. So yeah, he probably was everywhere, but that wasn't a good thing. Also, did he really just walk up the stage only to show that he refused to congratulate the person who won new artist? And why was he even on stage there? He didn't win. He should be seated. He's just generally not a great person. I'm glad he didn't win. That said, I'm surprised Evanescence was even nominated to be best new artist. That genre of music is heavily underappreciated. It certainly was back then. I suppose Bring me to Life was really a major hit and resonated with a lot of people.

Amen! Talented women like Norah and Amy achieved enormous success and showed female songwriters were still carrying the torch of women in music from the 90s female singer-songwriter boom. Two incredibly distinctive artists that both melded different genres to create a unique sound.

50 cent had the biggest song of 2003 and the biggest album of 2003. He had 2 #1 songs, and a few top 5 hits too in his first year as a major label artist. Since then he’s still made a bigger impact on the rap/music industry than evanescence have EVER had. Also in da club is on Rolling Stones top 500 greatest songs EVER list in 2021.
