spending time as a dad of 2 small girls isnt the issue, its the not being able to go afk at the drop of a hat when one of them is screaming bloody murder in the bedroom. even doing missions is impossible unless theyre asleep. i guess i could bookmark deadspace and hope i can turn and warp to it while going to rescue a kid from a giant spider..

chris szablewski - As you rightly say, a great deal of Eve's gameplay leaves you unable to go AFK at the drop of a hat. The only crumb I can offer you is that not quite everything is like that - my strategy would be to train a market alt with trade skills (4 weeks skilling gets you a very capable trader) and then you can do station trading in Jita (other market hubs are available), buying low and re-selling high whilst being the main responsible parent, and do the other stuff when kids are asleep or someone else is around and willing to respond to life's emergencies whilst you indulge yourself. If you get good at it, you can build-up and maintain a turnover of hundreds of millions to small numbers of billions fairly easily - it gets harder and harder to scale up further than that, but it'll feed a small pvp habit!

@PacoTaco0404040 I second this. In wormholes, you can be very profitable, BUT you do need to be careful as it is risky. It does have the benefit of being able to cloak and warp away to a safe pretty quickly if you get in trouble, or if you need to deal with real life dramas that come up. As a parent, I feel this one only too well. Fortunately my kids are all school age, so it's really good to be able to play while they're at school, and I take an approach that isn't for everyone. I'm skilled in specific combat types, a bit of industry to keep some passive income ticking over, some PI (part of industry) to trickle some income in, mining (I've trained this for months, so it's quite profitable) and exploration. It is possible to 'wear many hats' in eve, but you do need to be prepared to put the time into the training queue to do it all, or have the isk in order to buy skill injectors to go in a direction you really want to go in. Most importantly, play the game the way you want to play it.

Multiple Toons different setups. If you have one toon that has 7 different staging points travel time sucks. One toon for market, one for building, and one for pee vee pee for me. That way every character is 1-3 jumps with proper equipment and skills.

I've just created multiple toons on multiple accounts to specialize into specific things. Eventually they will all be well rounded but right now I can partake in what I'm interested in and not sacrifice anything.

I give you a tip a long time Wh owner if youre new get a scanfrig and go to lowsec but not fration lowsec space to scan to make good money. 2nd keep your eyeballs always on the d scan if a new guy comes into system information is key if you see combat scanner probes on d scan get out!! If you do ratting in lowsec with a t3 cruiser take the stealth module setup to get safly in an out. If you wanna claim a c1 wh first you need an skilled alt who is always there with a skilled t1 scanfrig. If the Wh isnt uninhabitet you can make a lot of isk out of it planetary for all your alts and main is nesseary to fuel the pos and make profit. Also your main chars need the skills to mine and fight well fitted passive tanked heavy misle drake will do the job solo in a c1 and c2. Be aware in Wh there is no local until you write or the enemy otherwise the only chance to spot an enemy is by D scan!!!!!! Click d scan every 20 seks or lower it gets part of your paranoid day but hey theres a ton of isk! One last tip dont claim a c1 or c2 wh with a stable 0.5/1.0 wh entrance its a pain in the ass belive me. Take one with a stable low or nullsec. Btw you will get random highsec whs thats your choice to sell your stuff and bring in new feul and ships..

Addendum: The 2nd point about collateral, put a good premium on it if you purchased something in Jita and you are shipping it to your operating location. Your time in re-purchasing and lost opportunities should be added into the collateral.

That freighter thing is so true. I dont even know if people think it through as much as they should. Everyone is like "oh i have a freighter no i can haul everything" while in reality...everything you buy, youll need to get back with the investment. with an 1mil/jump from the hauler channel. you could like pay someone to haul for you for like 1000 jumps for that one freighter. Did you even think about how much 1000 jumps is for a slow freighter? And i am a trader/hauler saying that. i m usually having one character doing some combat site/ratting and stuff and the other one i m actively doing inter region trading and hauling on. And i sold my freighter even tho i haul alot because its simply not worth it. a freighter is an easy target. you can carry high value goods in it. Its high volume low value and that is nothing worth hauling myself, i make close to no isk with that. if i need a freighter, i pay someone to haul it for me. my Main hauling ship im using 99% of the time is an occator. Its fast with an mwd and stuff, its tanky as sht. The fleethangar isnt scannable. i can do so much money with this thing. the time i did 1 trip from amarr to jita to buy and sell something, my freighter without a web alt wouldnt even be 1 system off amarr. And thats the other HUGE downside that makes the overall profit on freighters even worse to nonexistent. You cannot! pilot a freighter effectively with one alt. You need a webbing alt. and that means, all the profits you make with it are pretty much halved because youre using 2 accounts for one job and you devide it because its allways isk/h per account. that webbing alt could just rat in the meanwhile and doing like 30-40mil isk until the freighter finally arrives. If you are not a professional hauler within like redfrog or something like that...simply dont buy a freighter. get a DST and make money with it
@EventHorizon_Alex
@EventHorizon_Alex 5 лет назад
All great points. I think most people buy a freighter, make a couple of trips with it and then let it gather dust. I know mine wasn't being used much, just to move PI material and I sold it off and just used contracts. Really to save time than anything else.
@MaybeTiberius
@MaybeTiberius 5 лет назад
@@EventHorizon_Alex freighters and jump freighters especially have a purpose! but its not "making isk" for the average player. but more "supply" if youre in null with a JF, you NEED these items, you haul them and probly lose money but it doesnt matter because ... you simply need something down there. at least its my oppinion. i mean you can make money with everything for sure if you find some niche uses for it. but i was the same, bought my providence, felt super awesome. i sold it like 3 days later after realizing i could just haul the same stuff in my orca but in half the time
@jawstrock2215
@jawstrock2215 5 лет назад
If you get a hauler, you basically have to do contracts. Freighter for personal use only is very silly, huge waste of money for .. a very tiny convenience if at all? They are also very risky, as they are magnets to being ganked gate killed in high sec(or at least used to be). I saw so many being destroyed losing billions of goods... then you have the scavengers flying in with salvagers to salvage all the sacrificed frigates that blew it up.... Not sure if this is still a thing with warp to 0km of gate but still.

I was playing Eve for a few days when I thought, "Man it sure would be cool if there was a way to have other people move this shit around." I was already weary of the administrative duties of moving my assets where they needed to be. I had no idea there were courier contracts! I was all over those when I found out somebody already implemented my great idea. I'm so lazy I'll courier something two jumps if I'm going in a different direction. Why the hell should I move it if someone else is willing to for a few bread crumbs?!

I've been doing alot of mining and building things, you really think that shipping things via a contract is worth the profit loss? Ive been worried about opportunity cost versus the deflated economy at the moment eating my profit margins.
@marciusnhasty
@marciusnhasty 5 лет назад
Before making courier contracts inform yourself on which ships have how much cargo space. I've been seeing courier contracts that are to large for industrial, blockade runners and deep space transports - while being to small for any freighter making them not worthwhile for freighter pilots and impossible for T1 cargo and T2 transport ship pilots. All your items in the courier contract get packed as one big package of equal volume as the sum of the items of which he is made of. This observation is as true today as it was true in 2006 when I started.

Don't hang around at a POCO for minutes while doing your PI unless you want to get ganked - do everything cloaked at a safe and then do a drive-by transfer at each POCO.
@PSPSMITH2022
@PSPSMITH2022 5 лет назад
That's how most of us do it. Maybe he's just flying loose because he's alone in system (at least in B-VIP9.) Personally, I prefer operating the same way every time (manage PI while cloaked in safe, then run and pick-up) so I don't get out of the habit and get sloppy.

@JustinMcTavish14
@JustinMcTavish14 5 лет назад
I mean professions not jobs if that wasn’t obvious!
@EventHorizon_Alex
@EventHorizon_Alex 5 лет назад
Those would be jobs that generate ISK without you actively having to do it in order for it to work. Planetary interaction, research, sales/trade, manufacturing and possibly logistics where you set something up and you let it run and just check on it periodically to pick up materials or restart a job. It’s not completely passive, but once you get it going you can go do something else.
@QualeQualeson
@QualeQualeson 6 лет назад
Pardon my ignorance, but how do the haulers keep the goods secure? What happens to the contract when/if they get ganked and lose the cargo?
@EventHorizon_Alex
@EventHorizon_Alex 6 лет назад
QualeQualeson the haulers have several methods, such as re-contracting the shipment so that it’s double wrapped and can’t be scanned. If the cargo is lost then you keep the collateral. So you always want to make sure that the collateral you ask for covers the goods you are shipping.
@QualeQualeson
@QualeQualeson 6 лет назад
Event Horizon TY. So I guess the haulers are quite sophisticated :) They probably also analyse the value of the cargo so they won't be subject to fraud. I kinda like the idea actually. I have a tendency to be drawn to things generally seen as boring in EvE and vice versa. Random PvP? *yawn* lol.

Most people in game are incompetent- so those who prove they are reliable and competent get offered extra work- but any good corp will make sure not to overburden you; more so for the corps survivability than your own; because they know if one dude does all the hauling, all the pi, all the fuel building, all the dread production- that dude will burn out and stop playing, even for a while; which leave the corp in dire straights- so all good corps will spread the load among the few competent pilots they have. If you are getting to the point where you have said yes to too much, talk to your ceo- they wont get mad. If you want, find a replacement before you go to the ceo (hey, this is broke, I have no solution) vs (hey, this is broke, but this will fix it) ceo's appreciate it.

So what do I do if I am the man running an alliance and I don't have enough people that I trust to help me with everyday logistics? Recruitment is not as easy as you make it sound, especially trustworthy and committed recruits
@marciusnhasty
@marciusnhasty 5 лет назад
Rule number one solves almost every problem in EVE ... In the case of running the alliance (or just a single corporation as well) it translates sort of like this: If you don't have enough people which you can trust, you can't afford to do things that require and rely on that much people. Scale down the size of your operations. Trustworthy and reliable players are a resource. They are the most important strategic resource in the game. Don't grow any sort of operations for the sake of growth ending in the perpetual need to recruit more and more people to support that growth. Grow the scope of your activities when the people that you have and can trust don't have enough to do and might get bored. If people have too much work, scale down. If people need more to do, scale up. Sometimes scale up to attract more people, but do that as a disposable investment that you can afford to loose. If it gets you more people than it ended up as the good investment and healthy growth. Otherwise just scrap it. If there are other alliances that rely on what your does and require your to keep doing it, that is exactly the kind of social pressure which is described in the video.
@theLifeSentence-oz4jy

that is what recruiters are for.

PI takes me literally 5 minutes a day, I have only one omega account , so I use only 3 chars but still it makes me a passive income of 600 mil ISK per month , more than enough to get at least 10 mid level ships. With level V skills should around 1 bil per mont and all that in high sec. Playing with the market is very similar , wall street like , you can invest like 10 minutes per day and make a steady income out of it, how much will depend on your experience as a player. But you can cash in a billion per month. Just do it in Jita its a huge waste of time, because of competition and the most dangerous system. Go with Amarr or other trade hubs. Industry is similar too. Those three you can afk when you want, any way you want and as often you want/need. If you can spare an hour doing a DED 4 combat site can land you 150 mil easily , so by an hour a week you can add another 600 mil per month. If 2.6 bil per month is not enough for you with an average of 20-30 minutes per day then the problem is you and not the game and definitely not the kids or you busy life. If you live in low sec as part of good corp you can probably easily triple that amount. Of course it will take you a couple of months to train the appropriate skills in multiple characters (only in the case of PI) but even that is happening when you afk. EVE is by far the most afk orientated game I ever played , ironically its the game that requires the least amount of time. People end up spending more obviously because they have a lot of fun playing. But one claiming that he or she does not have time for EVE is bs. You definitely have the time, the question is whether you will like to spend it playing EVE or doing something else. Of course I am not saying that some activities do not require active participation , if everything was afk orientated this would have been a very boring pointless game.

Why would anyone accept a contract with a higher collateral than reward?
@jawstrock2215
@jawstrock2215 5 лет назад
collateral is paid back on delivery. It's to make sure you don't steal the goods instead of delivering it. Even npc hauling missions have collateral. You want it higher then market value so, if the person never delivers, you can considered you sold the goods for the collateral price. If it's too close to market value, you could have thief thinking they can make a quick buck :).

ok, so instead of making a sensible reply you take it personally and decide to discretely attack some of the content i created that's fine. I'm not the type of person to do that but then again, you got to create content in order for it to be criticized. You are basing your argument on an extreme minority of players, i really don't see why watching EVE videos even if say.... a mind bending 20 minutes long in order to get some tips or advice rather than using your precious time in game possibly making mistakes which would have never have happened if you had got some info from a short video, saving you your precious and limited time ? if you are that interested, you could also listen to these types of videos on a phone while you fall asleep, like an audio book.... unless again you need absolute silence in order to get the max quality of sleep as you only have so much time for that too right. i think you are blowing this out of proportion and taking it personally that i pointed that out.
