Eve: War for New Eden is it good (enough)?! 

Mythic games has nothing to do with kickstarter... they simply offered way too much on their kickstarters, having over $500 and even $700+ pledges, with a ton of work to do. Eve: War for New Eden is doing really well at $400k so far, especially as CCP see it as a success, and we are very likely to see expansions in the future. It's a success story in and of itself and the 200% pledge has been confirmed as a one off pledge that will be made with low order numbers.

I was lucky enough to be sent a prototype of the game, and after (now) nearly two dozen games of it, it's not growing old. Our group is thoroughly enjoying it, despite only one other person in my friendship group being into EVE. I know I sound like a shill, but this has been the best space 4x experience for me around a boardgaming table. It's not as deep as TI4 or Eclipse, but honestly, I kind of wish THOSE games weren't, so that we might actually finish one in less than a weekend. As with all Kickstarters, I think it's impossible to judge just by reading rules (or in the case of WFNE, just watching the graphics on the Kickstarter page) but rather requires diving into the game itself. It's not perfect, sure, but it's smooth to play, versatile, tactically deep and short enough to not overstay it's welcome. I love it. I do think the Capital pledge (200% size game) is frankly bonkers, and several of the stretch goals simply weigh it down with unnecessary plastic... But the core experience is truly solid. ...and the Havoc expansion genuinely excites me too. Not played it yet, but getting a fifth player to the board will already solve some of our issues, and it being asymmetric too...? Yes please.

I am highly skeptical of the listed playtime, especially after watching how combat worked. I've been told by someone who would know what they were talking about, that only 10% of the raised money is profit. 631, 322 euros isn't a lot of money if you look at it from that point.

Would you say there is a lot more detail on the bigger minis? Oh also are the big collectible minis that come per faction the same ones that come in the bigger game?

How does it compare to last light? How long does it really take to play this game? Are the miniatures detailed enough to paint? Oh and are the bigger ones able to be painted and played with on the board with 4-5 people?
