Jokes aside, these 400 meter cargo ships are seriously beautiful and impressive. Maersk started this whole trend with the first triple e class ships in 2013. I do wonder, however, why the superstructure on the ever given is so small compared to other ships like the MSC Gülsün or the Triple E ships.
@@hypercomms2001 Look up the Seawise Giant. It was an absolute goliath compared to this ship. And while they have all been dismantled now, there were several other oil tankers larger than this ship, though the T1-class (largest oil tankers on the ocean today) are smaller than this (this is due to an obvious transition off of oil where less will need to be hauled in the future due to electric vehicles quickly taking up the market share world-wide). Also, the Ever Given is one of 14 ships this size. All in the same class of ship. There are actually a few other cargo ships that are slightly longer than this, but they weigh less so I don't think they can haul as much as this particular class of ship.
@@mashuto Thank you... yes I looked it up... impressive.. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Algeciras-class_container_ship There must be a physical limit to how big these ships can get?
I think this accident will bring in a big overhaul within the shipping industry. Im wary that the Egyptian Authorities report will conclude that human error had a significant part to play in the cause of the crash. Thus the argument to bring in AI controlled ships and subsequent slashing of obsolete jobs in the shipping industries due to the take-over of AI is inevitable. Whats everyone else thoughts on this??
