Let's clear the air to avoid those mistakes! 😅
The correct pronunciation is like “que” - not “cul” which means “ass”, “tail” or “penis”, so you can imagine the awkward scenarios if you get it wrong! 😳

Also a whetstone (queue/queux), or a pool cue.

The anecdote I heard about the word "queue" concerned a woman in a market who asked "où est VOTRE queue" in place of "où est la queue?" His answer was "Oh Madam, I'm sure you don't want to know." Assigning ownership shifted the meaning into the anatomical. Maybe safer to say "ligne d'attente." I think female cat/chatte might also be okay in a general sense, "There is a cat with kittens outside." But, assigning ownership would suggest a similar shift. Of course, I might be wrong.

@@FrenchinPlainSight Very kind of you of course, but, I merely stole this from an anecdote from a book by an American Expat who made the move back in the 1960s (IIRC) I'm thinking her name was something like Polly Plath. It was an enjoyable book, but, I'm sure you have many personal experiences equal to hers. Thank you so much for your videos, they have been very helpful!

A better expression would be "une file d'attente"...

@@yohanannatanson4199 Yes, a French friend of mine suggested the same, and I agree.

Reminds me of Cédric Klappisch's film L'Auberge espagnole. The French guy says "ma copine va à la fac (meaning la faculté i.e college)" and every other roommate understand that his girlfriend goes to the f. word...

0:52 no. We would hear “do the neck?”

No, since "cou", "que" and "cul" are all pronounced differently. "coup", "cou", "coût" share a pronunciation. "que" and "queue" share a pronunciation. I found some natives say the same, some say different. Thanks for pointing that out. forum.wordreference.com/threads/que-queue-prononciation.3792615/ "cul", "tu", "vu" share the same "u" sound.

@@FrenchinPlainSight No problem. It’s always fun. 🤩 when I was in Paris i heard the distinction. In Nice it wasn’t there. In Canada it is even much more distinct!
