Purpose of this Video is to test the power draw of the Everdrive GBA Mini vs the EZ Flash Omega Definitive Edition.
Another creator, makho, created a spreadsheet of power usage of both when testing in June 2021. Since 2 years passed, I wanted to see how they'd stack up.
His spreadsheet: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
For the Test:
GBA Model: AGB-001
Everdrive Tested: krikzz.com/our-products/cartr...
Firmware: v1.05 w/ GBAOS at v1.16
EZ Flash Omega Definitive Edition: www.amazon.com/EZ-Definitive-...
Firmware: v1.03
All tests are at 3V. The sound is off for all tests.
As seen in the video, sleep mode on Super Mario Advance 4 did not work. It would go to sleep and immediately wake. After the video, I deleted and re-added the ROM and deleted the sav file. The sleep mode still did not work. In it's place, I used my Pokémon Emerald ROM Hack that includes a sleep mode, which did work.
Super Mario Advance 4:
Everdrive: 121mA
EZ Flash: 112mA
Sleep Mode:
Everdrive: 43mA
EZ Flash: 37mA
Pokémon Emerald:
Everdrive: 123mA
EZ Flash: 114mA
Tetris DX (on Goomba Emulator):
Everdrive: 88mA
EZ Flash: 87mA

Thanks for taking the time to do this. It would be interesting if you could get some data on total power draw from each of the flash cards over a given period of time, it might paint a clearer picture for which would win in terms of power consumption. That being said it would likely be difficult to keep the variable of operating the game consistent. Either way thanks for looking into this.

Thank you for the useful video! This is exactly what I was looking for. Great findings regarding the current power consumption of both products. This was my main reservation about the EZ-ODE versus the EDMini. Seems like for the $20 more you don't get much with the EDMini other than maybe slightly better build quality and easier to insert SD card

Appreciate this video. Too much chatter on the internet, especially after ez flash stated they are now lower power consumption.

They aren't necessarily lower overall though if you watch the multimeter the whole time and not just when he's in game. The Everdrive never went above 142maH at any point but the EZ flash was reaching over 200maH when loading games and saving etc. Power draw on the Everdrive was a lot more stable. The EZ flash may have been achieving a lower idle power draw in the game but any time he changing games or loading menus the power draw shot up massively. I suppose the only real way to genuinely test it would be to actually use both devices while monitoring their power draw over a decent session and see how much total power was drawn rather than just looking at a snapshot of the power draw in a couple of games. Because it's not the whole story. If you like to swap games a lot then those 200+maH spikes will add up. It's still anyone's guess which one will have more overall playtime off a battery charge.

I tested 3 games on my ezflash omega de, metroid fusion, FFVI, and Mariokart super circuit by just leaving them sit on demo mode at default brightness at max volume until they died, with an ips v2 screen and a 900 mah cameron sino battery i got roughly 7 hours per game, there were slight variations but they were always roughly in the 10 to 20 minute range. Ezflash omega definitive edition is a lot cheaper where i live and everdrives are always out of stock. I actually think everdrives are wayyy over hyped, but I've never used one, so maybe when and if they're ever(drive😅)back in stock i can see if it's any better than my ezflash ode. Thanks for making these tests.

Is this a Revision B unit? Revision B has EZODE written in the back of the PCB, whereas Revision A has OMEGA DE. From the looks of what I can see, it seems to be a Revision B unit. Perhaps that's where the difference lies.

Does this mean the ez drew less power, is more power efficient and has a longer battery life? How could it be you got such a different result then the other guy ?

hard to say really because the stable power draw for both on the same game was pretty close with the EZ flash having slightly lower but then when you look at the power draw for the EZ flash overall, it jumps up to over 200mah in places which the Everdrive never reached. So overall the EZ flash might still drain batteries faster even though sitting still in Mario shows lower power draw.

I get roughly 6 hours 57 minutes when playing metroid fusion on my ezflash omega definitive edition, never had an everdrive so I can't comment on that, where I live everdroves are like 60 bucks more expensive and are always out of stock.😢
