The Everett Railroad is a 23-mile shortline operating out of Claysburg, Hollidaysburg, and Martinsburg, PA. Since 1984, the reborn Everett Railroad has steadily increased as a freight provider and occasional excursion host. In 2015, the railroad was able to bring back regular tourist trains with their steam engine 11.
This Everett 11 was built by Alco in 1920 for use in Cuba but stayed stateside on a Rhode Island shortline by 1923. At only 55 1/2 tons, this 2-6-0 "Mogul" was a very suitable engine for shortlines. From 1937 to 1949, it wound up working at another shortline in New York. In 1955, it became a centerpiece for "Rail City" at Sandy Pond, NY, becoming an early preserved steam engine for tourism. The 11 moved around from various owners until purchased for the Everett Railroad in 2006. Following nearly a decade of restoration work, the new Everett Railroad 11 debuted in October 2015. The engine and tourist trains have since been a hit, having operated consistently since.
In the time since its return to steam, the 11 has operated throughout the Everett Railroad system. This video provides a look as the 2-6-0 operates on all three major stops on the line. From the regular trips to Brookes Mills, to specials through Roaring Spring and Martinsburg, to deadheading to Claysburg, it's all here in this long video. We hope you enjoy this extensive look as Everett 11 goes on a complete steam tour.
Details on the trips:
0:00 - Regular Trips, Hollidaysburg to Brookes Mill
The regular trips operate in just over an hour. The engine handles the passenger train through the woods and along branches of the Juniata River. At Brookes Mill, the engine runs around in a siding and brings the train tender first back to Hollidaysburg. These trips were filmed during various winter runs in 2017.
17:22 - Special Trips to Martinsburg
For special events, trains operate all the way to Martinsburg Junction. The engine has to work hard over a persistent grade in and out of Roaring Spring. At Martinsburg, the engine is turned on a wye, marking a rare occasion one can see the engine face forward both ways.
This was filmed during two different NRHS events. The first one (all passenger cars) operated as part of the 2018 NRHS Convention, with a few stops for photo runbys. The second was operated by the Washington DC Chapter NRHS, with a special mixed train (with freight cars) for photographers. This was a rare time the entire train was turned at Martinsburg.
34:08 - Return to Claysburg Shops
After all trips, the 11 deadheads back to the Claysburg shops. This ends up adding an extra trip down the regular route through Brookes Mill. After trips to Martinsburg, the engine must turn around at the junction in Duncansville, which includes a brief trip over Norfolk Southern. From there, the 11 heads briskly back to Claysburg. At East Freedom, the route is paralleled by Dunnings Highway, making a remarkably easy chase.
Following the DC NRHS charter, Everett 11 deadheads with the flatcar. The loaded 1950s tractor was provided by the fireman for the day.

That bell needs a little work... it rings super fast and only swings backwards... other than that fantastic job
@joneau261

I actually was kind of amused that they still hadn’t changed the bell mechanism to ring forward in the 18 month span this was filmed. You can actually see it being hand rung during the Claysburg segment.

The railroad doesn't usually run to that spot with steam. It's to the west of the Martinsburg wye
