I don’t really have alot of people in my life who want to talk about the books chapter by chapter like this so thank you so much for your perspective! Even though I have a few different opinions on your chapter reviews it’s so nice to hear someone else’s perspective on why they like the books. Make me understand why I like the book better.

One of my favourite chapters would be the Catelyn pov, centering around Brans assassination attempt.. I loved the small action sequence with Catelyn and Brans Direwolf, and the alliance forming against the Lannisters. Its such a powerful chapter exploring grief and the writing is some of the strongest.

I agree I don’t remember where I placed it but it is beautiful story telling one of my favorite aspects of this book is grief and how characters react to it. Dany is a personal favorite in that category later in this book

I’ll watch the rest of your video later, but dude massive props on compiling and ranking all 73 chapters! I know that must have taken a lot of work. Holy smokes man, congrats! Looking forward on your retrospective for Clash of Kings some day!

Sansa Stark: "You have to be smarter than father. You need to be smarter than Robb. I loved them, I miss them, but they made stupid mistakes and they both lost their heads for it." This line alone sums up everything wrong with how the show handled Sansa.

Daenerys X is GRRM's best chapter in the whole series. Too bad most of Daenerys chapters after that are meh

@@TheGreaseGoblins great video, and great list. Doing these rereads and balancing school must definitely be a daunting task 😅. I agree with your top 10 for the most part, and as you said how much you enjoy those mid tier chapters really depends on what the individual reader wants from character and plot. Personally I'm not as big a fan of Danny's chapters, and I love the Sansa chapters. I totally agree that the last Danny chapter is just too iconic not to be #1 and Ned's death is up there too. This is probably the most consistent book in quality for me. I really just love the Sansa chapter with the Hounds backstory. I might have missed it but where would you put the prologue chapter, I definitely have all the prologues in the top 5 for their books?

@@rydergardner4625 Prolouge's to me a re weird because espeically this one's is well written but I don't hve the meotional attachment to any of the characters like the regular povs. I had it around 39 so like the middle.

What do you think about the dichotomy between Ned and Tywin? Which one is the right way to go? Ned: Being honorable got him and his family betrayed and slaughtered and his house being seized by the Boltons overnight, but somehow his post-mortem legacy helped the northern houses unite to take back Winterfell (not really “unite” per se because there are some that are neutral or side with Boltons like Dustin, Ryswell, half of Umber, half of Karstark but you got the idea). Tywin: Being ruthless and abusive scumbag secured his family fortune for many years now but it also caused Tyrion to betray and kill him. And thanks to his genocidal method, many houses are now undermining the reign of his daughter and some of them even eye for revenge (like the Martells, the Targaryens, the Blackfyres, the Tullys, the Starks). His legacy went to 💩 like how he died but at least when he’s still alive, he put his family into the highest position of wealth and power in the realm.

Ned is the right way to go. He is well loved and respected. Even after his family is out of power people are still trying to get his children back in power. Where as the Lannisters fell as soon as Tywin did which was a product of his own mistakes.

@@TheGreaseGoblins Have you watched Shogun? I would love to discuss Shogun with you because that show seems to show another way which is somewhere in between Ned and Tywin.

@@nont18411I actually binged shogun a few days ago but I dont really understand why people like it so much. I felt like after a few episodes there wasnt really anything tp drive the plot forward. Instead it was just waiting and waiting for the climax of the conflict which kept getting pushed back further and never really came. When it comes to Toranaga its difficult to judge him. He was in a tough spot to take power since he was overwhelmed in numbers. I understand thats why he had to go for something risky but sending mariko to try to flip the queen was too risky / random / far away from the viewer that it felt like plot armor to me that it all came together. Overall I think hes very tactical but in my opinion his strategy relied too much om things outside his control to make him a top tier player of the game of thrones. I also feel like he didnt really have real competition. The motives of Ishido and the other lords were super straight forward and if they were more skilled Toranags would have never won. (I also disliked how Johns character became almost completely useless in the last few espisodes)
@nont18411
@nont18411 Месяц назад
@@wilmer4421 The novel itself was based on real Japanese history during 1600 and I wanna tell you that, the real conflict around the battle of Sekigahara was so much more chaotic and complex. The battle actually happened and the real life Toranaga didn’t win automatically like in Shogun. The real life Ishido was a much tougher opponent than the show Ishido and the real life Toranaga had to use a lot more tactics and cheating to win. He was even more scorched earth than Tywin.
