EVERY Ability in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Ranked from Worst to Best 

So, when I got Tulin and Yunobo, I thought to myself, 'man, I bet every Sage is going to have a way that they automatically activate, the way Tulin does with the Paraglider and Yunobo does with vehicles.' Not only is it weird to think that Sidon and Riju don't get the same treatment, it would make their abilities so much better. If Sidon automatically gave you water protection when you started guarding - like Daruk did in Botw - or Riju automatically started charging when you pulled out your bow and started to aim, then it would make them so much easier to use.

I think Tulin's Vow also deserves a special mention for the fact that unlike all of the other Vows, which use melee weapons unless you strap a cannon onto Mineru's Construct, the lad uses a bow and he is a *_ridiculously_* good shot with it. I once had a Lynel fight where Tulin headshot it while it was charging _four separate times,_ and I kept having to turn him off just so I could get compendium photos of Octorocks and elemental Keese lmao.

It’s actually possible to use Riju’s vow for mining, especially useful when there’s a huge load of rubble and you can alternate hers and Yunobo’s

Honestly, I like the sages vows not because of their abilities, but because I love the company while traveling.

The thumbnail made me think you were going to talk about the abilities each outfit grants Link, which is definitely what you should talk about next. And general uses of outfits for the ones that don't gain set abilities, obviously.

The super special secret ability is really good for when a weapon breaks and ya need to make space/stun

One thing you missed with Riju is that she can also destroy rock walls with her lightning so chaining her and yunobo can really help to get through some of the filled tunnels

7:01 To defend the Vow of Yunobo a bit, due to it being considered Fire Elemental damage, it is able to instantly kill most Ice enemies, warm up Frost Talus' and make Gibdos vulnerable.

I feel like bullet time/flurry rushes should've been mentioned, since it's like, the only ability that Link technically owns. It's kinda funny to imagine he'll lose literally all these new abilities postgame (assuming Zelda steals the Ipad again)

Alright, here are my suggestions for the activation of the vows: Riju: Draw your bow and press A to start charging lightning. Press A again to cancel. Yunobo: Hold R, then press A to ready Yunobo. Sidon: Hold ZL (ig this could still get annoying) Tulin: same Mineru: same

Mineru is absolutely goated when it comes to mining for zonaite. one attack breaks a huge arc in front of you and you can ignore the little patches of gloom dotted around. Just fast travel to a deposit, mine and travel to the next. But other than that she's in the pokeball waiting.

I think the vow system would work better if you got the prompt for the lightning while aiming with a bow, or prompt for the bubble while blocking.

Honestly, the way I would have fixed the Sage’s Vows is just tying them to situational inputs. For example, like how when you’re paragliding, Tulin appears beside you so you don’t need to find him yourself to find it. For Riju, you can ONLY ever use her vow by shooting an arrow. SO, they should make it so that when you draw an arrow, Riju appears next to you, meaning any arrow you draw could be a lightning arrow without needing to find her. For Sidon, make it so that Sidon appears next to you when you use your shield. For Tulin, he already works like this, and he is the most comfortable to use. Thoughts?

I'm hoping that the map on the ability wheel is a placeholder for an ability we will get in future DLC for Tears of the Kingdom.

My favorite use for the Earthquake Scroll is probably on Little Froxes. Sure, it does take two hits to bring them down, but it doesn't consume any durability and can get you a lot of Zonite for free. For best results, try this out in the Rist Mines, because that place is teeming with Frox.

Also you can actually restore weapon durability. Find a rock octorock and have it suck up your weapon. It will then sput it out restored. Yes, this works for bows and shields too.

at this rate there will be more Tears of the Kingdom tier lists than Terraria has final updates

I feel ascend is a bit better than Tulin. Tulin is still by far the best vow, but ascend can be used to cheese so much of the game with hover stones it kind of insane. I skipped almost half of the puzzles in the dungeons with ascend alone

A glitch i believe that I discovered with Tulin, is if you redeploy glider a few times while his gust is active, it keeps the speed you get from it, i call it his "wingo flingo"

Btw tulins ability becomes pretty nutty if you open and close your paraglider, itll send you flying forward at breackneck speeds and youll keep that momentum

I love how ascend, ultra hand and recall work together in puzzles, like lifting a platform with ultra hand, then use recall to keep it in place and then ascend onto it.

Tulin is in a good place, but his ability is better than you think. It triggers every time you open the paraglider, as long as you're in the wind stream or above/below it. You can actually trigger it 3-4 times every time it activates, with practice. You lose a bit more height, but you gain a TON of speed in exchange. And by "a ton of speed", I mean you can easily go across a whole zone.

I would definitely rank Riju's higher. She's probably the sage ability I use the most. The fact that her lightning simultaneously gives your arrows a lighting effect an explosion and the ability to start fires is actually kind of insane. She's my go to for mining and she makes archery so much more viable due to the extra damage she gives your shots and the fact that they become AOE attacks. It's basically having unlimited bomb arrows that as an added bonus don't kill you.

even though sidon was my first sage (so I didnt know about tulin and yunobo having their automatic stuff when flying/riding), I still fully expected sidon to give you some kind of boost in water or just something when swimming. Maybe just like Tulins wind gust but for swimming. Im really shocked they didnt do something like that it seems so obvious

You forgot to mention a utility of Autobuild in that instead of zonai contraptions you can also just use it to convert zonaite into bombs.

They should make all sages run up to you based on context, bow drawn? Riju is next to you for easy lighting, shield out? Sidon is ready to give you his water shield. Stuff like that would make them far more useful

Ascend feels like kind of an evolution of the hookshot. Also the amount of time I've spent chasing Yunobo around when all i want is to just break open a wall is hilarious

riju can also break rocks btw. if you use both her and yunobo you can drill through large patches of rocks with ease

a good suggestion I saw was to replace the Map Rune with a Sage Rune and using it would open up a wheel with space for the sages, and you could select which one you want to activate, instead of having to go hunt down the sage in your little traveling band

Ascend and recall is the most useful thing to get shrines done and I mean it, it’s so good.

Sidon’s ability is actually pretty useful for not only water warrior and a free hit but also to cool you down in hot environments. If you just keep activating his ability you don’t need to eat anything or wear any clothes that reduce heat

The earthwake is essential for funny meme runs of TOTK where you don’t use weapons. 😂

Mineru is a free jump pad that you can enter bullet time off of. That is unironically the best part of her vow. The second best part is that she can be used to break ore without wasting durability on your weapons, or causing the drops to go flying all over the place like Yunobo does. Yunobo is still useful for breaking walls though. Mineru is probably the most useful sage ability in active combat situations due to the aforementioned jump pad deal and because she can stunlock staggerable enemies without wasting any durability. Earthwake can do the same, just more slowly. Finally, attach some hammer parts to her arms and she's probably one of the most consistent ways to beat Froxes, since the height she gives is perfect for easily shooting them in their eyes, all while staying on her back. While I would still place Tulin higher due to his wind ability being just so incredible (and if you want to count the way they fight alongsde you automatically, is objectively the best due to having a bow), she's personally at bare minimum on par with Ascend in my eyes, and realistically higher, just due to how many places she can be used effectively.

Honestly, Mineru is great for mining ore deposits in particular, as her arm swings can still break them in onehit even without anything attatched to them. Not to mention that her swing has a decent range to it, so you can break multiple deposits at once with the right angle.

Something I really wish they did was instead of having the map on the wheel, you should have the vows there. You push L for the vows and then push another button to select the vow you want. A for Tulin, Y for Yunobo, ZL for Sidon, ZR for Riju, and X for Mineru.

I was hoping you’d include flurry rush and bullet time with the arrows, but I pretty much agree with this list regardless. Great job!

Riju and sidon's abilities could have been so good if they activated in other ways. Imagine if riju's circle started when you pull back your bow or Sidon activated the water shield when you pull out your shield. These abilities are so cool but activating them in this way makes no sense

Super special secret ability actually does more damage the longer you hold it, it's not too much but it's something.

I think the earthquake attack is mainly supposed to be for a situation where your weapon broke and you didn’t realize and now a boss is right in front of you. You can bump him back a little bit I stead of just taking that hit

You can actually still get the amiibo gear from the amiibo so if you don't want to run around the Depths looking for them you can still get the gear form Amiibo, so it's not completely useless. I got like... 5 bigger on swords from it (I mainly do it for easy ingredients but a new sword is fun)

I will say I used mineru ALOT in combat but only because you can activate bullet time after dismounting since you’re in the air. I didn’t actually use the *mech* too much, but I used the added altitude lol. It made fighting gleoocks much easier since I could quickly bullet time and shoot down the heads without trouble.

The camera probably belongs where it does but it also has an extra use. Kinda like Taluses from BOTW and this, the camera can tell an evermean from a tree, helping to prevent some nasty surprises.

Sidon's more useful than he seems. When you activate him, you become completely immune to overheating (from the desert during the day or from being in a volcano) for two full minutes, allowing you to use other clothing and food in those areas. You can destroy ore with Earthwake. I've done it. I don't trust Mineru with the elemental stuff... I've been electrocuted by her too many times because she chose to attack the same enemy I was attacking. I just give her spiked balls and fallen ruins now.

with yunobo in grassy areas you can use him sorta like rivali's gail by using yunobo that set the grass on fire and makes an updraft but it does only work in grassy areas and it doesn't work when it's raining

They should have used the map slot as the sage ability selector. Have them brought up with that + ministick to select

I played through totk with the intent on completing every shrine without doing the intended solution, and it was comedic just how many shrines got skipped just from the "grab item with ultrahand, lift it up, put it down, climb on top, use recall" combo

re: gibdo: you don't need to fuse anything to arrows to apply elemental damage to them, you can just throw blue chuchu jelly at them

Yunobo's vow can also get you easy bullet time by burning grass and using a paraglider. Very useful for lynel hunting

The only reason I can think of for the map to be on the ability wheel is for those who are playing with a GameCube controller to access the rest of the Purah Pad. That includes the standard GBros configuration, too.

The SECOND I realized that you can’t attach fused weapons to Mineru’s mech was the second I started to neglect Mineru’s mech.

I use earthwake mostly to stun more powerful enemies like moblins or silver enemies and let my sages deal with them when my weapon brakes, but they really should make a quest in dlc to power it up

I don't think anyone can argue Tulin's not the best Sage ability. I can count the number of times I brought out the others on one hand, mainly for big fights like my first Gleeok, but Tulin was probably out for more than half of my playthrough. Also, Recall is much more powerful than I initially thought it would be. I guess I was comparing it to Stasis and it's not as generally useful as that was in combat, but how many puzzles have been solved by holding a platform up for 10-15 seconds and then Recalling it? I'd say all the Zonai abilities save Fuse are more useful for utility than combat with some exceptions particularly for certain bosses (some of which I'm still learning; I only ever thought to use Ascend against Talus).

Oki I agree with the placement of earthwake, but that ability can come in real Clutch under the right circumstances, like that moment when your fucking weapon breaks and a fucktone of monsters are mobbing you and you need some breathing room to get a new one Its also really fun to troll enemies by punting them off cliffs and mountains or into bodies of water while wearing a disguise, I never thought I'd get to juggle a Lizalfos but here we are

4:42 it actually is powerful, since you can land a hit on enemies, even if they are really far away, the stamina recovers quite well, it doesnt break, and it stuns them leaving time to recover.

The earthquake attack actually can break crates (at least wooden ones, I haven't tried metal) and ore deposits, you just need to hit them 4 times.

The only time I've used the map function on the ability wheel was on accident, and trying to get off the ability

I like Mineru for the simple fact that the mech breaks ore deposits with one hit, saving weapon durability. Try the same thing with Yunobo and the ore flies out at Mach 15

Actually, the Earthwake ability CAN be used to break crates and other weak objects if you let go just before it would peter out on it. You can also do this with Zonai devices to activate them. If you're skilled enough, you can control a fan minecart this way! Also, Mineru's construct can be used to break ore deposits and anything weaker than that (e.g. crates and barrels), even without anything fused to the arms, not only saving on weapon durability, but not burning or sending stuff flying everywhere, which is the main reason why I don't use Yunobo's ability for mining ores.

another thing about junobos vow is that you can use it to light grass on fire to make and updraft to brin gyou into bullet time i find t usefull at times in a flat plain

I actually really like the fact that sages can be used for fighting on your side and not only for their vows

You can actually the earthquake to break things like trees, boxes, and ore. It takes some practice and precise timing though.

I could do with more scrolls in the future. They can teach you more techniques for the different weapon types. Like bring the Helm Splitter back and make the quick spin attack as strong as a level 3 spin attack

In a grove of trees, take out that camera, and boom voila, you find there are 3 Evermean (monster trees) mixed in with the grove.

Ya know, when I saw the thumbnail, I though this would include game-changing effects from armor sets, like the Weather-based elemental attacks, the glow effect, and the gliding thing. So I guess a drip ranking would be appreciated. Also, I'm kinda surprised Bullet Time and Flurry Rush aren't on here, given the camera and the SUPER SECRET SPOILER ABILITY are.

I might’ve ranked ultrahand just slightly lower, but only because if an object is on top of the thing you’re trying to move, it becomes incredibly hard to move or manipulate. Nit-picky, I know, because that’s an easy fix, but it’s something I deal with surprisingly often.

4:55 actually it can be used on Crates and Ore Deposits it just takes a 4 hits, And you need to fire it just before it hits.

By the way, you can attach really overpowered weapons to mineru his hand and it’ll do kind of good damage

i personally use earthquake for brightbloom seeds when i run out of arrows in the depths

Tulin and Yunobo both have pretty easy activations (Tulin in the sky and Yunobo on vehicles), which makes me wonder why they didn’t do the same for Sidon and Riju. For Sidon, holding down or X while guarding could automatically give you the water shield. For Riju, pressing down could automatically start her charge. Mineru I felt was fine in terms of using her. However, I wish you didn’t take so much damage while mounted. I almost never used Mineru for battle because it made me a big slow target, and any sort of ranged attack or spear would just K’O all my hearts in a matter of seconds

Side note: you can also use Mineru's construct to walk through lava and mud.

Sidons ability should be activated by pressing a while blocking, as its a shield but also a attack thing.

Interestingly while Yunobo’s ability does it better, you can also use Riju’s to do the same thing. That said it does cost an arrow and some bow durability but since I did the Gerudo before Death Mountain I got some distance with this.

What fabric it used during the tulin section?

I actually like that the Amiibo-locked equipment from BotW is just out there to find in TotK. I feel like microtransations and microtransation-adjacent systems are at their best when any unique items locked behind the pay wall are purely cosmetic in nature. Honestly I think that's a common opinion, given the response to locking a useful ability in SKyward Sword HD behind quite the paywall.

Heck even tho Sidon’s ability is made to help with the water temple boss, the second phase of the fight it’s really not that efficient at clearing the sludge out. Better to use a zonai fire hydrant to clear it out

I'm currently doing a no weapons run over on Twitch, and I can safely say, Earthwake is a lifesaver

Links greatest ability is being able to hold like 60 weapons/sheilds, about 30 change of clothes, more meals than my fridge holds, and a crazy number of random items he can quickly find. Shoot i cant find my keys in a kitchen drawer, but a dazzlefruit among 50,000 items, not a prob for Link.

I hate that I had to use Riju's lightning on the Gibdo hives. I LITERALLY HAVEA BUNCH OF TOPAZ I CAN TAKE IT OUT RIGHT NOW

I would add a item to have a single sage ability on quick select so that abilities like Sidon's and Ryju are more useful
