Never a truer statement!! I spent my late teens, 20’s and 30’s in the army jumping out of planes, killing people and blowing crap up. Never an injury of any kind. Retired joined the labor force for 20 years. Then a freak accident broke my neck and compressed my spine. My body went to hell and everything Randy is saying happened. I was in great shape until I got hurt. Now days I’m lucky just to be able to get out of bed to go fishing. Listen to the words coming out of his mouth. He is right.

Never forget the words of wisdom from Rick Clunn- "Never accept that your best days are behind you". . I'll be 65 in a few months. Yes you do slow down a little but in the past 9 years, I've never had better tournament success. 7 solo wins in 8 years. Wisdom and experience is everything. Most old dudes fade because they are stuck in their ways and methods. Experience and attitude is everything. As is, proper human diet. I am Carnivore! imo. Good job Randy.

Thank you Randy. Be 78 in a few days. You help motivate me to get in better shape, which would be a blessing. I don't believe in short cuts to fishing success, quality of life shouldn't be any different. I think I just changed my new years resolution, thanks again for your wisdom.

I am 82 years old, I workout 4 times a week. Launch my ranger 518 boat by myself and load it by myself, I have fished all over Arkansas all my life, I still enjoy fishing but I don’t fish as long and hard as I use to. I fished some tournaments when I was younger but not any more, I just enjoy going to lake oucahita or lake Hamilton and trying to get a few bites , if I catch some I always release them I just enjoy the the bite and the fight! Randy you are right about exercise up to a point, but your belief system causes you to miss the truth about life! We are all going to die!! As I have told you many times in my comments the most important thing in life life is knowning what happens when we die! If you don’t know this you have no wisdom, if you only had the passion you have for the physical body for our spiritual souls you would study more about life after death and eternity, heaven and hell, maybe you could understand the TRUTH about life!!! You are urging everyone to get in the gym, well I am urging you and everyone to get in the BIBLE , GODS WORD and study it deeply! The Bible tells us how to have a perfect glorified body forever after we die ! Randy I know you don’t believe any of this but I challenge you again study the Bible in depth and see that God loves you and wants to open the eyes of your heart to see the real truth about life! God bless you ! John 3:16

The more I study the Bible the more I believe the way I do. Im convinced most christians do not and have not read the Bible because if they would have, they would have tons of questions about the insanity of it. Scriptures like when the Bible says people should be burned for nonsensical offenses such as in Leviticus, where it says that the daughter of any priest that says profanity things to her father will be burned to death. Do you actually agree with that? The more you study the Bible the more you will understand that it is a book written by men to control other people. And to keep them in fear while doing so.

@@danielmyatt3494 I thought you said god loved all his children? Except those like me that don’t agree with the fact the Bible says treat your slaves good/stone adulterers to death, burn kids who are disrespectful to priests/don’t believe snakes can talk or that 500 year old men can father children. Those children who find that impossible to believe will be sent to suffer eternally in some ever lasting hell. I stand behind my statement any god who would do that is a psychopathic killer I want nothing to do with. I’ll seek love and compassion instead.

You are definitely correct. I'm 72 and still in the media side of fishing and shooting after 51 years, which is definitely a teaching process. As for the physical side of things, I also work as a Trail Tamer for a conservation department, which keeps me constantly exercising with tree work of all types, mowing areas on steep hills by hand with larger mowers can not safely go, and clearing/maintaining and building new trails. Virgil Ward, Bill Norman, John Campbell, Lonnie Stanley and Forrest Wood, all played parts in my career, and from them I learned a lot. Now, as you said, the younger ones don't want to listen, and is why I turned down a TV gig on a regular show with a young woman as the host. After I didn't sugar coat anything and told her my age, she knew it would go well for the younger audience that she was wanting to play to for her ratings. So guys listen to Randy. He knows what he is talking about. When I had my radio show I was reporting about his first tournament accomplishments, as well as in my newspaper and magazine columns. Hang in there Randy. You are still a young man to us older guys. 🤣

Randy spot on. I am 53 years old. I will fish a tournament here and there. But at this point and time I don’t ever recognize bass fishing today. When I was in my late 20’s early 30’s we always respected our elders bass fishermen. I met Zell Rowland Tommy Biffle in 1998 and was like in awe just having conversation with pros you looked up to the older guys was a privilege. Showing respect was mandatory.

Randy is absolutely right here. While I am not in a gym, I am outside walking and climbing hills at least 3 days a week. Winter is where I hit the treadmill and do light weight lifting to keep my fitness level up to where once Spring gets here I am ready to roll. I have even gotten back into riding a bike and that has helped build my leg strength. Excellent topic Randy.

I am right with you Randy. My Father well before he passed on told me that life will pass by very quickly after you hit 40 and each decade that passes gets faster and faster. I just turned 60 in December and I said where the hell did the last 10-20 years go? I tell this to both my sons and they look at me like i am crazy, i suppose I did the same to my Dad but started to see it play out in my late 40's, as this is no joke. Thanks Randy for this wisdom and the younger generations need to listen as life will pass by in the blink of an eye!

I'm 67 and still kickin'. Just shoveled a ton of snow off my driveway here in southern Wisconsin 4 times in the last 24 hours, with a snow shovel! I don't go to a gym but I eat well, drink less, stay active, walk and lift some weights. I started playing guitar. I still get advice from my 90 yr old father (whether I want it or not) I started buying BPS Carbonlite rods and reels because of my tendinitis in both arms. Rod and reel combined weighs 11 ounces. It helps.

For those that have never done much of this training or haven't in a long time, be sure to: 1.) start slow 2.) try to do a little more each workout and 3.) stay consistent/workout regularly. At 64 years old and retired I totally get what you are saying! The time will come when the younger guys hands and fingers will ache and get stiff from holding that rod. Their backs will hurt after lugging a tackle bag around the pond. I also agree about sharing what little knowledge I have. It's rewarding for me when a first time angler comes up to me at a pond and asks for help with their gear or ask how I'm catching fish. I still got to work on that Gym thing but even a good walk is better than nothing. Thanks for making this video. Much gratitude !

Never a more true observation. I am 76 and enjoy standing on the bow of a bass boat. The reality is it takes core strength. The truth is when young you work out for a week and it last months. When you are 70+ you work out for months and it last weeks. I started yoga and Tai Chi along with the machines at the gym. After about 3 months I can hang on that bow for a 8 hr or 2 day club tournament. There is no need to give up what you enjoy, but it does require commitment.

I qualified for the Boston Marathon in 2 of my last 3 marathons. It is fun running past 25 year old in a lot of races:) You definitely can feel younger as you get older. The key is the food -- whole foods nutrition is so vitally important -- and staying active in some way, every day. You don't have to run or lift weights or do resistance training specifically but you do need to be getting these aspects into your daily routine in some way, shape, or fashion whether it's purposeful or just by happenstance.

I hate working out, but doing Jiu Jitsu is so fun and mentally engaging. It's so good for mind and body all around. Especially if you can avoid rolling with spastic/strong 20 year old white belts.

Amen spot on thank you very much for telling the truth I’m 58 and very lucky I can still do the bass fishing and whitetail thing - your 100 percent correct and yes we do have a lot to pass down if anyone what’s to listen thank you again for putting it in the correct context and taking the time to pass it along p.s. Roland martins favorite spot on lake Champlain were his son now Scott Martin fishes every time he comes here is rock river to the west swanton bridge lucky now I can fish it every day seeing I live right here so ya - I will pass down as much as I can and still enjoy bass fishing / eat healthy / exercise keep stress down and Rock on.

At 65 I’ve had to start working on my balance so that I don’t fall out of the boat like I did last year.

Great advice Randy ! I'm 68 still armwrestling against the youngsters . I can fish 10 to 12 hrs a day in Canada for a week. It's hard to fish a jerk bait all day ! But the point is if I didnt work out alot I couldn't do either . Exercise and good nutrition is the fountain of youth for sure .

I agree - I have been in the gym since my 30's. I am 60 and I still fish with my Son and his buddies, and have no problem keeping up with the longer day trips and weekend trips. The guys my age (5years older and younger) don't go near as often as they used too. Randy is correct about getting in the gym, both weight (resistance training) and cardio. Also focus on you diet (healthy eating). You tube is a great resource for how to train in the gym.

I agree withmost of what you've said, but one big point. You have to have support from your other half.

So, so true. Everything you said. Like they say, if you don't have your health, you don't have anything. Can't believe I hit 60 last yr. But I'm trying not to fight it. You've got to age like wine instead of like a hamburger or whatever. And this isn't a plug, but also good supplements like balance of nature has really helped me a lot in the past few yrs. Thx for all you do

I’m 75 and go to exercise class 3 days a week. I walk on the off days, and do the outdoor chores myself rather than paying someone to do it. Randy, you are spot on. It’s true, if you don’t use it you lose it.
