@@ginpau7416 I think it's because they would get old and no longer be in their prime. If you were 23 and got a titan, you would be 36 when you retire. 36 isn't really in their prime. So they probably want people who are below 18 so they will still serve their purpose by the time they are 31.

Bert has even more screentime than himself in his lifetime.

Not to mention an entire deleted chapter of Annie carrying both Reiner and Bertholdt until Reiner steps in. And their time as refuges also doing farm work and discussing their next plan. Annie mentioning she could marry her way into the royal family to which Bertholdt hastily refuses to let happen.

Daniel Rodriguez it was both. Bertolts dad got the treatment but after hearing his son died he lost the will to live. It’s in episode 5 and it’s heavily implied.

@@18twd Bert has a high amount of screentime in season 1 (even if it's mostly as a background character) and he's one of the main villains in seasons 2 and 3. He's always kinda overshadowed by Reiner until season 3 part 2, but you'd have to be insane to think he has little screentime.

Spoiler for Hellworld (ShitPost) Bertholdt is the son of Aarchon and Calvi is actually a Chaos agent exploiting the Colossal Titan by trying to mix with Aarchon blood and the Colossal Titan. Aarchon have the blood of Horus which make Bertholdt connected to the Manperor.

Berthold is the most manipulable among candidates, they needed to be sure that the colossal woulden't go against Marley

Bertholdt was calm. He was the only one who could've controlled the Colossal Titan without any trouble in decision making and plan.

His death always makes me sad. Died not knowing whether Annie was ok or not, had no idea where Reiner was and moments before his death literately being treated like a sack of meat on who he was going to be given to to survive.

Yeah, but if I were to be honest, all those Titan shifter that were eaten by Titans are not actually dead. They are in the paths. Where living and death neither exist. Berthold reunited with Zeke and Armin in paths. Armin actually apologize to Berthold for the feeling like he robbed everything to him.

Wouldn't it be so much realistic if instead Reiner was the one to die? Bertholdt would've been the one to escape and he wouldn't be himself without his bestfriend. He would've gone full psycho on Eren and the others, especially Armin.

Japanese manga are read from right-to-left, and anime pretty much copies the scenes from the manga. Bertholdt here is on the left side, while Pieck is on the right. If Intelligence is mentioned first, the speech bubble in the manga would be on the right side, meaning that Pieck is the intelligent one. Marksmanship is mentioned next, so it would be on the left side, which is Bertholdt. The anime removes the speech bubbles for voice acting, so I can see why you think that.

Also it reminds me of the last thing Dina said, she turned to Grisha and told him that no matter what she'll always find him. When she got there she went to Erens house.
