I want to see a ranking of MP2 boards. This game is a HUGE step-up from the OG Mario Party. The boards have less annoying luck-based mechanics, the minigames are more skill-based and less luck-based, and even the amusement park theme gives this game way more charm than its predecessor.
I love how N64 Mario Party games have progressively improved with each installment, with the OG one being enjoyable but also having too much annoying RNG-based mechanics & minigames, to the 3rd one having a really consistent selection of good minigames with almost no truly bad ones, and finding the right way to do RNG on a board with Action Time. You can honestly see that with Chilly Waters, a board that, for me, is what DK’s Jungle Adventure should have been.
Finally, more Mario Party content! I remember you said you would do a Mario Party game ranking after you hit 1K and I haven't seen it yet. I hope it's coming soon!
This game definitely had the worst board selection of the Hudson era. I only liked three(DK's Jungle Adventure, Luigi's Engine Room, and Mario's Rainbow Castle) and the rest were totally insufferable to play. My board rankings would be: 8. Wario's Battle Canyon 7. Eternal Star 6. Peach's Birthday Cake 5. Bowser's Magma Mountain 4. Yoshi's Tropical Island 3. DK's Jungle Adventure 2. Luigi's Engine Room 1. Mario's Rainbow Castle
@@AlbertBoris Things like the lack of an item system and Boo stealing coins for free make it too luck based, almost to the extent of the ND Cube era. In case you're wondering the reason I had Yoshi's Tropical Island above Bowser's Magma Mountain and Peach's Birthday Cake, it's because while it's annoying how the star constantly changes places at least you have full control over when and if you want to cross the entire time(at least if you have enough coins). With Peach and Bowser's boards, they each have sections where you just have to hope you get the good route, although I prefer Bowser over Peach because at least the risk of 10 coins to cross or not cross is more worth it than 30 coins to hope someone lands on your space. I think of Bowser's Magma Mountain as a less unfairly punishing version of Peach's Birthday Cake, which is pretty ironic considering Bowser's variants of things in Mario Party are usually expected to screw over people more.
Eternal Star is... interesting. There's actually a warp course you can figure out, but thats actually a problem since its never fun if everyone knows, and the happening spaces sending you back to start is really annoying, though the koopa kid gimmick is one i really enjoy, but for 100 stars? Its a bit of a disappointment, not the worst though. As for the other boards ill make some quick comments Battle Canyon is just, why? I actually like birthday cake because of the happening spaces, its literally monopoly Tropical Island benefits players with coins because of the thwomp toll, but you barely have any other option so its eh DK's has just never been interesting but i can see the appeal, although if you get a bad turn order it can just not be fun at the start Luigi's is good. just good. Mario's is uhh..... Bowser's is the best, risk-reward elements do a thing that most boards in MP1 dont, give you a choice.
@EpicheGamer yes, I know it's not really part of the main line story boards but it would be nice if it was included more. Not a lot of people know about it.
Wario Battle Canyon is annoying to deal with, you can literally come into problems with Chance space and that back up by the fact that you can actually time where you land from the canons. I still want Mario Party 1 to get a HD Remake. I really do want the remaining Boards to get revamps. Magma Mountain and Eternal Star are 2 that I want especially that their music would sound song so good.
DK Jungle respect! I think that board would be my #1 to. I think it's mostly due to nostalgia though.. Being 3/4 years old, all I would play is that board being the easiest haha.
Great ranking! It's weird; we share a lot of the same opinions, because DKJA is also my favorite board in 1! It used to be LER, but I like having control over my actions and gameplay, and DKJA does that best for me.
The OG Mario Party is the most overrated Mario Party game for me. The boards mechanics and luck-based minigames are annoying. And the most underrated one is Mario Party 9, cause everyone hates this game, while it’s the best MP for me.
Dk's board is like my least fav, pretty boring I way prefer the chaos of Bowser Land & Wario's Battle Canyon and Mario's rainbow castle is just wonderful
