Thanks for the love Matti! Couldn't be more accurate. Starting a YT Channel was the best decision. Through all the tough days of not wanting to do it or wanting to quit to often im grateful to have stuck with it. Thanks for inspiring us all!
I've been keeping up with your RU-vid journeys for quite some time now, and I must say, I absolutely love what I'm seeing! Your innovative approach to shaping education and creating a welcoming environment for new creators is truly inspiring. To put it simply, I'm thrilled to be a part of this movement and can't wait to contribute and showcase my talents and community ❤
Hi 👋 YT has definitely been the 2nd most fun thing I’ve done in my career. The first most fun is the random happy accidents (lighting, editing, communication, etc.) I experience when making YT videos that translate into my other work.
For sure, I’m not saying everyone needs to obsess over it like some of us do, but even if it’s just like an unlisted video journal it can be a handy tool.
You are right but I think you should do it primarly for your development, I love to create, cut, taking care of my audio, simply anything connected to video. And i am happy that I can help some persons who apparently have the same passion by watching my reviews and videos 😄
Blaine is exactly what this platform needs. Amazing to see top YTers like yourself shout out newer/smaller channels. I guess it goes to show, real recognizes real!
It's easy when you receive free gear from Sony to make your reviews and have rich friends that help to promote your channel. You're just a nobody, it's a long way to be remotely successful using RU-vid to achieve your dreams.
Agreed. I have started my channel just a few months back and it's been the best thing ever. It LITERALLY changed my life. P.S. Ryan is the GOAT! Been following him since the Film Riot's "UFOh Yeah" days
I completely agree. I have a BUNCH of friends in Hollywood that struggle to make it there. Everyone went on strike and are trying to got find ways to get taken advantage of again. If only they could combine forces. RU-vid is the distribution platform. Funny thing is, all the hard work going on in Hollywood ends up on RU-vid anyways. 😂
how are striking workers trying to be taken advantage of again? what hard work of theirs ends up on RU-vid? Why do you write bunch in all caps? Are you saying RU-vid is the only distribution platform?
ok hear me out... an Arri camera. Crazy lens. Practical lights setup. Key lights. Probably a sound blanket somewhere... holds the mic for authenticity... Boom the mic Matti. Please. End the trend. I blame Danny Gevirts for this but it's bigger than him now. Boom the mic. I know you have mic tape and you could have taped it to your chest. All this time and effort into setup, filming, editing, color luts. Time to let it go. Boom it. Resist the temptation. I promise the video will be 10X better. Guarantee you will get 20X more views and 30X more ad revenue. You might even get more from your sponsors. At least 50X. Do it Matti. Put the mic where it belongs.Ok rant over. Ok rant over =)
Love the shout outs! Blaine’s channel is low key one of the best out there when it comes to showing personality and expertise. Another is Phil Holland, whom I’d like to see more of cause he’s an absolute resource beast. Keep up the great content Matti you’re a leader for a reason!
@ 8:00 Couldn't agree more! A viewer left a comment on one of my RU-vid videos this week saying I didn't know what I was talking about, because they were an award-winning documentary filmmaker and I wasn't... Kind of caught me off-guard, but really opened my eyes to how some people still view RU-vid.
For someone like me who’s got next to no followers at all, and has only been giving this RU-vid thing a go for a couple of months, I can already categorically say that it’s made such a difference to my work and myself as a business/brand. I’ve had lots of exciting brands approach me already about working with them and it’s been so good to network with people across the world who are drawn to the same stuff, I can only imagine what that’s like at your kinda level and it’s what motivates me to keep going with it. Also, Blaine and Carlo’s channels are two of the best channels I’ve found so far and has been so so useful!! (Pack’s look sick too btw)
Ha! That’s a coincidence - I came to the same conclusion this morning and impromptu set up our RU-vid channel just a couple of hours before you posted this. We’ve been on Vimeo for a while, but had never got round to RU-vid. But decided it would be great to get more eyeballs on content.
Great love your videos this one is very cool and I agree. Just started with my channel, Video first on a Sony a7IV 😀 maybe my reviews and tutorials help others. Cheers from Austria 👍
I started my channel a few years ago. But it turned out that vanlife was not my path. At least right now. But I've often thought about teaching filmmaking and doing reviews about products. Maybe I should, but do I start over. Or just change my current channel and work off of that? Just change the name and base it off of vlogging, tutorials and reviews like Matti & Peter?
I asked a question in a previous video, I've gotten my answers now. Thank you! Now that you have an Arri, if you by any chance have an old cam to spare, I never mind one, thank you! Much love, Matti.❤
Hey Matti, Great video! love the Arri look 🤣 - I started a channel last year and this video gave me so much motivation! thx Greetings from CPH, Denmark 🇩🇰
Regardig the look of this video.... I thought all the time that my internet was really bad and it just did not show me a good resolution because everything did not look sharp... but maybe it's just my eyes....
you are not a filmmaker!! please! you are a youtuber and peter mckinnon is a youtuber as well, NOT a photographer!! show me a client who is hiring you to shoot anything….
You are so damn right on the ego thing! As an ex ad agency producer of one of top agencies worldwide and film maker, was quite skeptical about getting onto youtube for the fear of being judged. But eventually the love and passion for creating stuff overtook everything!
Uses $100,000 CAMERA SETUP FOR VISUALS... but the $499 rhode wireless pro... 😂 but valid because 32 bit float is no joke... even 16 bit float is wild. Good video!
Hi matti I wanna say you are amazing and we need you forever. I have finally saved up a decent chunk towards my dream of video production and content creation. I was wondering If you think this option is still viable in 23 going into 24. Planing on buying Fx3 with 24-70 gm II , 50mm 1.2 gm. I have about 10k budget gave or take. would you go this route still or a different way?
Appreciate the shout, Matti. Love that you're helping to lead the charge to show how the "filmmaking" and YT spaces can co-exist and compound each others' efforts.
That's what I'm banking on. Only problem is between RU-vid and social media, while I've made a lot of connections, all my filmmaker friends live in other states or countries. But still a great way to put yourself out there and learn new skills.
What do you recommend when your client posts a video you made to their RU-vid channel and you also want to post it to your own YT channel as a part of your portfolio. Are there issues with having essentially duplicate videos out there. Mainly thinking clients wouldn't like it. Any insight on this would be really appreciated.
So true, even as a photographer and videographer the fact that you can combine both to create an awesome portfolio for potential clients but also for others to be inspired to be pick up a camera, its such a great feeling
Couldn’t agree more. I been running a production company for 12 years but started my YT channel this year. It’s a great way to build a brand and show off the personality side of what we do and how we do it. Love your work!
Been on the RU-vid posting videos from 2006 , it is a great tool . However the algorithm and tags are important , which is why I only have 70 subscribers . But hey , I just keep on posting.
Crossing the required watch time hours feels so impossible if you don't constantly upload and promote your work. I was proud to reach over 2k subs, had a video reach half a million, and then RU-vid took my monetization away because of watch time. I've made $90 from RU-vid...
This look is awesome! Im just a guy shooting BBQ videos with my zve10 and learning my camera still. I will never be shooting with $100,000 camera but your content is so inspiring. Im not a film maker so why did i choose to watch this video? Because you make me want to make better content on youtube. Back to the look in this video mind blown. I felt like i was watching a "youtuber" with the look of The Batman and i loved it.
This is a great video. I’ve watched your channel for a number of years now and there was something different about this video. The color grade and setup was great. Now, do this type of cinematic/vlog style video on a Sony and show us how. 🤙 love it.
I’ve been thinking about this too. RU-vid seems like a great place to show how and why you do what you do- the journey. But the finished, polish result, or the fruit that falls from the tree, for filmmakers at least, deserves a better presentation than RU-vid provides. I think people, myself included, are more than happy to buy a ticket or rent/buy a film on another platform whose journey they’ve kind of been a part of since the beginning.
Yea that’s true but also would you rather have 100 people see your video or 10,000? And how much does quality matter there. Interesting question to ask. I think big project like a feature still aren’t well suited for RU-vid but bts, lessons learned, test shoots etc etc are so good for RU-vid.
@@mattih Totally agree. The other thing is if your channel is all about the process and then when you post a “finished project,” it seems ironically (and logically?) that the audience just isn’t as interested in that 😅 as in less views than a ridiculous (but irresistible) Arri vs iPhone comparison. RU-vid has been a fascinating experiment in interest and entertainment preferences.
@@tylerterryYT Yea when I'm on RU-vid, I'm not looking to watch a finished feature/short with popcorn. I'm just casually browsing to see if there's any new tricks I can learn and keep up to speed on the latest tech. It's basically a modern version of the magazines that shared cinema tips & stories.
I think everyone should try vlogging, even if you dont get a following out of it. I like making videos to make memories, something I and my family can look back on, I love how RU-vidrs can pull up footage of a day and just relive that day, I think having a log of your life like that is just awesome! Who cares who watches the videos now, because your family will love to watch them later :)
I'm loving the the evolution and direction you're going with your channel! On another note, I also really like Luc Forsyth and Mark Bone channels who are legit filmmakers/DPs as well RU-vidrs. Amazing content!
It takes time to grow a channel, and it's hard to start but when you start it's a lovely journey that also pushes you to learn on a daily basis. Am happy I started creating content and am happy that I made it to 380 subscribers looking back from the day I started when I only had 0 subscribers, one day I was walking on the roadside here in Uganda and some student stopped me and told me he watches my videos on RU-vid 🤣🤣🤣🤣 That experience has never left me. Thank you Matti for this
Thanks for this Matti, I'm currently trying to find the courage to start a RU-vid series about my film making career, this video helped for sure. Have you ever discussed how to get over the fear of being on camera?
I'm not even a filmmaker but as a painter I totally agree. RU-vid has been a game changer for me. It might take months or even years for an original painting to sell. Now, being able to monetize my process and grow a community of patrons has truly saved my career and faith in my creative practice. So grateful for RU-vid. I wish more creatives dropped the ego and use these incredible tools. Thanks for spreading the word 🙏🏾💕
I think an import thing to remember is when he says, skills or having them. We are all born with talent, talent with practice and knowledge becomes a skill. Does not mean you just know everything from the start.
I could literally watch your channel all day! But I have to work so I can’t :/ you always put out great content and the feel and mood in your video is always on point.
