Nice video review! Sub'd!! I'm waiting for my factory dampers to retire before I splurge on a set of B16 for my car. It's one of the things I've been hoping to get, but I'm curious about how the car will ride compared to the factory shockers.
I’m not even in the market for Bilstein coilovers, but this was an awesome and helpful vid. Suspension ride quality and handling are painfully, debilitatingly subjective, and will vary per driver age and skill. What’s comfortable for a 22-yr old boy racer might be awful for a 40-year old driving his car daily. You have a nice perspective coming from: BCs, Teins, MSS (so expensive!), and now a nice premium set of coilovers. Great video ending as well. I don’t think our tracks here let us run at night. What a treat! 🍺 ✌️ 🇦🇺
DCC/Damptronic B16s or regular? Also are you running heavy camber in the front as I've read the front B16 springs are too thick that impact 2-3 degree camber and have to run MSS adjustable springs instead. Interested to hear what size wheels/tires you have in the front and what camber, close to buying these also.
What camber plates/mounts are you running? I’ve seen issues on the forums with the 034/Superpro mounts, and curious if you have experience with the Vorshlag or Ground Control plates
Hey there car looks great! Can you adjust the front and rear dampers with them installed on the car or do they have to be removed for adjustment? Ride height too?
Yes you can! The damper adjusters are under the damper so you can turn the front wheels to get at them. rear are easy. Can adjust ride height without removing.
Mate! This was the video I was looking for! Been looking at the 16s and the KW for my Golf R 470bhp for some time and going over loads of vids to get the answers you just gave me! Thank you very much I am now ready to part with my money. Can I ask, brakes and pads, what you using? I have gone for Racingline mono blocks 6 pots and Red stuff pads. Thank you again!
Hey mate glad you like the video. The B16s are really amazing. I'm still really happy with them. Pads can be a personal choice. My favourite at the moment for street and track are the Circo M119. They are basically a WRC pad. 50-800C. My backup are Endless MX72. Not quite as good initial bite or heat range but still solid.
Thanks mate! I was pretty chuffed with the time. Data had a 43 flat in it. So a 42 is there on the same setup with more seat time. Just an APR Stage 2 tune. Dyno'd at 230wkw.
@@trackhackau Do you have video footage of your 1:43.9? that would be good to see and I'm thinking GTI record? I think VW would even be impressed with that time!
@@donr868 I do actually. It's on the Track Racers Australia FB page. Been meaning to throw it up on here as well. The only Golf I know that's gone faster is the GPG Time Attack Golf R. It went a tenth or two quicker at 2019 WTAC.
Would have loved a set of clubsports but out of my price range. I chose the B16 as they can still be upgraded. So when I've extracted everything out of these I'll get them re-valved and matched to linear motorsport springs. Step by step.
@@trackhackau yeah the b16 are upgradable. Not saying they are bad right now but if you really want track focus the progressive springs need to go😁. But yes, clubsports leave a big hole in the bank!
I've put the video up on the international MQB FB page so hopefully it can start some conversation. Love to learn what setup other people are using with this kit.
I currently have Bilstein B16 damptronic coilovers in my 2017 Golf R. I love the shocks but I'm currently having a creaking noise in the front driver and passenger sides at low speed going over bumps in the road. I have checked and replaced my front ECS shock mounts, bearings, end links. I am running a APR Front sway bar. Have you ever had this issue? Do you know how to fix it? Thanks for your help.
@@trackhackau Thanks for the reply. I am installing the 034 Subframe locking collars this week. Hopefully that fixes the issue. Are you running aftermarket front strut mounts and front endlinks with your Bilstein B16 coilovers? I am running ECS Heavy Duty Front strut mounts and Moog endlinks with APR Front swaybar.
I finished installing the 034 front subframe locking collars it helped quite a bit but some noise still remains. I talked to Bilstein and they recommended installing spring isolators. I purchased some from 034. Will be installing soon. Let you know how it goes...
@@user-dx8cu4ez7c no the noise continued. I was told by one of the original testers for Bilstein B16 coilovers in the North America market to cut 2 nubs off the bumpstops. I was told by others that this is most likely the issue. I will be cutting 2 nubs off next month when I add MPI and other goodies to my MK7 R
