No matter how hard I try I can't recognize him as Wonka. The voice and look is just so drastically different. But in an interview he explained how he came up with the voice and the voice coming out of his mouth sounded like a COMPLETELY different person, it's so trippy.
I know right! It's so refreshing most actors just play the exact same character in every movie... Which I'm pretty sure is actually just themselves. Are they even really acting? Or just reading lines and being told what to do? Seriously Jonny puts most of Hollywood to shame with his talent!
He’s definitely one of the great character actors of our time. Whatever role he’s playing, you forget he’s Johnny Depp. Great actor and one of my all time favorites, I’m glad that sorry pump couldn’t hurt his legacy. Of all the great stories he’s given us I hope he gets his happily ever after.

That's what really impresses me. Even when he's not wearing face disfiguring makeup, he still manages to affect a physicality such that you forget about Johnny entirely.
@@amandasmith3504 if you haven’t already, watch the movie blow with director commentary on. That scene when Depp is going through airport security thinking of ways to stay calm, he was thinking of the lines the audience would hear and acting as if he could hear what we do. Very impressive, the director praises him throughout most of the movie.
It's INCREDIBLY how he turns into a completely different persona every movie he does. I'm so glad his reputation will not be unfairly tarnished, his legacy must always be respected, the man is amazing

I’m Puerto Rican I can mimic Mexican and Dominican accents in Spanish but there are many many other countries that speak Spanish with their own accents and I suck at doing them all let alone in English
I used to know Johnny from his Tim Burton roles (Alice and Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Edward Scissorhands, and Sweeney Todd) and Pirates. I assumed that he just did “out there” characters. But this has made me realize that he’s been in a bunch of other movies I’ve seen and his range and acting is so good that I didn’t even realize that it was him. All this drama with Amber has led to so many people realizing how talented he is. It’s wonderful.
He should have been a bigger star. (Not just well known) His talent is just off the charts. … I just wish he would have cleaned himself up like Robert Downey Jr. did. (Everyone thought that guy was a lost cause!!) Johnny’s lifestyle did not do him any favors.

Johnny's acting skills are beyond brilliant but astonishing! His performances are legendary & unforgettable. The ability to portray so many different, yet, unique characters is pure talent. Gotta luv him! ❤
Johnny Depp is by far the most clear-cut multidimensional actor of our time. In every role that he takes on, he completely encompasses the character like no other actor. Hollywood, wake up and do not disregard this acting treasure.
He's so totally and completely unique. So different from every other actor. He's not afraid of anything. He'll do it all. The strange, the sad, the poetic. From the simple to the complex, the fantastical and the life-affirming to the terrifying. He does the straight man, the crazed man and everything in between. His bodily awareness is amazing. He's like a character actor and a leading man all rolled into one.
Sure he is a fine actor but so are many others. The way you describe him sounds more like the way you describe someone you are in love with, than someone's technical acting skills.

He has a lot of characters where it's like "ok it's Depp", but occasionally he does something radically different where he's really nothing like Johnny Depp, sometimes you watch a movie and you find out years later he was in it.
Finding out he played victor in corpse was insane, just never thought it was him lol. But moreso Wonka always comes as a shock, he looks nothing like him and yet he slayed the role!

Sometimes you would positively swear it's not him. His British accent is the best I've heard. Some American actors and actresses do a good British accent (Renee Zelweiger) but you kbow it's not real. Depp sounds real. He has such a relishment in his acting in the diversity of his characters. Mesmerizing.
I've always thought that Renee Zellweger's British accent was too forced and slightly too 'try-hard'. I think that Robert Downey Jnr,. Rachel McAdams, Lily Collins and Kristen Stewart have all pulled off very good English accents... To the other commenter, Anthony -- no, Johnny Depp is definitely not British. He's American. He does, however, have some British ancestry in his genealogical family tree, by all accounts.
Was Keanu Reeves English accent in Dracula 1992 any good? I think not, I like Keanu but making him into an Englishman was a bit too much. My point is JD, he’s been one that has carried British accents beautifully, “The Libertine” and “Sleepy Hollow” comes to mind.

Neither did I. And his diversity is unreal. And as another person said, Amber picked the wrong one. Even if he was guilty he could act his way out of it most likely. But I don't believe he was. He's 58 and surely someone else would have accused him also in his life. I think he's a gentleman and actually quite shy.

To see all his extremely DIFFERENT move roles put together like this makes you really realize just how insanely talented he is. I sure hope he continues making movies because it would be a shame to not continue to see this man's talent on the screen.
Who would've thought that Mr Johnny Depp had already been a versatile actor right from the very start. Not to mention that he literally slays every single role he portrays onscreen. His reputation as an actor may have been damaged before, but I know he's gonna be coming stronger as ever in the future if he's returning to starring in movies like he used to. It's such a shame that Ms Heard dragged this man down under.
And here it is proven that Johnny has not only made chameleon films, he is actually very multifaceted, he is a tremendous actor who fully gets into the character. He definitely deserves an Oscar.
Him and Leonardo DiCaprio deserve more than one. Edit: there are plenty of movies where they should have received Oscars and they still deserve them. I remember when Leonardo finally got his first one and it was definitely well deserved. The revenant was amazing. However there are still a few movies better than the revenant and he should have received it from them.
Look at the years these came out. This man needed one movie and literally started another one right after and was doing more than 1 at a time as well. And literally gave his all to each scene. I love him so much. And dear god, that man is GORGEOUS 🤤
And to think, this is only the beginning! Nothing will be more beautiful than to witness this creative genius transmute & transcend all that toxicity & release the magic that has been suffocated for far too long. True legend.
His portrayal of these characters is so telling, a memorable social commentary with the Fantastic Beasts being really impressive despite his harrowing personal life. 👏 Well done, JD.
I’ve never been so happy to have only seen 8 movies starring Johnny Depp. I could literally binge all of his movies that I haven’t seen yet instead of searching for a series to get overly attached to 😂🥴❤️. Had no idea he was in this many movies, thank you!
JD is brilliant in nearly everything. Some of the movies themselves aren’t so great, or have issues (eg, the Lone Ranger), but his performance is generally worth sitting through the rest of the movie. My own favorites are Chocolat and Don Juan de Marco. He and Marlon Brando are just amazing, playing off each other in that film. Oh, and Fear and Loathing is such an amazing and wild ride. I’m really looking forward to his Beetlejuice performance!
I just realised that he knowingly or not quoted his own characters at least twice durring his trial. He said „life is a bird’s song” and „Im obsessed with the truth”. Realy interesting lines
@@elenas3963 I thought the same! The quotes, the way he spoke, the stammering, the way he wiped his nose with his hand. I admit that as an actor I have never found him to be as excellent as Leonardo di Caprio can be, but now I have the doubt that there is very little acting in his characters. They tend to be similar to the real Depp at various stages of his life.
If you have watch enough interviews you will find all actors lives are intertwined in their roles. I live not far from San Saba, Texas where a very famous actor has a large ranch. He always plays a snarky smart ass, rough around the edges, dry humor, no time for people. Well that's him in a nut shell.
Johnny Depp will forever be Gilbert Grape to me. That was the first movie I ever went and saw in theaters by myself without parents, making it the first movie I ever recognized him in along with Leonardo DiCaprio. After hearing him testify, talking about his life growing up poor in Appalachia (where I’ve grown up and seen the poverty he spoke about) that movie now hits a bit different with a rewatch. It doesn’t take place in Appalachia, but it does show a family growing up in in a rural Iowa town facing poverty. Depp’s character is basically the “man of the house” as a teen/young adult having to take care of everyone with a small town job at a grocery store. The mother is obese and bound to the house, unable to do much of anything, and it often embarrasses them. His character goes through the stress of trying to take care of everyone while trying to enjoy being his age. It’s a really good movie that often gets overlooked when people think of Depp because his “kooky” roles now outshine it, but I highly suggest people check out the movie if they ever get a chance and have never seen it before. It kinda’ sucks how his acting career has basically been cornered to “Jack Sparrow” or “weird guy in a Tim Burton movie” when the man has a whole catalog of movies that are just as great, if not better, with the skills to prove he can go beyond just that one certain typecast that the public seems to only know him as. Edit: also “Blow” is a fantastic movie. Another great one that shows his range concerning roles.
I was 7 and that was the first movie I vividly remember him in. It wasn't the one that sealed the deal (which was cry baby and Jack sparrow) but I remember really loving it (still do) because at that age, I was the "woman of the house" and doing everything while also trying to enjoy my childhood.
He is the best actor ever! Every movie of his that I watched, I was always amazed by him. You never doubt a second in his performance. Every line is followed with perfect face mimic. He is a genius. He is hilarious. He is perfect for drama, comedy, fantasy he can play it all.He has such sense for sarcasm that is unbelievable.
This kind of makes me sad. It shows just how old he has gotten. I need to meet him. Just have a conversation with him. He is so talented and just seems like such a sweet person. His acting range is crazy amazing and I would love to get some life advice from him
Chocolat is a masterpiece that I recommend to anyone. However I am disappointed that the original 21 Jump street TV series isn't mentioned. Though he was in 4 out of 5 seasons it was and still is a great series. Worth a rewatch from time to time.
He revisited his role in recent 21 Jump Street (2012) so this character is technically mentioned. But I still think his role in original TV series is more worthy of mention.
He will always be remembered as one of the all time best actors...How can a human being be that attractive, cool, talented, funny, smart, humble, kind and many more at the same time...❤️

Wow, I've heard of him most of my life but never realized how many of these movies he was in. He changes so much for each character! As an actor myself, I must say, this is the portrait of a great actor!
Actors like Tom Cruise, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, some others too, when you watch them in a movie, it's like they're just playing themselves. Johnny (amazing) Depp is an actor that just disappears into the characters he plays. Truly one of the greats!
now i gotta make a checklist of all his movies and start watching them because WOW. i knew he had diversity and range in his acting because he was EVERYWHERE growing up but to actually watch clips of his different characters really puts into perspective of the imprint johnny has made onto everyone watching.
I still haven't watched my DVD " The Libertine " - but will do it , soon - I love " THE BRAVE " - in the US it was not very liked - they did not like the message , which was very annoying to JD : in Europe that film is very respected !

I'm not a movie buff. Many of these movies I would never watch, but wow what a range of characters he has portrayed. Some of them I would not have recognized him.
I already knew that johnny was a great talent but its just amazing to see how many fantastic movies he's been in. Donnie Brasco is one of the greatest mobster movies. Dead Man is another one of my favorites because i love Jim Jarmusch

Oh but Johnny’s cognitive processing speed! I have always loved Johnny’s skill as an actor. Through his trial I learned so much more about him and I’m happy he is able to start to put this toxic time of his life behind him. As a recovering alcoholic/drug addict I hope he can keep find and sobriety.
Wow, a lot of these I wouldn’t have even know it was him, and not just because of the disguises of the character, but because of his entire embodiment of the role. His mannerisms, accents, expressions and vibes are all the things that make a good actor a great actor and he’s got the full package for sure. Cinema itself took a hard hit when he was no longer being cast for roles.
It’s really amazing how they can make him look so different in each movie and how he always brings his own notes into a character! He truly has a magnificent talent

He has accomplished unbelievably lot as an actor. Just all that is insanly lot of work! Besides that he has also had a life running outside that work, with all the tasks that comes with being a human. He work hard and with a huge heart for his success and life.

Edward Scissorhands, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, Chocolat, Alice in Wonderland, Fear and Loathing in LV, my favorites of the ones I’ve seen. I absolutely love this man. As Graham Norton said, “arguably the best character actor of our lifetime”. I wish him happiness in his future.

He hides his suffering so well, truly a great actor and so unfortunate that this was the case for several years. In a more extreme example of this would be Judy Basari who played in land before time, and all dogs go to heaven, sweet and extremely talented little girl. People didn't start to catch on until it was beginning to be too late. Her mother selfishly sealed her fate at the hands of her father. She was so talented and adorable, that as a viewer, I had no clue
The amount of movies he did *between* the POTC saga and their diversity is insane. You can see he loved acting, he didn't depend on his mainstream roles and challenged himself with different characters that can be appreciated within a wide age range.
This is an awesome video, his charm and humor stands out every time. When he did 21 Jump St I was in 7th grade, so many girls in school loved him, but I thought he was just a pretty boy, then Edward Scissorhands and Benny and Joon came out, boy I was so wrong about him and I just loved him ever since..When he did the movie with Heath Ledger, and him Jud Law and Colin Ferrell all took over Heath Ledgers character because he passed during filming it was such a sad situation but all 3 of them gave their full pay to Michelle Williams and their daughter. Just an example of his compassion, all of their compassion. This is what I always thought him to be or when the young actress from the Whale Rider, Kesha Castel-Hughes, was up for an award at the Oscars her dream was to meet Johnny Depp and she got to before the award ceremony, he seemed more nervous and excited to meet her and she was very nervous and excited herself, it was so funny and adorable to watch..wow didn't mean to write much 😁
He should play Dorian in "The Portrait of Dorian Grey" He would be perfect but I hope his life doesn't mirror it. He really can play anything and does. Amazing how many movies I havent seen ... I better get caught up Sweeney Todd was too dark for me.
