@Jared Sabatelli The difference is that Japanese comedy can get away with being disturbing through abstraction (see also: Bob Team Epic) while hentai has to have at least one character who is _at least_ realistically (albeit idealistically) anthropomorphic, if not human. Even that one hentai I heard about where a guy has coitus with a doorknob anthropomorphizes the doorknob before the coitus is preformed.
I really like how you acknowledged the Korean Katamari mmo game at the end. It's a pretty obscure peice of Katamari lost media that many of us huge Katamari fans are super interested in! Me and some friends from the fanbase have been doing our own little lost media hunt for the game! It's really cool to see a big youtubers like you aknowledge the game! Great video btw!

14:07 I would also like to bring up that "nai" in Japanese means "nothing", so her name could just be referring to how theres a lot of "nothing" in space, doubled up to sound like a cute name.
Niku means meat in Japanese. Dipp can also be a reference to the Little/Big Dipper. Miki's name is most likely a reference to the character Miki Hoshii from Namcos Idolmaster franchise, since hoshii means star and her head is star shaped.
HELLO!!! I want to spend time with celebrities. Just kidding. GAGAGAGAGA! I only want to spend time with my two girlfriends and record videos for my channel with the 3 of us. OH YEAH. Don't hate me for living the best life, dear qoo
I think he was intentionally making a reference to one of the games. In one of the titles (I think it's "We Love Katamari" but I'm not sure) every time you unlock a cousin the King will describe them and then follow up each time with "how disturbing".
I always thought the joke of Johnson's name was that he looks like Prince with his head shape turned sideways, making him very weird looking, yet he has one of the most ordinary names on the planet
"Ryu" means a technique style or discipline, dragon is "Ryuu" (usualy written as an u with a hyphen above whose actual name I cannot remember) and is a different word. In this case, it's most surely the first word.
I always assumed Dipp got his name from being covered in stars. One could say his clothes are like a constellation, two of which have the word "dipper" in the name.
Soooo...in the recent remake "We Love Katamari + Royal Reverie", one of the cousins officially had a name change Colombo has been renamed Njamo...which means "relative" in Swedish Soooo...he's just the full-body-haired "relative"now ...how disturbing So instead of being
Not to be horribly rude but Lockstin's personal health is not really something any of us should discuss willy nilly. If he references it or cracks a joke about it, well alright. However, him not mentioning it again for the whole video should be a sign that we shouldn't tread on his personal life like this.
@@EinsamPibroch278 Yeah of course I am aware of this, but I am referring to the context of people discussing on more inappropriate related terms. Not unless if he mentions it otherwise or with his dedicated video(s) like the one you mentioned, on videos like this I personally see it as a bit rude or disrepesctful, at least with the original comment I was just replying towards. No problem with a fanbase learning and teaching others about this guy's physical health issues, I just see it as yes a tad disrespectful with the way the original comment was trying to lean towards.
My favorite is Opeo.....I used to have a bunch of bandages on varying wounds growing up, so....I guess I get the whole wrapped in bandages thing? Man I love Katamari though.
Holy balls! You didn’t just reference Ranma, you referenced a character that only existed in the manga! That’s some dedication. Or you just looked up manga characters named ryu...
Literally just watched this video and having Lockstin mention that he hade the EXACT SAME medical problems I just dealt with earlier this year down to the muscle loss...I'm gonna freakin' cry dude. Give me LIFE, you beautiful gamer man.
@@gorb3288 Pac-Man World 1 and 2 are reasonably popular. Generally on the level of other 2nd tier platformers of the era. Pac-Man World 3 on the other hand...
@@gorb3288 Truth be told the only time I remember playing those games, I barely got that far and that was a loooooooong time ago. I think. Sure _feels_ like a long time ago anyway. I just know those games had a fanbase.
I think Odeon is based off of the Japanese food, oden.🍢 Nik is also from the Japanese word for meat, Niku.🍖 The horns on the sides of his head make him look like meat on a bone.
Not like you had to talk about the Namco High cousin's name, their canon name is literally just Cousin. Also Namco High has Homestuck characters in it and has art by the creator of She-Ra, the more you know
Colombo, as in the famous detective on T.V. that is always saying "Oh, just one more thing," just before he delivers the final piece of evidence to capture the criminals. So, maybe it's because detectives use sneaky covert operations? 🤔
I like how every game is King: oopsies I accidentally broke the world GO SON GO FIX MY PROBLEM Prince & cousins………… King: DO IT NOW WITHOUT FAIL OR YOU’LL BE SORRY
"We are disappointed in your inability to appreciate some of our family members. You could do better" -hypothetical response from the king of all cosmos jokes aside, very good video. katamari is a good franchise
Now that I have picked up a few of them in reroll, I now understand why “how disturbing” is said so many times. The King of All Cosmos says it at the end of every bit of flavor text.
Ohh, this is such a fun video! It's so rare to see these sorts of videos (or anything really) for Katamari, and this was such a good watch! Some of these have stumped me for a while, I honestly didn't know about Opeo at all! There's a couple of name changes/details that I didn't see covered, so I thought I'd just bring them up because trivia is fun! Daisy- Horumon, either from a Japanese loan of 'hormone,' which is sometimes put into cow's milk, or from 'horumonyaki,' which is a Japanese dish made from beef offal Huey- Literally just 'Y,' I assume for his shape Lucha- Fukumen, meaning 'mask,' since he's a masked wrestler Macho- Gatsu, or 'guts' I assume in the sense of being strong and determined Twinkle- Subaru, which in Japanese refers to the Pleiades star cluster Velvet also makes a bit of a pun in the original Japanese, since it's pronounced 'berubetto' with 'beru' also being the pronunciation for 'bell,' possibly because of her sort of bell-shaped torso.
Nainai's name actually reffers to the japanese version of peekaboo. The full sentence is nainai baa. And its a box. With the universe inside. So uhh… its like a surprise i hav the whole universe inside of me type thing… yea.
Hey Lockstin! I gotta say that I DO love Katamari so much I even bought the X360 jus to play Beauiful Katamari! But in all seriousness, my favorite cousin is Miso, and in Katamari Damacy, Miso had no soup for once in her head. Might be because she was just a baby, and now growing up by that age when WE
@@attackcrash0787 Yeah but I imagine going through things you genuinely care about would seem shorter than researching, scripting, recording and editing something you don't have any attachment to
Ah but what gets rarely talked about is that peso has also another meaning in spanish. It is not simply a currency but peso literally also means weight.
I think you might be missing something about Pokkle. Pokkle *is* a generic magical elf thing of very small stature, that is a fact. And this is very consistent with the koro-pok-guru of Hokkaido Ainu lore, which are known in Japanese as コロポックル or koropokkuru. I suspect if you saw Pokkle's japanese name, it might be written with the same three kana at the end of the phrase. shop.r10s.jp/air-mami/cabinet/00426578/02143403/imgrc0078144702.jpg
I love Lalala. The description is just too funny! I need people to request that ALL Katamari games get a reroll on Steam. I can't afford a ps3, psp vita, or even a new/used psp. But I really need those games to keep what little sanity I have left!
Katamari Damacy was one of the first video games I every played. In it, Jungle had a green-and-brown military pattern, so the name fit more. Also, Lalala was peach; she wasn't tanned yet. BTW, you forgot the second O in Kinoko's name.
Thank you so much for making this video! My first game was also "We love katamari" and ever since then I've fell in love with the franchise. If you want to do another katamari game video, do one about the planets. They're all so different and diverse.
Kenta is the proper way to say it. In classical Latin, the C was always hard. Centaur was said "Kentauros". The barbarians then ruined everything. Also, the diphthong æ was said like "eye". So in Fallout New Vegas, the correct folks are the ones saying "kaisar". Bonus fun fact, that's where they got the names Kaiser and Tsar.
Hans is not Scandinavian (at least not solely). It's short for Johannes (aka John in English) in German and used to be very popular here in Switzerland
I remember Miso was my favorite to play as in the original. I'd also like to think Pokkle is the same Pokkle from HxH, but reincarnated as a garden gnome. That makes me kinda happy. I actually liked Pokkle from HxH.
Peso also means weight in portuguese and spanish. Oh, and wouldn't you think Marcie could be related do Marcy D'Arcy, from the 90's sitcom Married with Children?
Nik's name is also one letter away from Nike, the Greek Goddess of victory (and yes, that IS where the shoe company gets its name) hence him winning so much.
Colombo and Lalala got renamed to Njamo and Lalanja respectively in We Love Katamari Reroll for no discernible reason. Actually, Odean is named after an oden, which is a Japanese Kebob dipped in broth.
6:09 I wish this was right but actually it’s a more darker meaning. Columbo is the anglicized version of “Koronbo”. It’s very similar to the word Kuronbo which is the Japanese equivilant of the N word in Japanese, which is why it was changed to Njamo is We Love Reroll
The namco dating sim has homestuck characters for some reason, but sadly not rose or Kanaya, probably because they are married but hey, your character is (implied to be) female, they could totaly at least jokingly flirt with her. Or, more interestingly, they could fall for you, in the caligonus quadrant, then again no-one would stand a chance against rose in such a rivalry, she would most likely win every time, although your character is a blank slate from the start, maybe you start liking how much she defeats you and she then tones it down a bit to keep you from getting to comfortable, and then you can actually get some descent retorts in and it eventually stabilizes, or maybe terezi steps in and auspistecizes you two, I dunno I just want my gall in the game
I'm fairly certain that Nik's name is a play on "Niku (肉)," which is just the Japanese word for "Meat." Sherman may also be a food reference to the frozen treat, Sherbet.
some folks in the homestuck fandom knew about Namco High. mainly because there are three characters from homestuck you can date that are in Namco High. also, you see that ship behind that cousin? that one that's probably from Galaga? you can date it. no not the pilot. you date the entire ship. yes. really
This is so weird. I was just playing this game for the first time a few days ago, and of course that was the same week Lockstin decided to upload a Katamari video. So weird how that happens.
I wouldn't be surprised if the "peso" came to be because in some European countries they used "pounds". Which both words technically refer to weight if not in the sense of money
