In this video we show every key comic in the 263-issue run of Peter Parker the Spectacular Spider-Man. All 43 of them!
Addendum: at the end of this video I mentioned that there are 243 issues instead of 263. I misspoke, there are indeed 263 issues just like I mentioned at the beginning of the video.

Weird that like half of these that aren't that great stories, yet because they're first appearances, they're worth more than the countless brilliant stories in this series.

It feels do be like that, I got Ivy's first appearance and its kind of lackluster, the back up story is brilliant though.

That's how you know its only about mostly speculation not quality stories. The Doc Ock story arc from 70 to 75 was pure classic as well as the Child With In complete story arc by J.M. Demeittis which is a sequel to Kravens Last Hunt. Highly recommend.

@@alexandervelez2774 - The Return Of The Sin-Eater arc is one of my favorites as well (It was also possibly the BEST Electro story!). As well as Spectacular Spider-Man #250 (Norman Osborn at his BEST!).

There used to be more emphasis on stories. Stories had a quite a bit more value then they do now. First appearances have always been popular, but they never had the focus and price bonus as extreme as it is compared to regular issues.

As a Spider man fan who grew up in the 80s and 90s it was fun to see some of the comics I grew up reading. I leaned towards Spectacular Spider Man because buying back issues was much cheaper than from the Amazing Spider Man line. Sadly my entire comic book collection from my youth got stolen from a storage unit decades ago.

Marvel launched its 2nd ongoing title for Spider-Man in 1976, labeling it Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man. However, as years went by, many retailers racked it under "Spectacular" -- probably to be closer to other Spider-Man related material -- and the name officially changed The Spectacular Spider-Man, even though many still referred to it as "Peter Parker."

Sadly this is what is wrong with the industry these days. People are buying comics because they think it's going to be worth something, not because they enjoyed the story contain within the issue. They tried it in the 90's and it crashed the market. Now they're trying again because of the movies.

I was around in the 90s...the talk of a 'crash' is exaggerrated. The only ppl who lost money were the dummies who invested in Valiants, Death of Superman and Knightfall thinking they would get rich.
@RonSM2112

@@Boxingbear Not true at all. Marvel declared Chapter 11. For a while in 1997, none of my LCSs even wanted to take Silver Age back issues for anything near FMV. It was a tough time.
@Boxingbear
@Boxingbear 2 года назад
@@RonSM2112 I can recall it actually being a great time to buy if you had money to spend as a collector. I didn't have a whole lot of disposable income back then because I was going to University and only working PT. I do remember the LCS's around here were not very interested in buying. But I didn't see anybody lose their business or anything. I just think that whole thing gets very exaggerrated. But I wasn't selling then either, so..meh

All of these ppl wasting money on 9.8 this and 9.8 that Modern issues with a print run of 10 million will be sorry in about a decade. Movies only remain in the larger public consciousness for so long and that will also affect prices of certain books over the long term. But SA Keys are money in bank no matter what.

The only real keys up through Kraven’s Last Hunt are #1, first Carrion, first Frank Miller Daredevil, first Roderick Kingsley, first Cloak and Dagger, first black symbiote costume, death of Jean DeWolf and Kraven’s Last Hunt issues. The rest is fluff. Post Kraven issues I don’t know anything about, I had stopped collecting by then.

Last year i picked up both '91 Spectacular Spider-Man #176 and #177 first and second appearances of Corona, 30 year old comicbooks that later become a reality in '20 to '21 of the Corona virus pandemic that well be significance of what is happening now.

Thanks. I'm saving this video for reference.I've leaned towards the ASM books but I do have some of these, Including two copies of number one. Maybe they'll introduce Tarantula in the mcu one day. Always pictured someone like Antonio Banderas playing him. His costume looks awesome & this cover looks great next to ASM 129 with the yellow background. Always thought ASM #132 was his first appearance & Spectacular Spidey one was an almost cover swipe

Solid video that brought back memories. I remember getting SSM off the spinning racks during the 90s. Picked them mostly because they were cheaper than ASM. Recently picked myself up a nice 9.4 CGC slabbed SSM issue 1 for under $100. Raw copies of these keys can be easily found in the $1-2 bins. The nostalgia -- and my personal bias that this series is so underrated -- is quite strong.

Thank you for this video. Awesome job! I have a couple of questions that would help me understand exactly what you mean when talking grade and price: When you say "high-grade copy", in your opinion, what does that mean? Near Mint and higher? VF/NM or higher? Also, when you give the estimated price for a high grade copy, are you talking about raw comics or books that are certified by CGC, CBCS, etc...? Thank you.
