Well, Kido sure makes for a colourful video! Which Kido spell is your favourite from Bleach? Could the Gotei 13's magic system have been used better? Let me know your thoughts!
Wish there was more kido specialists that also used their zanpakuto, we got many specialists but they only used kido and we got some who only used basic kido techniques
I think kubo likes it alot just didn't have time to incorporate it. That's why we got burn the witch, I love the concepts in that animanga can't wait to see more
I agree. I would love an ark where Ichigo chooses to spend some time in the soul reaper academy and actually learns kido. Especially if its ib between the thousand year blood war ark and the hell verse arc. Evdn if its considered "fillar" i feel like it would be incredible. Or even better in Arc after the thousand year blood war and the hell verse where he studdies all the forms of the soul reapers officially with masters of the art, if he doesnt do the soul reaper academy, maybe studies kido under Tenzai, for Hakudo if say Soi Fon (id say she is superior in hand to hand to Yoiruichi but inferiero to her in flash step/hoho) and then hoho would be Yoiruichi obviously. Though she would also be an outstanding Hakudo teachet as well. For Zanjutsu Im not sure. Traditionally i feel the choice would be the Kenpatchi but Zaraki hasnt really been trained in Zanjutsu, he just does what he needs to to overpower his enemy, which is pretty much what Ichigo currently does. Genryusai is dead, so idk, maybe either Byakuya or Shinji? If not his dad (cant see his dad actually putting in effort to actually teach him something useful considering his track record).
Honestly Kido is probably one of the things I want to see most in the anime version of Aizen vs Yhwach. Not only do I hope they extend the fight in general, maybe showing more kido, maybe showing Bankai, but I definitely want to see an actual application of Hado 99 outside of just breaking up the environment to destroy Yhwach's black reiatsu
Don't get your hopes up lol Aizen and Ichigo combined still lost to Yhwach so why would they continue to put more stuff in that fight which is just going to to look totally ineffective like Hado 99 lol
Extended Aizen fight with Yhwach will have a Kurohitsugi opener, then a Goryutenmetsu (battling Yhwach's reiatsu in the background and environment since its self sustained) and maybe Aizen finishing off some attacks with a Senju Koten Taiho that he has been preparing with no incantation. Add Aizen clashing with Yhwach directly with an energy blade (Aizen is beyond bankai at this stage) and the fight will be all I ever wanted.
@@marshal8358 but all of that is just going to look futile and irrelevant lol. Yhwach is a terrible opponent because he is unbeatable without Still Silver. Even as strong as Aizen is even teaming up with Ichigo they couldn't win.
I would want to master shunpo and hakuda first for the first two centuries. In my opinion, training your physical body to the max could increase the reiatsu and thus enable efficient learning, practicing, and cast powerful spells. This is just me.
The short sequence of Byakuya vs kuoga was one of my favorite examples of kido battles. I really wish they were fleshed out more. It seems like there’s endless advantages especially for shinigami with captain level reiatsu. The fact that Urahara is always considered dangerous by any enemy who knows of him and he primarily uses kido just shows how powerful it can be.
Yeah, since your Zanpakuto locks you into a certain sort of combat and other disciplines like Shunpo are pretty straightforward, Kido seems like a great way to round out your abilities and compensate for your weaknesses. I'm surprised that Soi Fon doesn't mainly use Kido along with her Shikai to close the gap between it and her Bankai. At the very least, Rukia shows the strength of using long-range Kido when she's otherwise mainly specialized for close and mid-range combat. It must be very difficult to learn Kido, considering we mainly see specialists and geniuses using it.
The same with Hisagi vs Findor. Integrating bakudo to bind/slow opponents while keeping pressure on with your zampakuto seems like a very good way to punch above your weight class.
"tilt the goblet to the west" has lived rent free in my head for years. Man, the Quincy Invasion was a great opportunity to expand on this stuff with the Bankai being sealed/stolen, but no, just more of the same.
@@wanderlustwarriormore of the same? Im sorry but its a manga adaptation with new scenes, technically speaking if all quincys used bows and arrow that would be monotonous instead we get to see different and very creative abilities and transformations, the compulsory, being my favorite, im just wondering, what were your expectations?
I honestly never notice how many Kido spells were used in Bleach. My favorite Kido is Hado 90 - Kurohitsugi. It's just so cool looking and Aizen made it even more badass. I also love Bakudo 77 - Tenteikura because I love how you get temporary tats on your arm. Tosen made that look cool
Kido is so underrated and the new season so overhyped: WHO wants to bet money with me they will not make Tessai, the greatest Kido-Master alive&free do ANYTHINGGG? Will we veen get anyyy new spelllsss??
Many people didn’t do shit in tybw that would have been amazing like most of the Vizards or more of the Arrancar, even the FullBringers are IN Soul Society but barely get involved.
@@SuperPianogirl123that’s the problem of creating too much great characters and in the end they’re just there for nothing and the mc does everything lmao
He propably could feeze Yhwach in time and give Uruy an opening to fire his arrow. It still bugs me that Yhwach knows everyting, but not that Uryu is making an arrow that can stop his powers. Tessais time-shenanigans could be used as an explanation why everything worked out theway it did in the end. But the fight is complicated enoughi think...
As somebody who's spent the last 8 years sporadically working on a Bleach TTRPG system, I appreciate this kind of content. It's the kind I wish I had way back when. Makes it easy to replay raw information to get a feel for how each spell should work. I've mostly just poured over the Bleach Wiki and studied scenes where spells are used in the Anime. Kido has by far been my least favorite part of this process. I've scrapped so many iterations of the system. Difficult to make dozens of unique spells when most of them essentially produce more or less the same effect. Binding, paralyzing, stunning, sealing.... Call it what you like, I can only make so many "you're immobilized for X amount of time" Bakudko spells, and so many "blast of spiritual pressure dealing direct damage" Hado spells before I just get annoyed. I think I've finally nailed a system that works though. And unless I encounter another unforeseen game breaking issue, it should allow for wiggle room to make custom spells, as well as distinct and variable Kaido spells... Just gotta sit down and actually.... Make it... Who knows, maybe I'll have a playable prototype by the time Kubo publishes the Hell Arc?
@@bubbleboy1320 I learned about it sometime after I scrapped my second iteration of this project. I checked it out and it's pretty cool but it doesn't quite strike the feeling I'm looking for. Plus now I've got the beginnings of what I think might be a really fun system, so I feel almost obligated to keep working on it lol
Nah, Ichigo isn't a Kido type. He's very much "Squad 11" in his fighting style. Straightforward and never attacking from behind. Ichigo does have more than Getsuga Tensho too, the problem was Kubo loves to forget about stuff. Ichigo has an after image technique in his Bankai, as well as an "infinite slash" technique he used against Senbonzakura Kageyoshi. He also has a technique where he wraps a Getsuga around his blade to increase it's attack potency while taking advantage of Tensa Zangetsu's speed. The main problem is that he defaults to Getsuga Tensho and rarely utilizes anything else. The kick he delivered to Asguiaro in his human body was a sweet technique too! Given his delinquent brawler background, it would be super cool if he could utilize more Hakuda. If Ichigo did anything related to Kido, I'd say Shunko would have been a great thing for him to learn considering how Shunko operates very much like Ichigo wrapping himself in his own power. That'd be one hell of a stretch to explain properly though
The main issue is that most Hado are basically just energy blasts, which would just feel stupid considering he's already got that in spades, and the only Bakudo that really fits him would be something protective like Danku - which would steal the main thing that lets Orihime show her strength and resolve next to him.
Ichigo could have definitely learned Kido, but it's not his style. He's more the squad 11 style of pure swordsmanship, and the series were already pressed for space for characters that used Kido to enhance their melee abilities the way SoiFon and Yoruichi did.
I love how you could have just made a list in numerical order, but you put in the thought and creativity to make it more entertaining for your viewers. Thank you for that! We Appreciate you
*Mr.Tommo* has the *All Mighty* for sure. Yesterday I was watching RU-vid compilations of all Bleach kidos clips. And now this. 😆 Only someone with the All Mighty could accomplish such feat.
Kido is so underrated and used rather rarely in comparison to the other shinigami arts. However, the more I like it that you see Aizen utilizing these techniques. I never thought of Aizen as a fighter, but more of a mage. I think it just fits him.
I think one of reasons why Kido is less used in battle is probably due to the fact that it requires time to prepare the spell. The strength of just saying the name of the spell varies between users, and for the full power of the spell requires to recite the entire incantation which can be very long. So unless you use it right no enemy is going to wait for you to finish.
people chant their zampakuto's release name some even explain the full extent of their abilities begging to lose theres no excuse why they couldnt mutter two extra syllables for kido. If they wanna lose badly, they will lose
In regards to Yumichika, I'm of the mind that the situation was so desperate that his survival instincts took over. If I remember right, he was even about to use the true name of his Zanpakuto before Mayuri popped up. Excellently done video, and I can't wait for the reaction tomorrow!
I think part of the problem is that Kido was developed back when Bleach hadn't found its full identity yet. Back when it was more of a paranormal mystery story than a samurai and ronin story. Once the Kurosawa inspiration came in full force (defeat your rival in one move, battle ending before it begins, etc) Kito kinda became obsolete as a power system.
Except for the fact that your have people who specialize in it up to the last arc while not "falling off" no more than any other abilities that may have failed the soul reapers due to other factors.
I'd like to give a small correction. Hado Number 1 Sho was introduced in the soul society arc. Shunsui used it on Chad, however it wasn't stated to be Sho until databooks confirmed it
I agree with you, it was indeed criminally underutelized. It felt like Kubo only introduces a Hado or Bakudo spell because he needed a way to challenge or save characters. To be fair, it's not that bad, but still, it felt like a cop out at times. Perhaps Kubo distanced from the Kido system fearing fans will compare it to Naruto so he focused on the Zanpakuto system instead. In addition, maybe he thought it would ruin the Samurai theme if characters spam magic most of the time. But yeah, I still think it would have been cool to explore it a bit further. Imagine if Zaraki learned self-healing spells because Unohana figured he's the overly aggressive type.
Anytime someone says that Kido is worthless, I point to Kisuke. The man uses Kido a ton. Several of his most badass moments, like when fighting Aizen, is just him using Kido. Kisuke is among the strongest and smartest characters in the series. If he uses Kido, it is worth using.
I love the inclusion of Kido. This and many other techniques like shunpo, or sonido used by arrancars, hirenkyaku by quincies, I think these are great ways to indirectly tell how the users fight, move ,hunt or what they must do to survive(like quincy technique to move their immobilized limbs) and overall worldbuilding as in hachigen's barriers that you mentioned being related to chinese elemental animals or something. Worldbuilding in bleach and overall any media is one of the most important aspects of it, therefore is affecting it's overall tone and themes. First of all it's called demonic magic, what are ,,demons" in the universe, I don't remember seeing anything related to them, except maybe some don kanonji related attacks. I think it might be similar situation to hell butterflies.
It would’ve been so nice to see Kido incorporated a lot more. Tessai would be able to have more spotlight in the story. Maybe you create an arc where Ichigo learns Kido, he is meant to have surpassed the powers of a soul reaper after all, it’s only fair for him to be able to access one of the major Shinigami arts.
I'm so glad you made this video. Kido has been a part of Bleach from the very beginning yet Kubo never goes very in-depth with how this magic works. I'm hoping you do more of these purely educational videos, as even with re-reading the series numerous times, there's still things like Kido that don't quite make sense to me.
Kurohitsugi is the best for me. Not only because it is used by one of the strongest characters, but mainly what impressed me the most is it enigmatic design. The giant black coffin looks so menacing as we have no idea what is going on with the victim inside. By not showing the exact process of dealing damage Kubo made this particular spell not only look powerful but have a huge psychological effect, we as readers may only wonder on what horrors and tortures the unlucky faces inside. Hado #99 may be way more powerful, but as you see the "mechanic" of the spell the horror goes away and ypu only have to think about blocking or evading the spell, its a big dissapointment as I wish that all the hado 90-99 would have the same incomprehensible nature
First time I've been so early to a MrTommo video and it just so happens to be one of the coolest ones in my opinion!! Thanks for keeping the community alive!
Kido is so Underrated imo. Hachi beat someone like Baraggan with just Kido (A Little help from Soi Fon too) I always think about Kubo should use This more like Zanpakuto and Shunko. Tessai, the man who is Captain Lvl with just Kido and Probably one of the strongest Kido users in Bleach. I always want to See him. He Should deffinitley come to Final War or at least Fake Karakura against Aizen
soi fon didn't really do anything in that fight though. her best attempt just left his face and crown cracked. if hachi hadn't been there soi fon would have been 6 ft under. it was his use of kido that won that fight. it could have ended the exact same with soi fon not even involved.
@muhammadhabib9433 are you responding to me or is there a hidden comment? if you are taking to me what would have changed if soi fon had not been involved at all? what, barragon would have died without his skull partially cracked but in the exact same manner and means?
Kido is some of my favorite powers in bleach. I have homebrewed a character with his sword power amplifing and changing kidos. Never fully designed how it worked though.
I love Kido so much. The lore goes hard if you research it in irl history and mythology alike but fantasy settings have played with it amazingly and Bleach is a perfect example. Magic through words, the power of names, the belief that vocalising belief resonates frequency and vibration that is somewhere between magic and science.
you always make awesome interesting videos that i could listen to for hours mr.tommo!! on the topic of kido, my favorite kido spell is probably shokaho since it was always the most memorable one for me when watching the anime as a kid. anyway i hope everyone who sees this has a great day!!!!!!!😺😺😺
2:04 - For Kaido, i can imagine two types of spells used in different stages of healing 1. Neutralize/erradicate the reiatsu which is source of the damage 2. Turn Way: Effectively revert the physical damage suffered Stage 1: bakudo-like but operating at a very localized scope such as a body organ Stage 2: hado like, effect driven, by generating a movement which reverts the object to its original state (e.g: Orihime restoring Yammy's arm, Unohana slow her own aging process) Stage 2 kaido is very likely to be a subset of forbidden space/time warping spells, but they are allowed since its blast radius is controlled (a given body) and unlikely to cause a systemic imbalance.
I'll be honest, I wish Kido was used more often. They are such a handy set of spells that I genuinely feel like they should have been better incorporated into battles. Bleach battles are way too much about which side has the greater power overall. I loved Hachi's use of Kido when fighting against Barrigan. Sure, his Kido didn't outright win, but there was such a strategy involved that it was just fun to think about how effective the strategy had been.
Kido is so underrated and the new anime season so overhyped: WHO wants to bet money with me they will not make Tessai, the greatest Kido-Master alive&free do ANYTHINGGG?
Ichigo basically had 1 technique for 80% of bleach. It's really disappointing that he never thought to learn kido as a way to increase his arsenal. Several captain level soul reapers use it.
I don't think ichigo knew about Kido since he's a substiute reaper and all that. However, I do agree that he could've learned it if Kisuke or the vizards bothered to try and teach him during their trainign sessions and even if he couldn't master it or felt that it wasn't his style it would've helped if there was a scene of him saying something like "spellcasting isn't for me espdcially if I have to say some incantation". In my opinion, this would put my mind at rest.
I always thought Momo was showing us how new unique Kido are created, and this is the explanation for unnumbered Hado and Bakudo. She actually combines three Kido, Fushibi, Shakkahou, and Kyokkou. I assume it is the Bakudo which gives it the form which she then manipulates into a net-a strange application but a clever one.
I always loved kido, and I remember how the original dub always made them seem even cooler. Byakuya's voice saying "Rikujōkōrō" is forever burned into my brain.
Kido and the seclusion of the Kido Corps are some of the most fascinating untapped plot threads to me. I'd like to believe part of that seclusion is to uncover the greater mysteries of the universe without the interfetence of Central 46 or others aware of the Original Sin. I have some character ideas for a future Kido Corps captain and lieutenant who would investigate that. My favorite Kido spells are Tenran, and everything Tessai does.
My favorite Kido spell is bakudo No.77. Watching Isane do it was really cool. Plus, the paint she puts on her arms adds a really cool spin to her design(even if it’s temporary).
Yeah but unfortunately hes kinda a bad person in real life im told... Anyway: Kido is os underrated and the new anime season so overhyped: WHO wants to bet money with me they will not make Tessai, the greatest Kido-Master alive&free do ANYTHINGGG?
Bro this is amazing kido is my favorite part of bleach and going in depth like this is awesome I was always hoping someone in the kido corp zanpakto would turn into a wand and rapid cast kido
Strangely, Ichigo, hasn't cast any Kido Spells. This is a huge hole in his training, and should be explored, if not in a serious way, definitely in a funny way has the spells blow up on him. But it could also be a good way to explain and explore the various types of Kido you have mentioned, and show how Kido enhances is already God Like powers. Or, by placing him into an arch, where using his powers would cause so much harm, that he has to use Kido becuase it's less invasive, and more surgical.
17:25 never understood why baragan couldn’t just fly under or over or even from the sides of the wall lol same with the ring of fire the head captain put aizen in
Now, this is a theory on my part. I assume that Gotei 13 must have acknowledged/decorated Ayasegawa Yumichika as one of the heroes of war after the Arrancar arc. Perhaps he decided to become more in touch with his kido side since his kido-like Zanpakutou ability was the reason he won his battle Charlotte Cuulhorne. I make this assumption because he tried to use the true shikai of his Zanpakutou in the open to defend Madarame Ikkaku against the zombified captain, Hitsugaya Toushiro. I may be awfully wrong but this theory works for me.
the reason I think Yumichika used kido against the quincy, even in front of ikaku, was because they're squad 11 guys. the enemy would never expect that from them.
With so many Bakudo, especially the shielding ones and blasting Hado, I have to wonder if they exist merely as stepping stones to each other, only progressing in power as the weilder gets more advanced in the craft, or if each one is crafted to a specific purpose, like each shielding Bakudo originally made to counter a certain type of attack. It would be especially interesting to see things like no.8 being worn as a buckler to compensate for a maimed hand while a Reaper fights with their sword in the other one.
even extremely simple spacial kido seems extremely strong. Hachi being able to instantly transport his arm Orihimes powers were said to be identical to hachis barriers, so hachi could theoretically also use a barrier that reverted time. And I guess Orihime was basically using a forbidden Kido in a sense then. I assume the reason space and time kido being forbidden has to do with the balance of the world. It might be destroying the fabric of reality, since that's kind what all the fighting in bleach was all about in the end. Finding a new soul king to keep the fabric of reality from detereorating.
Been goin threw alot so im late to gettin this out therr but congrats on the marriage you both looked extremely happy an i hope you both have a wonderful life together your content is just truly great to me an your my absolute go to man for my bleach info was extremely happy when the tybw was announced for you to have new content to release would love to see you get in to brave souls more as well just for more to enjoy with your knowledge of everything
Kido is one of my favorite aspects of fighting in Bleach. It’s genuinely fascinating how all the names, numbers, and even how the chants and uses are so variable in a fight. Wouldn’t complain I’d we see expanded fights with more Kido in the TYBW anime.
Its a damn shame ichigo couldn't learn kido , it could have saved him a bunch of times , and now that i think about it , some captains dont use kido whne it would be very useful . I remember when stark went ressureccion and was backing shunsui into a corner and shunsui was about to use his bankai , but shunsui could have just used some kido spells to even the odds . There are times where i think kubo regrets including kido as a power cause it makes some inconsistencies.
I know it wasn't included here, but the anime filler does have some interesting Kido. Urahara uses a few brand new ones in the Reigai arc, and it's entirely possible Kubo contributed there just like how he contributed to the zanpakuto spirit designs for the Zanpakuto Rebellion arc.
Why not use Hadô ? We've got : _(At least) 5 variations of Fireball _Electric finger-gun _Localized Tornado _Up-casted Magic Missile _Litterally a Dark Hole _Lazer cannon that somehow never hits
I hope TYBW anime includes more Kido, i would love if they had Kisuke, Yoruichi and nemu use Kido in there fights, Kisuke cuz hes obviously super knowledgeable on kido, Yoruichi and Nemu because they both fight without swords so itd be nice to see them compliment there had to hand with kido (which i guess Yoruichi does with Shunko). Would also be nice to have some Momo spotlight considering shes considered the best kido practioner among the lieutenants or even add to the fight vs X axis by having nanao help shunsui with Kido, or hell have one of the captains use a forbiden kido vs Gerard to help them defeat him, like maybe slowing time on him so they can destroy the quincy cross.
I love Kido and the concept of it. It really should have been a much bigger part of the story. You could have had captains and lieutenants with weaker Bankai using it to bridge the gap in power with others. Plus the Kido Corp should have been seen much more.
I have a love hate relationship with kido and any soft magic class of system in general. Its so convenient setting up an obsucre way of power mechanic when any character can just pull up random spells to put themselves in advantage and with limited writing explanations needed. Theres literally no excuse why you shouldnt practice kido because of how convenient the spells are regardless of the mastery difficulty. Like you can watch any captain fighting knowing their sword's abilities as foundation but kubo doesnt really need to smarten it up with the application cause if push comes to shove, and when backed against an unruly circumstance outside their main abilities, THERES ALWAYS A KIDO in the back pocket. Thats why I like Kenpachi cause his abilities are established so the things he can/cant do are limited he needs to work around the battlefield to his tempo.
I find this information collection interesting and truly appreciate the video. I personally think that the under-use of it might be tied to how to establish a clearer distinction between each kido might be one of the reason it is a challenge, as well as given that kido tend to be less effective than zanpakuto releases. Another probable reason is that when a kido is shown, theoretically, it supposed to have the incantion planned out, though I doubt this is the case. Is Bakudo 79: Kuyo Shibari missed out? The spell that reinforced both Bakudo 61: Rikujokoro and Bakudo 63: Sajou Sabaku when Urahara traps Aizen for Senju Koten Taiho attack. I can understand it is very forgettable, given it is directly few moments before the infamous Hado 91: Senju Koten Taiho incantation.
