Nas shouldn't won 96 cause reasonable doubt didn't get hot til later

Reasonable Doubt was not enough to beat Nas that year. I personally prefer to It Was Written, but Jay-Z was not making gigantic waves in rap before Biggie's death.

You forget image is a big part of King. Some of these people never ran the city. Post 86 till 90 Rakim, LL and Kane were the Kings

Guru is from Boston. Nas was definitely King of NY in 94 with Illmatic and there's NO WAY that Big L is King of NY over Raekwon with Rae dropping the purple tape.

Great idea for the video, although it'd be better to watch as a complete one, 40+ minutes, from 1979 to 2024

Part 2 coming probably next month! It was more time consuming to make than my usual videos so I had to split it up

Videos perform better when they are shorter. A 40+ min video would be a ton of work for less return for the creator.

Nah, picking KRS over Rakim is crazy. There's no rapper that has had a bigger influence than Rakim on the genre. Before, it was either party raps or conscious stuff. Rakim really made rapping about rapping a core element of the genre. Plus, he took the technicality of it to another level.
@TrillyThough

@DefGoldbloom

Rakim and KRS both went crazy that year! To me, Criminal Minded is definitive New York album in the 80s tho for what it did in repping the Bronx like that.
@LookingForAName...
@LookingForAName... 2 месяца назад
@@DefGoldbloom Yeah, I get that for sure, not trying to minimize KRS' impact, it's just that Paid in Full is basically the blueprint for how NY rappers would rap throughout the next decade, and its influence is still felt to this day. No Rakim means no Golden Era. Every single rapper that took pride in his rapping skills, which is pretty much any rapper from NY in the 90s, was rapping like Rakim to some extent.
@DefGoldbloom

very good video but I would only say 1987 Rakim was king he changed the corse of hip hop so nobody ells makes sense 1995 I would give to Ghostface Killah or prodigy but respect your opionon I live Big L so hey 1996 Nas all day Jay didn't have a I gave you power or if I rulled the world (imagine that) and 1997 I personally go Method Man again but either way good picks

Jay-Z was not king of new york in 1996. That album had buzz, but didn't even stand next to MOST of the albums that came out that year. It's a classic in retrospect. That and giving Big L the crown that year was lacking.

Bro you’re wrong on a few years 90 was definitely cool j, 92 was grand puba all day matter fact he changed the way cats used to dress and started the whole backpack movement. 96 was definitely nas the only other hip hop album to out sell him was the fugee’s. And rakim was definitely the man in 87 smh you can’t be from the east coast talking crazy like that big l was a super dope rapper but he was never the king of ny. That year definitely went to prodigy. My guy shook ones was voted most ny record of all time how could he not….cmon fam you can’t just pick who you like the most. You have to be logical.
@DefGoldbloom

All valid points! Reasonable Doubt is more NY It Was Written, and Criminal Minded is more NY than Paid in full tho and I stand by that!

@@DefGoldbloom that doesn’t make sense tho. That’s like saying we both live in new York and sell pizzas but because my pizza taste more like a New York pizza than yours. I’m the king of New York even tho you sold more pizza than me. That’s crazy and if that’s the case then how can big be the king of ny in 97 with a west coast sounding album 🤷🏾‍♂️. Just say you liked reasonable doubt more than it was written bro and THAT!!!!! is the reason you chose jay or nas.
