This should be called top factions with their legendary lord, not the Lord themselves, for the potential they have is denied by their faction or their faction start.

I think you overthink the difficult starting locations. Tough starting location generally only hurts with the first 20ish turns until you get your immediate surrounding area locked down; after that you're off to the races, and the lords are more on an even playing field at that point
When you have 69 lords to choose from it gets pretty hard to distinguish which ones are truly better or worse than others 🤣. So in relation to THIS GAME I think it’s valid
Just try Morathi and say it again. You have first 20 tough turns and you somehow managed to survive and get decent economy, ally and weakened enemies. Guess what, the next 20 turn the every faction that you meet will declare war at you. The HE, the dumb king, the fat frog, the sisters. The may me in current war with each other, but they hate more and every turn you need to deal with their armies. You can deal with them, but there is no easy time to just flex around.
it’s funny because nakai was the first warhammer 2 campaign i ever completed, i just auto resolved my way to victory with a big ol stack of dino’s by endgame. plus he is really fun to watch in battle
@@yakomo84 There are mods out there that make it so that you can only attack a overlord and not a vassal, and vassals always join in war and peace talks.
5:09 Helman Ghorst was designed around heavy regeneration. When they nerfed and capped how much any unit could heal/regenerate, it broke his design. I remember playing him pre nerf with the zombie mobbing cart AoE tactics and it was a lot of fun!
I was once playing as teclis, conquering my way through Lustria until I got ambushed by a Skaven warlord. I figured no problem, I'll fall back and get into a more defensible position. And then the nuke came in.
Happened to me as bretonia, I was in my way back home from clapping mummy cheeks in the south lands, when ikit himself ambushed louen in estalia I never seen so many dead horses.
I get Skarsnik's placement, but he was always meant to be to the nightmare setting for experienced players. The key to him is his units sneak abilities, but for me, there's nothing more fun than squig armies eating the empire lol
A lot of his rankings at least to me look like they are made by someone who is playing the game with lore friendly units. Like Tecles beeing so low makes 0 sence since you can power him to lvl 20 by turn 30 and at that point he can solo most a.i. armies
Generally overrated. He's incredibly strong, no doubt, pretty much every High Elf LL is, but he's a good combatant, not so much good for your faction or campaign as a whole.
@@StormTG315 Teclis is the most powerful lord, in Warhammer lore. Even Malakith fears him. And Tyrion wouldn't dare get in his way. He's an absolute unit. It's only his starting location that's tough.
@@lonestar6709 Yeah, if we were talking about lore, sure. And like I said, as an individual combatant, Teclis is really strong. Probably the best spellcaster in the game. In actual practical gameplay, he doesn't buff his army by much, and he doesn't give hardly any global buffs to your faction. People see he gets a lot of kills and say he's strong, and in that way he is, but don't look at the bigger picture of what he's providing overall.
If you already have a faction rating video, why spend most of your time talking about faction effects that aren't part of the lord themself in a lord rating video?
@@JamestheKilljoy but this makes a faction ranking video because of the confederate mechanic you can get a "bad" lord in this list and play it to full potential or a find out a "better" one struggles without his faction mechanic like grom the paunch etc.
@@keremsaydere even without his cauldron groms combat abilities are some of the best in the game. The cauldron is the big draw but grom is a top 5 for me.

You’re not really ranking the “best legendary Lords” rather “The best faction mechanics with a solid legendary lord”. Edit: Also while i respect personal opinion, Alith Anar is objectively the most OP faction, either equal to or better than Taurox the brass steamroller.
This is a great list! I feel like you put the Empire and Dwarfs a little too low, though. Especially Karl and Thorgrim, I think both are in the lower top 10. But, that is what makes opinions fun.
Oh and in case anyone wants to know why i would put them higher, the alliances you can make with them make their campaigns way easier than most. Everyone in your faction will bow to you eventually and making alliances with other good races is easy and super useful.
I feel like for a Legendary Lord ranking you really ignored everyones special skill lines and some items they gain. It's for example why people are saying Malagor is so incredibly strong as his unique skills provide a lot of boni to him, his army and the faction he's in (Doesn't have to be his specific one even) like reducing Winds of Magic useage for all spells factionwide. Also why I personally don't fully agree with Skarsnik being so low. Sure he's not a perfect lord but his skills, faction effects and his unique scrap upgrades actually make Night Goblins a serious force. In a recent Skarsnik campaign of mine, Death Juiced Night Gobbos easily racked in hundreds of kills against Dwarfs, other Greenskins and Empire units. Overall still a good list but some lords I feel like have been treated a bit unfairly due to ignoring some really important parts of some lords.
Ive been really excited for this video. Like you, i play campaign almost exclusively (and co-op with friends) and i play on either normal or hard difficulty depending on the race. Looking forward to seeing how your opinions comapre to mine.
Snikish faction has 1 massive advantage all those night/gutter runners you get in your garrisons gain the faction effect of most of their missiles damage counting as AP so it's super easy to defend your settlements
You need to take another look at Volkmar. He now buffs free company militia through the roof in addition to buffing flagellants and empire knights. I just finished a campaign as him and his free company militia army is optimal (or close) for the entire game.
Just because its the first thing he brings up, doesnt mean it is the biggest deciding factor. Plenty of Lords ranked high despite having a hard starting location
Interesting list. Thanks for sharing. Deffo don’t agree with Heinrich. You can get some really strong early plays with high rank, low cost tier 1-2 units and just spam summons and krell. Really powerful leadership breaker 😁
I absolutely disagree with the placement of Skarsnik, gobbos are currently superior to the ork Boyz, and he specialises in them. Fanatic's looms rek all the dwarf units like a hammer strikes the cantaloupe, to quote the classics

Imrik is pretty crazy strong IMO, he's Def one of the strongest lords once you get all his dragon buffs and his armor, dude gets all the standard Legendary lords bonuses+rides a dragon+has unique spells and buffs for every dragon he beats up. When he has the full build you can send him to the front line and he will tank for the entire army, one of his abilities even give him unli regen so he can heal back to full. Surviving is Def pretty hard but once you get the ball rolling with his dragons he crushes everyone pretty easily IMO.
I stoped when you said that Imrik dragon quest fights require high-tier armies (I did it with archers 1 ballista and his starting drake and sorcerer). AND I DON'T CONSIDER MYSELF A VERY GOOD PLAYER. First of all I really liked your video. Second of all, I disagree with Malus's place on this list. I don't think he is as bad as you think, and I will explain why. Starting location : it might seem like a nightmare at first, but his starting location ensures that he always has something to fight, and every battle makes the Dark Elves stronger. each and every battle means more experience for your lord and troops and more slaves for your economy. and battles aren't really a concern for Malus since he always tips the auto-resolve chances in his favor, by himself. plus, the initial starting region, the Dragon Isles, are far easier to defend than Imrik's starting region. assuming you actually sell Hag Graef, of course, which you should. unless you plan on abandoning the Dragon Isles, which defeats the entire purpose of picking Malus. plus, conquering fallen Dawi holds in the badlands is fun. Starting units : starting out with an angry snake lady is great Name : He also doesn't like his own name Allies : Malus has a potential ally in Khalida! Lybaras is relatively close to the Dragon Isles Campaign mechanics : I will not attempt to defend the "Tzarkan's whispers" mechanic. It had potential to be good, it can be pretty fun to get followers that were originally important characters in his books, but it had a botched execution in the sense that the sheer randomness of it just makes it not fun. however, in his campaign, he has two rites that are each a huge boost to his faction. the first one gives him a choice between four heroes that will be sent to him no matter where he is on the map. and those heroes can be pretty powerful if Malekith happens to control a lot of land, which he usually does. it's a super convenient ability and I cannot understate how useful it can be in a pinch. the second one gives him a monster army. I also cannot understate just how useful it is to have access to dragons and hydras in the beginning of the campaign. you can just summon the army, transfer a few useful units to your main army, and then disband the rest. Conclusion : It is for these reasons that I think Malus deserves a higher spot on this list. Preferably higher than Morghur at least 🤣 Cheers man, and keep up the good work :)
I think thorgrim and especially grombrindal should be a bit higher. You can literally take black crag at turn 8. This gets you an early game gold mine, and cripples your main early opponent. From there, you can steamroll the greenskins, and move on to the skaven before they get their op units online. It's one of the fastest and safest expansions that any faction gets.
While I agree with most of your comments i think you put too much emphasize about the starting position and finally it feels like you are more ranking the sub factions than the actual legendary lords. I mean as an example Morathi in 50th, it's hard to justify this if you were really rating the lords. She is a caster, improvings shades and her passive magic effects are just great. My opinion to rank legendary lord would be to put a stronger focus on their specific battle effects, faction effects and unit effects. It's a good video but a bad lord ranking even by considering personnal opinion. It should be titled every sub factions from worst to best.
He only plays campaign and that is what his channel is geared for. Starting positions are very important to whether a campaign will go smoothly or not. Faction buffs are way more important than one lords personal army buffs in campaign
@@JamestheKilljoy Her campaign is challenging to start, but you got a super OP lord to deal with the challenges. Once you figure out the pattern, her campaign is super easy, barely an inconvenience up to VH/VH.
This tier list and comments section REALLY shows the inexperience that this channel and its community has with this game. Lord starting location seems to be the majority of what you consider with your tier list placements which really skews the placement of several powerful lords. Also an FYI for some of the commenters: Performance of AI factions has little relation to how powerful the lord/faction actually is - You should do some research on how AI cheats affect the campaign. If you want to watch some more knowledgeable content creators I'd recommend LegendofTotalWar and Zerkovich.
Taurox is the only lord ive been able to win mortal empires with in warhammer 2. i tried with the otehr beastmen, but i just played so well with the brass bull and felt like i curb stomped enemies left and right.
I stepped away from the game some time ago before the pirate lords, remember hearing about them but not caring enough to come back and check them out, decided to boot it up again a few days ago and was looking forward to seeing alot of the changes and getting a refreshing experience, I knew that some naval stuff had been added so I decided to play the super chad from the north wulfrik curious if with all the naval changes\expansions and factions what the lord with seafang would be like now.......well....its good to see that some things dont change....I guess
2:00 I had a really tough time dealing with Nakai mid game with the high elves. Dude had like 6 engine of the gods stegadons in his army that basically wiped out one army with their magic attacks alone. Not to mention he himself was very difficult to take down. It took 3 armies vs his 1 for me to win. But I had like 50 hrs in the game at the time so I might have just been a noob.
gotta disagree with kemmler, sure he isn't Vlad or Mannfred but with his Strider and Mountain habitable faction mechanic and his newly buffed skill tree he is a ton better with battling in hills trees and can conquer the mountains. There is no place where he cannot inhabit within the old world
I'm a few years late but after finishing Tehenhauins campaign, I would actually consider him the top lizardmen lord and one of the top tier lord overall. So first of, right off the bat he starts out with 10 armor and 15% casualty replenishment for all armies from hes pyramid that it almost effortless to keep going forever. He also starts with replenishment hero, so he can take massive losses and still get hes army back to full strength in a few turns. Second, I'd consider javelin skinks actually much better than saurus, especially on a higher difficulty. With research and hero skills, their ammo will last a lot longer and they can serve as a front like or backup front line behind big dinos. I kept at least 8 of them until the end in Tehenhauins own army until the end. And finally Tehenhauin himself starts out a little meh and cant fight very well before he gets hes top mount but I found upgraded flock of doom incredibly useful early game. It actually does a ton of damage vs everything I fought, like skaven, tomb kings and pirates since most of their early units come in big swarms and aren't well armored.
There are many many flaws but it is his opinion anyways but i will point something... which bothers me like crazy. Total war is not an 4x game it is grand strategy and that's a huge difference. First of all the biggest difference between 4x and grand strategy is in GS you don't have to do all the 4 x's. Some nations/races/lords can make all that 4 but some only focuses some x's. Some nations only needs to survive etc. Horde mechanics, climate mechanics or even marcus wulfhart himself is a proof that this fakin game is not an 4x. In order to win you don't need to capture every region or kill everyone. Make no mistake.
You didnt really rank the lords. Also, i think you over look faction buffs in the skill trees of the lords. Battle prowess really isnt everything, on the contrary. You also count in faction effevts which every lord has when they get confederated into the faction so this list is more of a ranking of the factions than the strength of the actual lords...
There is a difference between a legendary lord being bad and a faction being bad. Skarsnik is really good if you confederate him as any other faction. So the title of this video is kind of miss leading in that sense. Because there is a difference between a Legendary Lord, Faction, and race. This is thus honestly more rating the faction instead of the legendary lord.
I think Cult of Sotek is the strongest Lizardman faction tho. It’s not like I will ever recruit Saurus unit apart from the regiment of renown and blessed version anyway. They perform worst than Skink despite being more expansive. The best thing for this faction tho, is that Tehenhauin start with flock of doom (which got massively buffed last patch), Bastilodon (aoe spell) and can get a very good army ability very early on. I’ve fought 4 armies of clan Pestilen twice in a single turn with the starting army (+ a few skink javelin I recruit along the way) and each battle Tehenhauin would get almost 2000 kills. Other lizardman factions would only be able to do this after they get their aoe magic and in most case would be worse than Tehenhauin.
+1 to your Skarsnik assessment, I just tried playing this campaign (on N/N) and it is straight up broken. Clan Angrund sending a full stack to Karak Angaraz every turn... what 50% upkeep penalty?
i get this is an opinion piece, but this feels more like a faction ranking/start location ranking video. Like, you didn't go at all into their skill lines, yet weirdly focused initial buffs like that's all they got? Did you play all of these? cuz it feels like you played some, then just glanced at the others to get an opinion on them. like if you confederated a faction, you don't get those faction effects? So why are you judging the lord based on those effects and nothing else?
