As a Canadian I got very confused when he called Field hockey - Hockey And then I realized we call ice hockey - hockey and normal hockey - field hockey
Like it 👍 I’m a retired field hockey player and British soldier. A Canadian officer came over on an exchange and had the same confusion, he was also an ice hockey player. Explain the very different rules where it’s actually a non contact sport and using only the flat side of the stick he found very confusing. Watching him adapt was fun too, but he loved it and very thankful he had a go at field hockey.
MCG has the best atmosphere for both Footy and Cricket. The AFL Geelong vs Collingwood Qualifying Final last year was one of the loudest games I've been to
A piece of trivia re the Sydney Oympic Stadium (ANZ)...interesting to note that it has hosted so many football codes alone. It was first used for a showcase day for Rugby League as a test event about a year before the Olympics. The then format seated around 112,000 which was reduce by 30,000 after the Games. Three consecutive game were played with near enough sellout capacity. Rugby Union 2000 Bledisloe Cup game against the All Blacks held just on 110,000 (you guessed it NZ won!). In addition Soccer / Football. AFL, NCAA Football, NFL and I think that's it, seven codes...unless that funny AFL / Irish game was played there. BTW...the unofficial record for a baseball game is held by the MCG where an exhibition game was played between USA selection and Aussies. The attendnace is recorded as the same for the opening ceremony. Baseball was an exhibition sport. I'd hazard a guess that the famous Harvey Brothers (Test cricketer Neil and all) were in the OZ team.
Australian Football has been played at ANZ Stadium quite a bit actually. It was the secondary home ground of the Sydney Swans until 2016. They recently had a one-off Sydney Derby there at the start of this year too. The AFL siren at ANZ/Accor Stadium is the best one in the AFL in my opinion
Why is Handball not in this list?! It is a major sport in Europe and there are big stadiums. The biggest Handball stadium has about 25k seats, but there are also stadiums with up to 50k seats where handball is being played in. For example in Düsseldorf, Germany the european Championship is going to be held there.
It would be interesting if every sport had a stadium 😅 I want to see the ULTIMATE ping pong stadium or THE ULTIMATE corn hole stadium. Hell even an ultimate marathon stadium that has to stretch miles to allow runners to do the marathon 😅 your intro has got me thinking of these new stadiums
I did a double-take when I saw Dodger Stadium was the largest baseball stadium - and yet - it's true! It certainly didn't USED to be. Cleveland had a stadium that held 78,000... There were a handful that were larger than Dodger Stadium with 60,000+... but smaller seems to be the trend these days.
A lot of multipurpose stadia did have more seating than Dodger Stadium, but as those venues were torn down in favor of sport-specific stadia, they continued to build football stadia with 60,000+ seats, but most baseball parks were limited to 45,000 or less.
I was surprised to not see the MCG but since the biggest stadium is a new stadium in a highly populated country I'm not too surprised (for cricket, not AFL)
If this is going by seating capacity then yes The Indianapolis Motor Speedway would be the largest. But if you are going by sheer size of the venue the Nurburgring in Germany would be the largest by a long shot at just over 16 miles long
So, on your Bell Center joke In Denver, Colorado, the Avalanche, Nuggets, and Mammoth all play in the Ball Arena (formerly the Pepsi Center). Have fun with that however you wish!
"I love watching international Rugby at Twickenham, there's something special about that stadium". I was expecting to see a picture of the Wallabies winning the 1991 Rugby World Cup there. Aside from Stadium Australia and Dodger Stadium, it's the only one on this list that I've been to. Probably too late now.
Ski Jumpers don't do tricks? Sure they do. The most popular trick among ski jumpers they do is one called "not slamming your face into the ground at 80 miles an hour and dying." However when the fans where included in the polling data, that trick fell in the rankings to second.
There was actually 150000 people attenting the skijumping at Holmenkollen at 1952 olympics, which at that time must have been close to all of Norways population.
It did start out as a cricket only venue. But it has since become the home of AFL. It wouldn't be anywhere near as big if it was just for cricket. And more spectators watch AFL than cricket at the venue annually. In fact the same can be said for all of Australia's major cricket grounds.
Fun fact about Twickenham... its being pruposed as the home for a NFL team based in London and hosts the anual London Bowl games the Jaguars play... so you can also count it as a stadium for American Football
Technically, Michigan's "Big House" is also the biggest ice hockey arena, as they regularly host the winter classic, wherein an outdoor hockey game pits UM against Minnesota or Wisconsin...
Well if we’re going in that direction then Bristol Motor Speedway is the biggest football stadium at 153,000 because they held a college football game there one time
Suggestions Great Rivalry Stadiums Anfield / Old Trafford Bernabeu / Camp Nou Fenway / Yankee Celtic Park / Ibrox La Bombonera / River Plate MCG / MCG (every AFL rivalry 😂) The big house / the horseshoe The I-Pro / City Ground ( super important that one ! etc etc
the MCG is huge, with the ANZAC round, Big Freeze round, and the Grand Final all attracting HUGE crowds, the atmosphere for a huge game is always electric as about 100,000 people can fit in the MCG, which is a LOT. the one exception which happened in 2020 was covid so the grand final was played in The Gabba up in Queensland, was not a great grand final if i'm honest. But the MCG also holds a lot of history, being one of the first ovals used in the AFL, way back in the mid-late 1800s. and in the late 1990s, the MCG scoreboard caught fire. So the MCG has seen a lot of history in its lifetime, and is without a doubt going to keep hosting AFL grand finals forever
Hey Bud MCG in Melbourne Australia is rarely used for Football. MCG full form is Melbourne Cricket Ground and was the largest cricket stadium until 2019.
@@avgbloke5099 where did you get that stat from? Historically, well maybe. But these days the MCG holds 1-3 AFL matches a week over 6 months, as well as several finals. It would host about 6 matches for the national team (Test/ODI/t20) and then a smattering of Big Bash League games. Definitely more Aussie Rules football than cricket.
Great and fun video with a solid sense of humor. You forgot the largest Ice skating venue in Ottawa but the one in a shopping mall in Dallas or the one in the airport in Seoul are just cool, I have been to all 3 somehow.
Olympic stadiums that have never hosted an Olympics ? What would a big World Cup ( Footie or Egg chasing ) look like by country ? ie best 10/12 stadiums taking into account max number per city ( I guess London could host both Cups at the same time without much bother )
Curling only rinks usually hold only a few thousand, but The Brier and Scott Tournament of Hearts (men's and women's national championships in Canada) are played in hockey arenas, with crowds of 10,000+ being common.
Cheesus, I'm right into the new technology for the rounding of the cheese blocks (gotta be a name for that) in the maturation process....stiff cheddar.
Talladaga is bigger than Indy. I can't remember the name of it but the biggest track in the world is in Germany. I'm pretty sure thing is like 30 miles long.
The cheese rolling championships are held every year on April 1st. Talladega Baby! Shake and bake. 2.66 miles of 36° of banking. That’s a steep financial center.
Rugby has been played at 5 of these stadiums MCG,Croke park,Stadium Australia,Twickenham and Camp Nou the All Blacks v Australia test in 2000 at Stadium Australia had 110,000 in attendance and Camp Nou dispite being a football stadium got 100,000 in attendance for the French club rugby final in 2016.
'All blacks v Australia Test in 2000' Was that a cricket match? Man idk as you said test I am confused because I googled it and I saw it was a rugby match
I don't think E-sport should've been included, just because you can proably make that in any arena aslong as it has a roof and people can work with electricity
I don’t mean to sound like any Karen here, but College American Football and American Football are 2 different sports. It may not seem like it to people outside the USA but there are many different rules that come with both. Either way I loved this vid and it was very entertaining to see all these unique stadiums
Depends how you see it. It IS the longest race track on earth (not counting Isle of Man since its run on public roads) but 95% of the circuit is in the Eiffel mountains with sparse campgrounds. The only part that would count as a "stadium" is the GP track where theres grandstands, and that is way smaller. The 2nd biggest racing "stadium" by definition would be NASCAR's Bristol Motor Speedway with 170,000 seats
